Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage on FOX, FOX Deportes and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish on TuneIn. Despite a all-time record after a Leg 1 loss, New York has responded well after a loss in the regular season this year. The Red Bulls are following a loss in New York is just one of two teams in MLS without back-to-back losses with the other being Atlanta United FC. New York responded with a three-goal performance in five of the seven games following a loss. Down 1-0 on aggregate, New York will need to win by at least two goals to win in regulation at Red Bull Arena. The Red Bulls recorded a two-plus goal win in eight of their 17 home league matches, which includes shutouts in seven of the eight two-plus goal victories. At 26, Aaron Long has had quite the season to remember, being named an MLS All-Star, earning his first call-up and start for the USMNT and now being honored as the league s best defender, as voted by the media, all MLS players and technical staffs. In his second full season, Long started 31 of the 34 league matches, anchoring a Red Bulls defense that recorded 14 shutouts and allowed a league-low 33 goals in 34 games in MLS. Offensively, he tallied career-bests in both goals (3) and assists (2). The Oak Hills, California, native was not only named to his first MLS All-Star match, but started and played a game-high 62 minutes to help the MLS All-Stars tie Italian-side Juventus, 1-1. If New York were to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Red Bulls would face the winner of Atlanta United/NYCFC. The two legs of the conference final is set for Nov. 25 and Nov. 29 with the Red Bulls hosting the second leg as the top seed in the East. # Pos. Higuain subbed on at halftime after playing in 120 minutes in Crew SC s Knockout Round win against D.C. United. 16 minutes later he played a deft backheel to a streaking Gyasi Zardes, who was able finish past RBNY goalkeeper Luis Robles. The assist added to Higuain s production in this year s postseason, after he scored both goals against United. Neither team created many chances at MAPFRE Stadium, as they combined for just five shots on target. RBNY s best chance came in the dying moments, as Kaku found Bradley Wright-Phillips over the Crew SC defense. The Englishman flicked a header to the back post but Zack Steffen was able to get down with his left hand and prevent the equalizer. In his second full season, Long started 31 of the 34 league matches, anchoring a Red Bulls defense that recorded 14 shutouts and allowed a league-low 33 goals in 34 games in MLS. Offensively, he tallied career-bests in both goals (3) and assists (2). The Oak Hills, California, native was not only named to his first MLS All-Star match, but started and played a gamehigh 62 minutes to help the MLS All-Stars tie Italian-side Juventus, 1-1. For country, Long earned his first senior cap in October s 1-1 draw against Peru, playing a full 90 minutes as part of a backline that allowed just three shots on goal. He received his first national team call at any level for the September camp and friendlies against Brazil and Mexico, and yesterday was named to the November roster for matches against England and Italy. Long joined the Red Bulls organization ahead of the 2016 season, where he was converted from midfielder to center back after signing with the NYRB II, the club s USL affiliate. FIRST BLOOD The Red Bulls have struck first in 30 of their 43 matches this season and are when scoring first. New York has trailed for just 664 of the 3,870 total minutes of competitive action in New York was when scoring first in IRONCLAD DEFENSE Red Bulls defense has been quite good this season, as they led the league in goals-against average (0.97) and shutouts (15). A large part of that has been the goalkeeping and backline that has stifled the opposition s attack. Captain Luis Robles ranks among the league s best in multiple categories, ranking at the top in clean sheets (14), wins (21) and goals-against average (0.97) and fourth in save percentage (73.0%). MLS s Ironman has tallied a shutout in six of the last nine matches. His 63 career clean sheets places him in sole posession for ninth all-time in league history. Alongside Robles, Ryan Meara has been the perfect compliment for spot starts in league play or playing in other major competitions such as the U.S. Open Cup. While Robles was out due to injury this season, Meara made four starts, three in league play and one in Open Cup. During that stretch, Meara is with a 0.75 goals-against average and two clean sheets. CLOSING OUT MATCHES New York s unfortunate narrative in 2016 was that the team was unable to hold onto a lead or allow the opposition to take points away. New York has changed that narrative the last two seasons. New York is when leading or tied at the 75th minute mark and has trailed for just 664 of the 3,870 total minutes. In 2017, New York was when leading or tied at the 75th minute mark. (21 MLS / 3 Open Cup/1 Playoff) New York was 7-2 in one-goal matches, including 4-0 at Red Bull Arena. head coach on July 6, following Jesse Marsch s departure to Europe. Armas coached his first ever MLS match as a head coach and second match overall as the Red Bulls manager against NYCFC on July 8. Before Sunday, July 8 s MLS match versus NY- CFC, Armas led the Red Bulls to a 1-0 victory over New York City in the 2017 U.S. Open Cup Fourth Round. Armas earned his first career MLS win as a head coach against Sporting Kansas City on July 14 at Red Bull Arena. Since his debut, Armas led the Red Bulls to a record, including five-straight wins to end the regular season and capture the franchise s third Supporters Shield. Armas became the third head coach in club history to lead the Red Bulls to a Supporters Shield in his first season. #REDTOGETHER New York unveiled at the beginning of the season their newest jersey, which was all red. The Red Kit was created in collaboration with adidas to reflect the identity of the club and its supporters. The new Bold Red kit was engineered specifically for the New York Red Bulls by adidas. The stripes and square mesh panels run throughout the fabric of the kit as nods to the buildings and bridges of the city. A drop-hem fit can style on the field and the street. In 24 league matches that New York has worn the Red jersey, the Red Bulls are and have outscored their opponents, 43-20, when they wear the jersey. RED, WHITE, and BLUE Defender Aaron Long and midfielder Tyler Adams, have been named to the U.S. Men s National Team roster for a pair of November friendlies against England and Italy. Long, who was signed from the Red Bulls USL team and Adams, a Homegrown Player, are enjoying standout 2018 seasons that include several USMNT call ups as well as MLS All-Star nods. Adams earned his first USMNT cap last November in a friendly against Portugal, and has been called into every USMNT camp since. He was held out of October camp due to injury. Adams scored his first senior international goal in his last cap, a 2-0 win over Mexico on September 11. Long, 26, earned his first senior cap in October s 1-1 draw against Peru, playing a full 90 minutes as part of a backline that allowed just three shots on goal. He received his first national team call at any level for the September camp and friendlies against Brazil and Mexico. CONSISTENCY IS KEY Following New York s 1-0 win over D.C.
