fhgfdgdfgdg 2016 Friday 10th November, 2017 FROM THE DEPUTY HEAD S DESK Welcome back to pupils, parents and staff from what I hope was an enjoyable and restful break. It s wonderful to have the opportunity to address you from behind the Deputy Headteacher s desk. Here at school we have quickly got back into our stride and are looking forward to, what I am sure will be, a busy and exciting build up towards the Christmas activities in the latter part of the term. The sports clubs have been well attended this week in preparation for a busy week of fixtures ahead. We look forward to the start of the girls football season and welcome a new member of the Tottenham Hotspur coaching team, Aaliya Abdirahman. I would like to wish good luck to all the pupils selected to represent the school in the regional ISA swimming gala next week. The prize of swimming at the nationals in the Olympic pool is a huge motivating factor and a wonderful opportunity. Continuing on the sporting front, I would like to congratulate Teddy in Year 5. In October he attended the IKU Karate World Championships in Ireland. I am delighted to announce that he won a silver medal. This is a magnificent achievement and I am sure he will continue to move from strength to strength. Well done Teddy. Today in assembly we launched our Anti-Bullying Week initiative. Pupils from all years will take part in different cross-curricular activities throughout the week in some of their lessons. This is a national campaign and we hope to improve the message within school that we are All Different, All Equal. I am looking forward to seeing the work the pupils produce in future assemblies. At 11am today we gathered as a whole school to pay our respects for the fallen soldiers in preparation for Armistice Day. I would like to thank our Head Boy, Matthew and Head Girl, Evie for reading two wartime poems as part of the ceremony. This evening we are having our annual bonfire night. The pupils have been busy stuffing and dressing the guys in preparation for the fire. The fire will be lit at 5.30pm and the fireworks set off at 6pm. This is one of the highlights of the term and I look forward to welcoming you this evening. 1
CELEBRATING BONFIRE NIGHT This week has been a busy one in Reception. The children have been learning about Bonfire Night and firework safety. They created some spectacular firework pictures, made 3D rockets, invented their own rocket names and also created rocket kebabs. They then drew firework pictures on the playground floor with paints and chalk. Great work Reception! 2
PRE-SCHOOL NEWS This week pre-school pupils have been focusing on the story of Shark in the Park. The children have made telescopes and shark fin hats and had a great time watching the story being acted out at the Rhodes Centre on Wednesday afternoon. They have also been discussing the firework displays they have been to and have created some wonderful pieces of firework artwork. MORNING DROP OFF A polite reminder that to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in the mornings, the drop and go system should only be used by parents who are dropping and leaving right away. If parents need to stop even for a short while, they should park in the car park. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter. 3
LEST WE FORGET In Reception the children have been learning all about Remembrance Day and why poppies are bought in November. They have been very busy painting Flanders Field and making their own poppies. 4
YEAR 1 ENGLISH This week Year 1 have been learning all about non-fiction books. They were given the challenge of identifying and finding specific features of these types of books including contents pages, headings, subheadings, labels, captions and glossary. They then had to write labels and captions about their favourite superhero. Excellent work! SAVE THE DATES Please see below some save the dates over the next two weeks: 15th November - East Anglia junior swimming competition (10.30am pm) 16th November - Year 5 Braintree Museum trip 16th November - Fire Brigade visiting the pre-school (10am am) 16th November - Year 10 parents evening 17th November - Scholarships assessment day* 17th November - Year 2 Kidzania trip 17th November - Children In Need Day - lower school 17th November - Year 9 interim progress reports issued 20th - 27th November - Year 11 mock examinations (plus 5th December) 20th November - Pre-school parents evening - Butterflies (2pm - 6pm) 20th November - Rotary Youth Speaks 22nd November - East Anglia senior swimming competition 22nd November - Pre-school parents evening - Caterpillars (2pm - 6pm) 22nd November - Lower school parents workshop (4pm pm) 22nd November - GCSE certificate presentation evening (7pm - 8pm) 24th November - Lower school reports issued 24th November - Year 10 Skills London * Year 2 scholarship applicants will sit their assessments throughout the week, details have been sent to parents. 5
SPORTS REPORT SPURS BALL BOYS/GIRLS Report by Mark, Year 11 On 1st of November, Matthew, Henry, Charlie, Izzy Olivia and I had the opportunity to visit Tottenham Hotspur s training ground in Enfield as ball boys and girls for the Tottenham vs Real Madrid U19 match. When we arrived at the training ground, we were all amazed by the outstanding facilities. We were told to position ourselves by spreading ourselves around the whole pitch. The game kicked off and it was an even start from both teams until Real Madrid scored. However, Tottenham fought back and equalised minutes later. Real Madrid once again took the lead later on in the game, but Tottenham soon equalised. The score line was 2-2 with minutes left to play before Tottenham eventually found the winner they deserved and the final score line was 3-2 to Tottenham. Overall, we all thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic experience and we are all very grateful to Mr Tucker for letting us have this wonderful opportunity. Please see below the sports clubs and activities timetable for this half term. A full clubs list can be seen on the parent area. 6
