LIMESTONE COUNTY Date: SUMMER 2015 What s Inside: 4-H Regional Congress 4-H State Competition Achievement Awards State Ambassador Livestock Judging Well before school was out for the summer, Limestone 4-H County Roundup winners in the Junior (ages 9-11) and Intermediate (ages 12-13) divisions have been preparing for the next level of competition, the NW 4-H Regional Congress. These youth met with 4-H Foundation Agent, Ms Marian Beck and 4-H Agent Assistant, Mrs. Lisa Towe numerous times to prepare their projects and practice inter- views, making the BEST BETTER. 4-H County youth winners from Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Limestone, and Morgan County competed for the regional titles in their respective categories. On June 20, 2015, twenty Limestone County 4-H youth participated and competed for NW 4-H Regional Congress at Calhoun Community College. Limestone County youth truly exhibited excellence and honor in each of their respective categories. Of the twenty delegates there were fourteen first place and four second place wins. Limestone senior 4-H members, Shelly Hardin, Nicole Towe, Rebekah Wood, Chelsea White served as part of the Senior Leadership Team, Media Team and served as Junior Judges for the competitions:. Thirteen senior-level members, participated in this event at the 4-H Center in Columbiana, AL bringing home five 1st s, two 2nd s, two 3rds. Have I got a Story, Senior II Shelbie Runions - 2nd place On July 31, 2015 two Limestone County students were awarded the 2015 State Achievement Awards. Nicole Towe was awarded the 4-H Equine Science Award, Senior Level I. Nicole will be attending the Southern Region TEEN Leadership Conference in September 2015. Rebekah Wood was awarded the 4-H Achievement Award for Food & Nutrition, Senior Level II. She will be attending the 4-H National Congress in November 2015. 4-H is a safe, welcoming place for kids to learn and belong. More than 2180 young people participate in Limestone County Alabama.

June 16, 2015 - These youth and many more in our community are going to be leaders. We need to make sure they have the knowledge to preserve and protect our landmarks. Thanks to Mr. Frost for volunteering to help with this project. Thirteen students visited 18 of the 24 historical markers located in Limestone County. CANOEING, ARCHERY, Rock Climbing, Zip Line, swimming, and more fun was experienced by these local 4-H members that attended. We are already looking forward to next year! This group toured the Farmers Market located in Birmingham, Al, visited the Ronald McDonald House to make donations and toured the University of Alabama.

4-H'ers in the State 4-H Livestock Judging Competition. The results were: Senior 4th overall team. 2nd Team Reasons: Tate Yancey, Lindsay Chandler, Megan Heath, Angel Howland, Ashlyn Ruf and Katie Northup. Ashlyn Ruf won 1st overall Reasons. Megan Heath 8th overall Reasons. Tate Yancey won 2nd overall Beef. Intermediate- Will Harkins won 2nd Swine, Reagan Green 8th overall Reasons. We placed in Junior- 5th overall team with Jacob and Natalie Lovell. Proud of this group and their sponsor Ben Maples! The top 15 from the State of Alabama 4-H Livestock judging contest were called back to Montgomery and Auburn this week to narrow it down to 4 individuals that will represent Alabama on an all star team that will compete nationally. ASHLYN KATE RUF WAS SELECTED AS ONE OF THE TOP 4.

Alabama 4-H State Ambassador selected 20 individuals throughout the state to represent Alabama during the 2015/2016 year. Rebekah Wood, age 17 and a senior in the Way Home Homeschool Covering was selected into the 4-H Ambassador Program. Rebekah will attend a variety of events to promote leadership, citizenship and work in community service s throughout the state.
