1 Football Report Congratulations to Nick Stevens (Year 9) who has been selected in the final squad of 24 players to represent Victoria in the U/15 National Championships to be played in Perth later this term. It is an outstanding achievement and underlines Nick s potential in the game. Good luck mate Junior Football Ballarat Grammar Defeated SPC Green Goal Kickers: Keegan Chapman, Adam Azzopardi, Declyn McGuigan, Deegan Willingham Best Players: Sam Butler, Adam Azzopardi, Paddy Labbett, Declyn McGuigan, Brodie Ward The round 2 game Ballarat Grammar versus SPC Green was expected to be a tight tussle. However, Ballarat Grammar ended up running out easy winners by almost five goals. The bigger bodies of Grammar took their toll on our team, who showed glimpses of good form in the first half. The third quarter saw the Grammar players place enormous pressure on our back half who held up well considering the pressure they were under. Ethan Horsburgh and Keegan Chapman repelled many entries in our defence but when we went forward, we fell down across the half forward line where Grammar defenders ran the ball out easily without much pressure. Brodie Ward attempted to give our forwards a chance with his elite kicking skills. Sam Butler and Adam Azzopardi worked tirelessly around the ground to try and help their teammates gain control of the match. In the end Grammar proved too strong for our team. 2 SPC Green went down to Ballarat Clarendon College by nineteen points in a very even contest. Played in wonderful conditions on the newly laid, Ballarat and Clarendon College s surface, College kicked four goals to nil in the final term to steal the game. It was a disappointing finish to the game after the we played one of our best quarters of the season in the third term. We kicked three goals to two but ultimately couldn t keep the momentum and fell away in the last quarter. However, we are starting to play some really good quality football. When we use the ball well and move through the field, it gives us that opportunity to score and we did that in the third quarter. We failed to finish off strongly after leading at three quarter time for the second week in a row. It was a good effort across the whole game, we had a real focus on not ever giving up, even though we did not score in the last quarter but it shows we are learning, but again we ve got to understand it s a four quarter game not just three and a bit. Our endeavour, hunt and attack were all there just our decision making let us down but there was plenty of positives. There was plenty of positives to take from today s game for SPC Green. Adam Azzopardi had a terrific game playing midfield and forward, Sam Butler continued to impress and Jesse Cairns and Darcy Emonson battled impressively in a hard fought out game. Last week the Nunan lads visited Damascus and experienced a 2- point defeat in what was a most exciting game. Played in fantastic spirit, the lead changed numerous times throughout the game with players from both teams displaying wonderful endeavor and fine skills. Having just 16 players available, the teamwork and persistent running shown by our Nunan boys was fantastic. We were charging through half forward as the umpire called time. 3 The Nunan boys again displayed terrific endeavor, teamwork and skill in this game against High School. Played on the Main Oval, the game was played in fine spirit and the High School team should be commended on their efforts. SPC Gold Junior Coach Ballarat Grammar Defeated SPC White Goal Kickers: Flynn Petting 3, Ethan Postlewaite 1, Flynn Pettit, Taylor Bell 1, Will Maher 1 Best Players: Joshua Quinlan, Will Preston, Flynn Pettit With numerous new players stepping up for SPC White this week, it was always going to be a difficult task but the boys responded well with a hard fought first quarter. Going down to three early goals was always going to be challenging to respond to but credit to our forwards who produced four goals in the second term. It was a game to be won from the middle, with both sides finding it hard to take advantage of the midfield. Will Preston was productive in the ruck, finding the footy as a dominant midfielder. Josh Quindanning produced a fantastic personal performance winning multiple possessions across half back before dominating the midfield in the second half. The all-important third quarter let us down with Ballarat Grammar kicking ahead to a 16-point lead. The boys tried hard in the last to overturn the result but ultimately Ballarat Grammar played a four quarter game. Well done to Flynn Petting who kicked 3 goals. Matt Miller SPC White Junior Coach Intermediate Football SPC Blue Defeated BCC Goal Kickers: Connor Palmer 3 Best Players: Dane Kolek, Brock Noble, Siddarth Rajesh, Will Clark, Cooper Bath After giving College a 3 goal head start our team recovered by kicking the next 7 goals. Solid attack on the ball, quick hands and effective ball movement resulted in many scoring

