(SYC) invites entries for the Mercedes-Benz Brighton Saturday Summer Series to be sailed from October to April on Port Phillip. Page 1

1. RULES All races will be governed by the rules as defined in World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), Prescriptions and Special Regulations of the Australian Sailing (AS) and SYC Sailing Instructions (SI). A separate Nautilus Marine Series Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions will be issued by Australian Sailing; however, entry is via the SYC web based entry system. 1.1 SYC Membership Requirements and MemberPoint sign on Before each race, all boats are required to sign on all their crew via the MemberPoint app. (MemberPoint > member services > crew sign on), or through their opyacht online entry prior to first race of the day. Non-compliance is subject to a protest by the Race Committee. A breach of this requirement is not protestable by another boat. If found by the Protest Committee to have breached this requirement, the penalty will be having her race score increased by 25% of the difference between the boat s finishing score and the score for DSQ in her division or class, rounded up to the next whole number. All other boats scores will remain the same. his changes RRS Rule 64.1 and appendix A. 1.2 MANUAL POWER RRS Rule 52 shall not apply. 1.3 RASH DISPOSAL RRS 55 is amended by adding the following sentence to the rule: However, discarding cotton, wool, or any other similar biodegradable material when setting a sail is permitted. 2. ELIGIBILIY AND ENRY Entry is open to all monohull keelboats that comply with the requisite safety category, have completed their safety compliance declaration and have lodged their Man Overboard compliance form. Safety declaration shall be lodged by marking the applicable box on the on-line entry. A separate Man Overboard compliance declaration (including the strongly recommended use of a water rescue training dummy for MOB recovery) must be lodged with the SYC Boating Office and is available on the SYC web site under Keelboat Racing. Eligible boats may enter for all events including the Nautilus Marine Series via the web at www.syc.com.au/keelboat-racing/online-entry/ Boats may enter for all handicap and rating systems as part of the entry fee. Casual entries will be accepted up to 1200 on the Friday preceding the race. Late casual entries may be accepted in the Boating Department subject payment of double the normal entry fee. elephone or radio entries will not be accepted. Nautilus Marine Series entry requirements are listed in the Nautilus Marine Series Notice of Race available on the AS website. Page 2

3. ENRY FEES Block Entry includes Round the Stix, Aggregate Series, SYC regatta, Australia Day race and all trophy races (excludes Nautilus Marine Series) Series Entry Casual Entry fee per race day $110.00 $20.00 Nautilus Marine Series (Separate NOR) $215.00 $35.00 Round the Stix Series only $40.00 $20.00 SYC Regatta only (Separate NOR) AMS/IRC ratings only, PHS Quarterdeck rophy, PHS handicap only $50.00 $20.00 NA NA Australia Day Race only $15.00 Additional LAE FEE of $50.00 applies to all block and series entry payments made after Saturday 20 October 2018. here will be no refund of casual entry payments for boats that subsequently apply for series entry, nor any reduction in the block entry fee. he entry fee covers all handicaps and ratings. 4. RACE FORMA All races are sailed as fleet races with a separate mass start for each division. Races may be boat start, laid mark courses or boat start, club (fixed mark) courses. Races using tower start, club (fixed mark) courses will be advised via Notice to Competitors (NC). 5. RACE PROGRAM Refer Appendix A. he start time for each race is stated in Appendix A. he Warning Signal for the first division starting will be 5 minutes prior to the time indicated. he number of Club Aggregate races scheduled is 10 of which 5 must be completed to constitute a Series. he number of Round the Stix races scheduled is 9 of which 4 must be completed to constitute a Series. he number of Peter aylor rophy races scheduled is 2 of which 1 must be completed to constitute a Series. Aggregate races that have been abandoned may be re-sailed on the following days: a) Resail day 1 Saturday 1 December 2018 at 1200 b) Resail day 2 Saturday 2 February 2019 at 1200 c) Resail day 3 Saturday 23 March 2019 at 1200 Boats will be advised of races to be re-sailed by SMS, Member Point app, on SYC website and/or by NC by 1700 on uesday before the resail day. 