The League stages of all the competitions are now completed. We have the results of and reactions to the matches. Well that was the indoor season that was!

3 The League stages of all the competitions are now completed. We have the results of and reactions to the matches. Well that was the indoor season that was! The most obvious topic to start with this week is that of the most outstanding team in Scottish Indoor hockey at this time our very own Ladies 1sts!! They absolutely annihilated all-comers in the Ladies National Indoor League Division 1, winning all 14 games, scoring 121 goals, conceding a meagre 17 goals and winning the title by a massive 11 points from local rivals Grove Menzieshill revenge Sicilian style! Demolition Derby! Ladies thrash local rivals Grove-Menziehill Ladies 11-2 It was indeed completed in style on the final day of the season on Sunday 3rd February 2013 at Forthbank with victories over Kelburne Ladies 1sts, CALA Ladies 1sts and Grove Menzieshill Ladies 1sts 5-2, 13-2 and 11-2 respectively. All that is left now is to carry this form into the National League Play-Offs on Saturday 9th February 2013 at Bell s Sports Centre, Perth to cap a remarkable season and see us qualify for European competition yet again. The Ladies 2nds also rounded off their campaign on the same day at DISC, with a slightly disappointing mix of results, depriving them of second spot after a resurgent second half of the campaign. A defeat to bottom side Bon Accord Ladies 1sts certainly wasn t on the menu at the start of the day with us going down 2-4, but a much better result against Perthshire Ladies 1sts in the final game 6-4 ensured a fine end of season 3rd place. All in all a creditable effort by the 2nds which should give great heart for next season and perhaps if they can get out of the blocks as they finished, they could be the team for all others to beat. The Men s 2nds wrapped up their campaign on Saturday 2nd February 2012 with 2 games in the Main Hall at Bell s with the depressingly familiar outcome of a defeat and a draw

4 against Quaser 1sts 2-4 and Kelburne 2nds 3-3 respectively, thereby condemning them to relegation to the Regional League for next season. Certainly not what the doctor ordered but with the personnel available over the piece, it was almost inevitable. It appears, certainly from making my own enquiries into the reasons for this indoor season s outcomes on the men s side of the club, that much more commitment is required in terms of attendance at training sessions and availability on match days which are, at no little cost, supported by the club. Additionally, and by no means least, consideration has to be given to those who are giving up their free time for free to coach and train the sides, because if cognisance of their contribution is not given, we may find ourselves without their services. There seems little point in deluding ourselves that we can continue in this manner if we wish to challenge at the top of the Scottish Indoor Scene and continue to develop the talent required to remain there, so I would expect a good response for next season s Indoor Competitions. On a more upbeat note, congratulations also have to go to the Men s 1sts who secured 4th spot in the Men s National League Division 1, thereby also qualifying along with the Ladies for the Play-Offs on Gala Day. It wasn t a vintage season for the Men s 1sts but one which demonstrated to them what it takes to compete at this level and hopefully for them to take on board for next season. The Gala Day promises to be feast of hockey and I would urge all to make the effort to go and support the guys and girls in what could be a defining day for the club going forward.
