THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE: The Phillies currently lead the National League and rank 2 nd in the majors with 4.18 pitches per plate appearance (614 pitches, 147 PA) Additionally, of their 147 plate appearances thus far, Philadelphia hitters have swung at the first pitch only 26 times (24.5%), which is the second-best first-pitch swing % in the NL (best: LAD, 23.8%) This comes following a spring in which they ranked 5 th among all major league clubs with 128 walks in 36 games (3.56 BB/G) Philadelphia s 3.56 walks per game rate was their highest in any spring training since online data was tracked starting in 2006. GLOVELY: Through four games, the Phillies (136 TC) are one of just seven teams in baseball who have yet to commit an error (others: BAL; 122 TC, COL; 132 TC, KC; 119 TC, MIA; 141 TC, MIN; 137 TC & WSH; 153 TC) Dating back to last season, the Phillies have now gone six straight games without a defensive blunder (10/1/16-current). RAGING BULL: Centerfielder Odubel Herrera has reached base successfully in 10 of his first 18 plate appearances this season (6 H, 4 BB,.556 OBP) Selected by the Phillies in the 2014 Rule 5 draft, and having never played above double-a before his MLB debut, Herrera was batting.243 with a.275 OBP and.353 SLG % through his first 68 career games (232 plate appearances, 4/6-6/26/15) Since then, he is batting.305 with a.375 OBP and.438 SLG % (979 plate appearances, 6/28/15-current) Among all major league players who have amassed at least 800 plate appearances in that span, Herrera is one of only seven active players with a batting average greater than.300 and an on-base percentage higher than.375: CIN s Joey Votto (.328 AVG,.458 OBP), LAA s Mike Trout (.309 AVG,.430 OBP), DET s Miguel Cabrera (.312 AVG,.396 OBP), COL s DJ LeMahieu (.325 AVG,.392 OBP), MIA s Christian Yelich (.314 AVG,.387 OBP) and HOU s Jose Altuve (.331 AVG,.382 OBP) Born on December 29, 1991, Herrera is the second-youngest amongst that group (youngest: Yelich, 12/5/91). ON THIS DATE IN PHILLIES HISTORY: April 8, 1969: Rookie SS Don Money homers twice and drives in five runs but the Phillies lose their season opener, 7-6, in 11 innings at Wrigley Field. NATITUDE PROBLEM: The Phillies have lost 13 of their last 14 games against the Nationals (5/30/16- current), with their lone win coming on September 8 of last season (W, 4-1) Philadelphia has been outscored 66-35 over the 14-game stretch (-31, -2.21 RPG) Phillies pitchers have a combined 4.67 ERA (63 ER, 121.1. IP) in that span with two blown saves, while their offense is hitting.182 (79-434) with a.245 OBP and.323 SLG % Philadelphia has also lost seven straight home games to the Nationals, their longest losing streak ever against the Washington/Montreal franchise at home (previous: 6 G, 9/20/11-5/22/12) Philadelphia s longest losing streak against any individual team at Citizens Bank Park was an 8-game stretch against the Milwaukee Brewers from April 8, 2014 to June 2, 2016. THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Philadelphia finished the 2016 season with the second-lowest average player age among all Major League clubs (26.9 years old) Only the Arizona Diamondbacks were younger (26.5) This spring, 30 of the 62 players who reported to Phillies camp were 25 or younger (48%) and the average age of the Opening Day 25-man roster on April 3 was 28.08 years old.