6. HANDICAPS and RAINGS Performance (PHS) handicaps will be allocated by the Race Committee for each race. AMS ratings will be those issued by the Rating Authority (YRSA) and current at 1600 on the Friday before the race. IRC ratings will be those issued by the Rule Authority (AS) and current at 1600 on the Friday before the race. he IRC No Spinnaker rating and the AMS No Spinnaker or wo-handed ratings are not permitted to be used. A boat without a valid rating will be scored DNC for that race in that division. No alteration to the boat s rating will be permitted after this date and the completion of the race, except as a result of a rating protest, or to correct rating office errors. he Race Committee may make corrections to handicaps or ratings at any time. his changes RRS Rule 78. 7. DIVISIONS a) Club Aggregate Series and rophy Races Boats shall race in divisions according to their start of season PHS handicap based on the following guidelines: Division 1 above 0.901 Division 2 0.826 to 0.900 Division 3 0.600 to 0.825 hose boats with a starting PHS handicap between 0.885 and 0.915 may apply to the Race Committee for permission to sail in either Division 1 or 2. hose boats with a starting PHS handicap between 0.810 and 0.840 may apply to the Race Committee for permission to sail in either Division 2 or 3. b) Saturday Round the Stix Series Boats shall race in divisions according to their start of season PHS performance handicap as follows: Division A 0.831 and above Division B 0.830 and below Division B - Non-Spinnaker (No Extras) All he divisional break point of 0.830 may be varied by the Race Committee prior to the first race, or divisions may be combined into one based on number of initial entries. hose boats with a starting PHS handicap +/-20 points of the break point may apply to the Race Committee for permission to sail in either Division A or B c) Australia Day Race Allocation of divisions will be based on number of entries. Event Performance Handicaps will be allocated by the Race Committee. Note: Notwithstanding the above guidelines, boats may be allocated to a division at the absolute discretion of the Race Committee. Depending on number of entries, the number of divisions may be reduced. he decision of the Race Committee will be final, and boats shall not change divisions thereafter. Boats wishing to race on AMS or IRC rating only shall start with the PHS handicap division appropriate to their PHS handicap. Page 4

Boats assigned to Group K by the RC shall sail and be scored as a part of the appropriate PHS division. heir division flag will be that of the division in which they are entered. he Group K eligibility criteria and assigned boat list will be posted on the Notice Board. 8. SAILING INSRUCIONS SYC Sailing Instructions are available from the SYC Office and are available on the SYC web site. he first copy for each boat is issued free but a fee will be charged for additional copies. RBYC Sailing Instructions are available from the RBYC website and will apply to races conducted by RBYC. Notice to Competitors may be issued on the day of racing. hese and a day sheet with handicap listings will be available at the Boating Office before the race. 9. RACING AREA he races will be conducted on Port Phillip as follows: Nautilus Marine Series refer to Nautilus Marine Series NoR for courses and start line location. SYC races off SYC. RBYC hosted races off RBYC. 10. COURSES Courses will be as described in the Sailing Instructions. 11. SCORING All races will be scored in AMS, IRC and PHS unless noted otherwise. Non-Spinnaker boats will be scored in PHS only. a) Club Aggregate Series Each boat s Series score shall be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score/s for 20% of completed races to the nearest lower whole number. his changes RRS A2. Only the better score of the races 5A or 5B will be counted in the Series score. Where multiple races are held as part of an event (e.g. Commodore-in Chief rophy and Port Phillip rophy), then that Series result shall be counted in the Club Aggregate Series. b) Attendance at Major Championships A boat that intends to compete in an AS sanctioned national or state championship, or any other race that the RC may nominate as a significant race, may, not less than seven days prior to the event, apply in writing to the RC to award average points for the Club Aggregate race missed. he approval for the award of average points shall be at the sole discretion of the RC and is not subject to request for redress. he average points shall