4 opportunities. Dane Kolek was prominent in the ruck providing plenty of drive and presence in contests. Brock Noble, Sidd Rajesh and Will Clark were prominent ball getters while Cooper Bath was effective in the packs. Our full forward Connor Palmer scored 3 goals while the remainder of the goals came from a variety of goal kickers. Mr Michael Weadon SPC Blue Intermediate Coach Senior Football SPC Blue Defeated SPC Green Goals Kickers: SPC Blue: Richy Dell 3, Bailey Medwell, Isaac Quick 2, Dylan Davies, Ethan McMasters, Max Daunt 1 Goal Kickers: SPC Green: Jack Irvin 3, Callum Bawden 2, Mitch Jarvis, Angus McKinna, Harry Twaits 1 Best Players Blue: Isaac Quick, Richy Dell, Bailey Medwell, Doohan Pettit Best Players Green: Angus McKinna, Robbie Emerson-Jones, Jack Irvin, Sam Bowen Tonight on the main oval the two senior 2 nd XVIII sides went at it on a crisp Ballarat night. For the first match of the year it was all SPC Green early on with three goals to one in the first quarter after dominating possession. Angus McKinna stamped his authority on the match early assisted by Robbie Emerson-Jones through the midfield. The 2 nd quarter was much more even as Isaac Quick asserted himself around the ground. Going into the last quarter SPC Green held a 3 goal lead and were looking in control but some magic from Richy Dell down forward and a great quarter from Bailey Medwell saw the Blue side get in front with a couple of minutes to go, they were able to hold on and snatch victory this time around. Well done boys. Jarrett Giampaolo SPC Green 2 nd XVIII Coach SPC Green Defeated Ballarat Grammar Best Players Green: Jack Irvin, Sam Bowen, Ben Dunwoodie, Robbie Emerson-Jones Goals SPC Green: Jack Irvin 3, Will Green, A McKinna, Harry Twaits, Sam Bowen 1 Ballarat Grammar was the opponent tonight for SPC Blue, and with only 18 players meaning no rotations it was going to be an interesting encounter. The first quarter was fast paced and SPC was able to pile on 3 quick goals through some handy play from Jack Irvin and the midfield brigade of Angus McKinna and Robbie Emerson-Jones. Going into quarter time with a handy 18-point lead proved to be very important later on in the game as Grammar was able to work

5 their way back into the game with some slick movement through the middle of the ground. SPC was able to work hard in the last quarter to hold the Grammar boys off and record a 9-point win. Well done boys. Jarrett Giampaolo SPC Green 2 nd XVIII Coach SPC Blue Defeated Phoenix College Goal Kickers: James Richardson 4, Fletcher Loader 2, Ethan Lawler 2, Zac Wilson, Lachlan Ross, Ethan McMasters, Ryan Cox, Sam Pilgrim Best Players: Ethan Lawler, Isaac Quick, James Richardson, Lou White, Ethan McMasters, Fletcher Loader SPC Blue convincingly won their second round match against Phoenix College at SPC on the Main Oval by 91 points. SPC Blue had an inaccurate start kicking 2 goals 7 behinds in the first quarter. At quarter time the players had an aim of scoring 6 goals for the 2nd quarter. The side achieved this and extended their lead to 58 points at half time. In the second half SPC Blue were inaccurate again kicking 4 goals 9 points. James Richardson was the standout forward kicking 4 goals and took some excellent contested marks close to goal. Fletcher Loader and Ethan McMasters were creative up forward whilst Lou White and Ethan Lawler won plenty of the ball through the midfield. Isaac Quick dominated in the ruck and won plenty of the ball around the ground. The players in defence all played their role holding Phoenix College scoreless for the entire match. Best Players SPC White: Jai Dodemaide, Ben Dodd, Hudson Wilde, Brayden Jones, Cooper Brennan. SPC White started the game strongly using the breeze to their advantage by taking a 1 st quarter lead of 7 goals the boys worked as a team and were unselfish on multiple occasions to give their teammate space to work in. Clarendon responded from the first quarter and started flooding our

6 forward line making it hard for SPC White to penetrate and find space forward of centre. Jai Dodemaide and Ben Dodd worked tirelessly throughout the midfield and won a lot of contested ball to set their teammates up. The game was played in great spirits and was a tough and physical game and our Year 10 boys showed a lot of class and will at the contest. Chris Giampaolo SPC 2 nd XVIII White Coach 1 st XVIII SPC Defeated Ballarat Grammar Best Players: Scott Carlin, Jordan Johnston, Noah Wheeler, Tom Scott, Keegan Gray, Jordan Grant Goal Kickers: Jordan Johnstone 7, Noah Wheeler 5, Scott Carlin 4, Harry Hobbs 2, Ben Hutt, Keegan Gray, Tom Clark, Dale Cox. SPC 1st XVIII kicked off the BAS season with a comprehensive victory over Ballarat Grammar on the SPC Main Oval. After a sluggish start SPC were able to control the game with quick ball movement and excellent defensive pressure. Jordan Johnstone was a focal point up forward taking some excellent contested marks and kicking 7 goals. Scotty Carlin showed great composure with the ball and was able to finish well in front of goal kicking 4 goals. Noah Wheeler kicked 5 goals and won plenty of the ball in his role as a forward/ midfielder. The backline was well led by Jordan Grant who was very clean with the ball and he was well supported by the athletic Tom Scott who rebounded well from defensive 50. There are a number of areas that the side still needs to work however overall, each player contributed and played their role in the 109-point win. Joe Carmody Assistant Coach SPC 1 st XVIII
