5 Seven changes had to be made to the A side, due to provincial and umpiring commitments over the long weekend. It was always going to be a tough ask against the senior Langley s first side and it was Langley who opened the scoring with a rebound off the Rondebosch defence. Rondebosch played well in patches but the lack of structure, after only one practice together, began to tell, and the lack of work rate and defensive structure in the midfield was exploited by Langley with another three well worked goals. Rondebosch scored a consolation goal by Zubayer Hamza but Langley ran out deserved winners by 4 goals to 1. Wynberg are up next and the boys will play with the pride and defensive plan that has characterised the season thus far. A good week of practices is ahead. Mr. Lloyd Nel (Coach) U16A v Westerford (Knock Out) This was a knock-out match and Rondebosch did enough to win comfortably. A tap in goal by Zubayer Hamza in the first few minutes of the match set the Bosch side for an easy victory. Rondebosch lost their way a bit in their intensity but with seven changes to the side this was always going to be difficult to maintain structure. Westerford scored a consolation goal in the last five minutes but Rondebosch came back to settle the game in the last minute. The match was an opportunity to give some B team players a bit more exposure to the A side. Mr. Lloyd Nel (Coach) U16B v Khayalitsha U16B vs. Khayelitsha A Saturday, 7 August Venue: Khayelitsha Grass Field With memories of our game against Langa still fresh in our minds, we started off quite nervous about playing on grass. The defence had trouble with clearing the ball once it arrived in our D and eventually Khayelitsha scored 2 goals and half time came with us 2 goals down. Those goals woke everyone on our team up for the second half. We started playing our normal game and worked with our opportunities. The ball hardly found our D and we stayed in the Khayelitsha half for the majority of the second half. Eventually Justin scored our first goal. We unfortunately couldn t score again and the game ended with a loss. Goal scorer: Justin Kraak Score: 1-2 loss Caelan Curry 5
6 U16B v Langley School (UK) U16B vs. Langley Park Boys School (UK) Monday, 9 August Venue: WPCC The game started off fairly equal with both teams getting a touch on the ball. Our defence played very well by keeping a lot of shots out of the goals. Riaz opened the scoring in our favour with an excellent goal from a cross by Justin fairly early in the match. LPBS started pushing up more often and scored a goal. We didn t stop fighting and this was proved by Justin s goal seconds before half time which put us into the lead once again - the half time score was 2-1 in our favour. We continued with our good game in the second half and Justin scored another goal which seemed to trigger LPBS to start playing harder. They kept the ball in our half for long periods. Defence played well to protect our goal when LPBS got into our D. We eventually received a short corner, in which LPBS scored from a drag flick. After this goal our defence upped their game and denied any more goals to LPBS. We received another short corner as the final whistle blew which caused a few nervous minutes - LBPS tried another drag flick but our strong defence kept the ball out of the goal to bring victory our way. Goal scorers: Justin Kraak Riaz Saider Score: 3-2 win Caelan Curry U16C v SACS Saturday 31 st July 2010 On an early and very cold Saturday morning, the U16C team went to SACS for their return match against one of their arch rivals. The match started unfortunately badly when the defence was caught napping in the first few minutes as they conceded an easy goal. They eventually responded with some constructive play and were rewarded with a very good field goal. Bosch kept on the pressure for most of the match with no luck and they nearly gave away goals as SACS were very quick on counter-attack. When it seemed that a draw would have been a fairly fair result, an unfortunate high bounce of the ball in the D made it available for one of the SACS boys to push it in. Another undeserved loss, although the boys showed some constructive moves. As mentioned before, it seems that they can score goals, but they seem to give away too many easy ones. Mauro Saporetti (parent) U16C v Rhodes Tuesday 3 rd August
7 Our boys are very lucky to be able to practice and play mostly on Astro. Recently they had to play Paarl Boys High on grass at Stellenbosch and that should have given them some idea of what to expect when they traveled to Rhodes school. What they will have learnt mostly from this outing is that many of the schools are not as privileged as our boys. The U16C team tried hard to adapt to a very uneven grass field and to an opposition who was not intimidated by our better players. The score was eventually 3-0, due to some constructive (and at time very difficult) play which must have given the boys something to build on. The last few matches will be very difficult against the rest of their arch rival schools as they have already lost to SACS. Wynberg and Bishops will test them and hopefully they can avenge some recent defeats. Mauro Saporetti (parent) U16D v Bye U16E v Fairbairn College U14A v D F Malan (Knock Out) Knock out tournament RBHS U14A vs. DF Milan Score 8-2 win The first couple minutes, we were asleep and let through a soft goal. We started to get a lot more into the game after that but could not convert. After 20 minutes we managed to score a goal through Tayo and soon after another one. We went into the break with a 2-1 lead. We had another slow start for about 5 minutes in the second half, but then seemed to find our ground and started scoring goals. We were leading 6-1 with about 8 minutes to go they scored another soft goal which woke us up even more, because after that we scored 2 more goals to give as an 8-2 win and put us into the knock out semi-final. Well Done boys!!!! Matthew Swart (U14A Captain) U14A v Langley School (UK) RBHS U14A vs. Langley (UK) Score: 10-2 Win We had another slow start when Langley scored in the first 5 minutes through 7
8 a short corner but we responded to that very quickly, also through a short corner which Chad scored off. Another 3 brilliant goals were added by Tayo and 1 easy one by me. We went into the break with a 5-1 lead after an excellent first half by the boys. In the second half Tayo scored 2 goals but then got a yellow card for a bad tackle, a minute later James got a yellow card for a dangerous stop above the head. This did not slow us down we pushed hard and I scored a goal. After James and Tayo were back on the field we started to find our ground again but unfortunately Daniel got a green card for a dangerous tackle. With about 10 minutes to go they were awarded a short corner which they scored off, this was a very lucky goal as for Nathan made a brilliant save but it bounced off the post into their player and into the goals. Soon after we were awarded a short corner which we messed up but Marc got the ball and hit it into the D and then Chad deflected it and the keeper jumped out the way giving us the opportunity to score. Daniel made up for his Green card by scoring a goal in the last couple of minutes. In my opinion it was not that our opponents were bad, they played a good game, it was just that we played excellent game and managed to capitalise on our opportunities. An excellent game we can really be proud of. Well Done boys!!!
