WRITTEN FOR PARKLAND STUDENTS BY PARKLAND STUDENTS! SGA: Events, Feedback, and News from Meetings. General School News By: Taian Chen Trust me, it s a good meeting. If it wasn t I d be mourning. The Student Government Association (SGA) at Parkland MS is a group that meets on Tuesdays, to organize projects, events, and sometimes goes to meetings with staff in the morning, and meetings with other SGA groups. You may know this group from the SGA Dance, back in October. They are currently looking into a new community project, some suggestions include maybe a neighborhood library, or a school-wide art project, so stay tuned for more information! One thing that has been considered for the SGA to work on, is the students submitting ideas for SGA. There have been multiple ideas where to put the dropbox, and what the dropbox will be, so keep an eye out for that. Some ideas include a folder mounted near the library entrance, or maybe in the main hall. There has also been a consideration to drop the whole idea altogether, since there s no guarantee that anyone will actually submit ideas, and the SGA themselves is able to generate 3-4 ideas of their minds immediately. Another thing that is approaching is a meeting, where a couple members head off to another school, meeting with other organizations. Also, SGA will now have morning meeting with staff, to review ideas, and to get them approved, more efficiently. What do you think? Should there be a submissions box or a Google Form? Time will tell.!1

2 DECEMBER-JANUARY EDITION VOLUME 1 Don t miss out on the deadly duel between the Parkland Panthers and the Farquhar Roadrunners School Sports By: Ayush Bhavsar Think about the fight between Logan Paul and KSI all over again. Think about the war between PewdiePie and T-Series. Who would win in a 1 v 1 Ninja or Tfue. The same fight will be happening between the Parkland Panthers and The Farquhar Roadrunners. The Parkland Panthers and the Farquhar Road Runners will fight to death for victory. They will fight to show of their skills and prove themselves supreme to each other. This match is scheduled to be a week after winter break on the 8th of January get ready to support the Panthers. Remember basketball Players while your out there take the advice of great players. I would tell players to relax and never think about what s at stake. Just Think about the basketball game. If your going to start to think about who is going to win the championship you lost your focus. Michael Jordan The Wonderful Washington Wizards Local Sports By: Ian Iheme The Washington Wizards are bouncing back from their poor start and have a standing of #9 in the east. Putting their differences aside, they have won their last 3 games. With Scott Brooks making a few minor tweaks to the lineup, players like Bradley Beal, John Wall, Kelly Oubre Jr. and others are putting in work. By the way they are going, they are on the right track to make the playoffs. There was once a point where the Wizards we re 5-11 entering late November. Most are saying that the Wizards should just blow the whole team up and everybody needs out of there, specifically John Wall with the way he has been damaging the team s chemistry with cursing out head coach Scott Brooks. But for the past three games there haven t really been any issues so far and they seem to be clicking with each other better and better proving the critics wrong. 3 Soccer games/champions League/LaLiga/Premier League/ Bundesliga/MLS General Sports By: Matthew Kuwik There are new seasons of sports going on now, the NBA, LaLiga, NFL, etc. but we re talking about the most popular sport in the globe, futball. The teams are changing and the new seasons are starting, Cristiano Ronaldo just got transferred to Juventus for $130 million! And it s the end of the World Cup and France won it for the second time. And this year they just made the new game on PS4 and Xbox, FIFA 19. So far on the Premier League, Manchester City is first place just like last year and are looking like they will win the next future games. But Manchester United is TRASH this year! Last year they made it to second place but now they went all the way down to seventh! Liverpool looks good in second place, but Chelsea went down to Tottenham! And Tottenham isn t even that good! They re in third place putting Chelsea in fifth, Arsenal in Sixth, and so on. In LaLiga it s a sad time for Real Madrid winning the Champions League three times in a row. Real Madrid is sixth place, while Sevilla is first place and FC Barcelona is second place, they lost to Roma which is sad because Real Madrid beat them two nil. Atletico Madrid is third place, they look like they are doing very well this year, they have a good team in good structure. Serie A, Aas As always Juventus is up in first place, they have a great team they almost look unbeatable with the number 7 Cristiano Ronaldo. We have Napoli in the second place, and so on. The players for these teams like Messi or Ronaldo are the best in the world, and are having a great season. Neymar Jr is doing pretty good, but still he keeps trying to get fouls for his team by facking. Cristiano Ronaldo is getting older but he s still doing what he s best at. Lionel Messi is doing pretty good too, he can do well in free kicks and stuff. Eden Hazard is having a great season, he has one of the most goals in the Premier League, and dribbles the ball very well. Harry Kane is not playing as good as some people but he has a great amount of goals. Mohamed Salah is not doing what he did last year, he s not as good as he used to be, but Kylian Mbappe, even as a 19 year old he is impressing a lot of people and is doing a great job for his team.!3