only be awarded to boats that actually compete in the designated race/s. A delay of boat works, transport or other non-racing events shall not be grounds for obtaining average points. he missed race(s) will be scored by allocating average points of all races sailed to date, rounded up to the nearest 0.1 point. his averaging shall apply to scoring for Aggregate races only. c) Peter aylor Series he Peter aylor Series rophy will be scored in AMS divisions only, combined with RBYC (and other club) fleet(s), with no discards. his changes RRS Rule A2. d) Round the Stix Series Each boat s Series score will be in accordance with RRS A2. A separate score will be calculated for Non- Spinnaker boats, sailing as part of Div B. Page 5

e) Group K When Group K racing is abandoned for a Series race 1 or 2, Group K boats shall be scored by allocating average points of the next 2 sailed races, rounded up to the nearest 0.1 point. When Group K racing is abandoned for later Series races, they shall be scored by allocating average points of all races sailed to date, rounded up to the nearest 0.1 point. his averaging shall not apply to scoring for Non-Series trophy races. f) Casual entries Boats that have sailed as casual entries that subsequently convert to Series entry will not be scored in the series for races sailed prior to submission and payment of Series entry fee. g) Minimum entrants For a handicap or rating division to be scored there must be a minimum of 5 entries in that division 12. PRIZES Prizes will be awarded for first place in each race and will be presented in the Clubhouse after the day s racing. Series and trophy winners will have their inscriptions added to the respective perpetual trophies and will be awarded a memento trophy. rophies will be presented at the end of the series. Perpetual trophies shall remain in the clubhouse for display in the trophy cabinet. Only SYC-registered boats with the lowest series score in a handicap/rating in a Division of the club aggregate races will be awarded the title of Club Champion. a) Club Captain s rophy he Club Captain s rophy will be awarded to SYC-registered keelboat with the lowest combined score, with no exclusions, in the Club Aggregate Series based on Measurement Rating(s) across all Divisions, calculated as follows: For each race within the Club Aggregate Series, boat s score will be calculated as follows: Score = Place / Number of Starters within that Division and Rating. A boat that is a starter but then is DNF, DSQ, etc shall receive a score of 1.0. A boat that is entered within the Club Aggregate Series but does not start a race shall be given a score of 1.2. Series ties will be broken per RRS A8. b) Peter aylor rophy he Peter aylor Series rophy will be held at the club (limited to SYC or RBYC) with the most AMS winners across the divisions. E.g. if a RBYC boat wins Divisions 1 and 2, then the trophy will reside at RBYC for the ensuing year. 13. SAFEY he safety categories applicable to these races are as follows: Club races including Nautilus Marine Series/Passage races (in daylight hours) AS Category 6 Races conducted partially or wholly during hours of darkness AS Category 5N Please note that additional safety items may also be stipulated in the Notice to Competitors for the event. A declaration of compliance with safety requirements and Man Overboard form lodged from 1 October of a given year will remain valid until 31 October the following year. he safety declaration will not remain valid unless the boat, together with its safety equipment, is maintained in accordance with the requirements of the relevant safety category. Group K: In the event of a need to signal Group K Boats independent of the division in which they sail then the appropriate flags will be flown over the K flag. his could apply in the event of unsuitable weather conditions where group K racing is abandoned by flying the N over A over K flags Skippers of all boats must recognise the limitations of their vessel and withdraw from the race if weather conditions exceed class rules or design safety parameters. Skippers are reminded of RRS Fundamental Rule 4 - Decision to Race: he responsibility for a boats decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone he Organising Authority will not accept any liability for any material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the race 14. INSURANCE All competing yachts shall have public liability insurance for an amount of not less than en Million Dollars ($10,000,000) with racing risk extension. 15.