4 Elon Musk s mission to fly to Mars Science, Technology, and Gaming By: Neil Parikh Have you ever seen anybody go to the planet Mars? No you probably have not. That is about to change. We are about to do the impossible. No human specie in our Earth in the world has ever touched the surface of this big immense planet. The rocket that will be landing on Mars surface is BFR. It will enter the Mars atmosphere at 7.5 kilometers per second and decelerate aerodynamically. The vehicle s heat shield is designed to withstand multiple entries, but given that the vehicle is coming into the Mars atmosphere so hot, we still expect to see some ablation of the heat shield. Elon Musk who is traveling to Mars says, You want to wake up in the morning and think the future is going to be great - and that's what being a spacefaring civilization is all about. It's about believing in the future and thinking that the future will be better than the past. And I can't think of anything more exciting than going out there and being among the stars." We are going to Mars to complete such an achievement that has never happened before. We will be traveling to mars by a rocket. FIFA 19 is Released Science, Technology, and Gaming By: Zachary Kuwik You may not know what the FIFA the game is, but it is about soccer and the champions league. This is a great chance to get to know new soccer players and other cool things about soccer in general. EA sports is the group that made this game all together, not including frostbite the one who helped out on making this. This game has a lot of optional modes you can play in, like tournament mode. That is when you choose a team to play as and try to win whatever league you can or the one you chose. Then, there is career mode when you make a player play for a certain team. When you do this, you are able to buy other players to come to your team and you can sell other players to other teams. Another mode is the journey, when you the only options to choose between are Danny Williams,Kim Hunter, and Alex Hunter ( he is the best one totally choose him!!). In this mode you play for the champions league for Alex and Danny and try to win the cup, because that would be awesome!. If you pick Kim Hunter you play the women's world cup and hopefully win. Then there is the ultimate team mode when you open FIFA packs to get new players and try to get the highest rate (score) possible to win. There is always kick off and you can play against friends or the computer to win. In this new game you play the champions league and play all the rounds to win the league. This game came out on September 28, They made this game to be better than the last and to make it more exciting and detailed than the last one. Final comment : GET THIS GAME IT LOOKS GREAT!!!!4

5 DECEMBER-JANUARY EDITION VOLUME 1 Fortnite: What s coming up on season 7 Science, Technology and Gaming By: Kethan Kadimi and David Kpetevi How Fortnite works is that you have to get guns and eliminate opponents to get a victory royale. You would face 99 opponents. They are lots of different types of weapons. You can get wood, brick, and metal to build and use it to your advantage. Lots of updates happen and new weapons, events or skins will be added. New skins that came in Fortnite season 7 is Lynx, Zenith, SGT. Winter, Powder, Trog, Onesie, and the ice king... The battle pass they would be 100 tiers. The first tier would be two skins and one of the skins can be upgraded. Also since season 7 on December, the theme for this season would be Christmas. The last season was Halloween. Some people say that they see an iceberg or something else so I am pretty sure that our map will be covered in snow. Samsung or iphone? 15 Real answers from Real PMMS students. Opinion and Editorial/Science-Technology By: Lucy Oler Samsungs and iphones have been very popular for the past years, and almost everyone you ask will have know what they are, but also have a preference. iphones are a part of the company, Apple, which makes phones, computers,tvs, watches, tablets, typewriters, and other technical devices. Apple is a very successful company, and is the 9th richest company in the world. Samsung is it s own company, which makes phones, TVs, cameras, ovens, computers, and even refrigerators. Many people have become famous from reviewing technology like these. This includes you tubers ijustine with 5.6M subscribers, and Austin Evans with 3.5M subscribers. The results are in, the PMMS students have voted. Judging by how many people voted for each, and their reasoning, iphone won with 10 votes, and Samsung lost with 5 votes. Let s start with iphones. One student said iphone has lots of new developments coming fast, but the Samsung Note 9 has been catching on fire, and other problems. Others said: - iphone actually tries to come out with new apps by the company, and it s easier to use and understand. - iphones have much better picture quality than Samsung phones. - iphones has a better platform of games, and other apps. - iphones have more updates, but Samsung just wants you to buy their phones because they re cheap. - iphones have are better quality, and Apple is very successful. - iphones have easily understandable settings, unlike Samsung. - Samsung camera quality is bad, and iphones are easier to use. - iphones screens are better, and apples are healthy. - For iphone, you can use your fingerprint to unlock things, Samsung can t.!5

6 Now, onto the Samsung arguments. One student said: Note 9 has a galaxy skin for Fortnite, a special edition skin for ONLY Samsung users. Others said: - The Galaxy Note 9 has a long lasting battery, compared to iphones. - Samsungs have longer battery than iphones. - Recently, iphones have been getting HUGE, and don t even seem like phones anymore. Also, iphones shatter from just one drop so easily. And, lastly, Samsungs charge faster. Overall, I also think iphones are a huge deal in our society, and deserve to be around for a long time.
