Cincinnati Reds (12-27) vs. LOS ANGELES DODGERS (16-22) RHP Homer Bailey (0-5, 5.61) vs. RHP Ross Stripling (0-1, 1.93) Saturday, May 12, 2018 6:10 p.m PT Dodger Stadium Los Angeles, CA Game 39 Home Game 20 (8-11) Night Game 29 (12-16) TV: SNLA/SNLA Spanish Radio: AM 570 (English); KTNQ 1020 AM (Spanish); AM 1540 (Korean) FLIPPING THE SCRIPT: The Dodgers lost their second straight game and have dropped five of their last six contests following last night s 6-2 defeat to the Reds. Los Angeles fell to 1-3 in their six-game homestand against Arizona (1-1) and Cincinnati (0-2) and tonight looks to avoid losing its first series against the Redlegs since September 6-8, 2013. Following the weekend series against the Reds and a travel day on Monday, the Boys in Blue will begin a six-game road trip with a couple of three-game series with the Marlins (Tuesday-Thursday) and the Nationals (Friday-Sunday). Despite losing two straight games to the Reds, the Dodgers have won 17 of 22 games against the Redlegs since the start of the 2015 campaign. Los Angeles has also gone 9-2 in its last 11 games at Dodger Stadium against the Reds since August 14, 2015. The Boys in Blue swept the season series in 2017, 6-0, which was the first time the club had accomplished such a feat since 2006, when the club also took all six-games. The last time the Dodgers started the season going 16-22 or worse in its first 38 games of the year was in 2013, when the club also went 16-22. After the slow start, the 2013 Dodgers won the National League West division and reached the National League Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. BRINGING THE BAND BACK: Prior to tonight s contest against the Reds, the Dodgers will host the Alumni Game, which is a part of the Alumni Weekend presented by Security Benefit as the club will honor the 30 th anniversary of the 1988 World Series champions. 16 members of the 88 club are expected to participate in the festivities and the Alumni Game. Alumni Batting Practice will start at 3:10 p.m. (when gates open) and the alumni introductions will begin at 4:00 p.m. with the game scheduled to start at 4:15 p.m. Fans will also have autograph and photo opportunities with Alumni at Dodger Stadium entrances prior to tomorrow s game. More information on Alumni Weekend presented by Security Benefit can be found online at www.dodgers.com/alumnigame. The first 40,000 fans in attendance tonight will also receive a 60 th Anniversary Cap presented by Security Benefit. CHICKEN STRIP: Dodger right-hander Ross Stripling will make his third start of the season and his 19 th of his career tonight against the Reds. Stripling started last Sunday against the Padres in Monterrey, Mexico, allowing just four hits and striking out five batters over 4.0 scoreless innings. In his career as a starter, the 28-year-old has gone 3-7 with a 4.26 ERA (42 ER/88.2 IP) with a.261 opponents average against and 67 strikeouts. Stripling has appeared in 11 games this year out of the bullpen, allowing just one run in 15.1 innings (0.59 ERA), while striking out 17 and limiting the opposition to a.211 average. His ERA as a reliever ranks fourth best in the Majors this season. Stripling has faced the Reds just once in his career, allowing three runs on five hits over 2.0 inning of relief on June 11, 2017 at Dodger Stadium. V IS FOR VENDITTE: Prior to tonight s contest, the Dodger selected the contract of ambidextrous pitcher Pat Venditte (#43) from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 32-year-old has made 15 relief appearances with the OKC Dodger this season, going 2-0 with a 1.53 ERA (3 ER/17.2 IP) and limiting the opposition to.167 average. He has also struck out 19 batters against six walks in 17.2 innings and posted a 0.91 WHIP. The switch-pitcher was a non-roster invitee in this year s camp with the Dodgers and appeared in 10 Cactus League games, allowing just two runs over 11.1 innings of relief (1.59 ERA) and striking out 14 against just three walks, while holding hitters to a.167 average. The switchpitcher has appeared in 41 career big league games over two seasons with the Athletics (2015), Blue Jays (2016) and Mariners (2016), going 2-2 with a 4.97 ERA and striking out 42 batters against 23 walks in 50.2 innings. He has held big league hitters to a.241 career average, including limiting left-handed batters to a.185 mark. To create room on the active roster the Dodgers optioned righthanded pitcher Brock Stewart to Triple-A OKC. To create room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred shortstop Corey Seager to the 60-day disabled list (right UCL surgery). MATCHUP vs. Reds Dodgers: 4 th, NL West (8.0 GB) Reds: 5 th, NL Central (11.5 GB) All-Time: LA leads series, 1,071-1,018-13 (201-171 at Dodger Stadium) 2018: LA trails series, 0-2 (0-2 at Dodger Stadium) 5/10 at LA: 1-4, W: Mahle L: Buehler S: Iglesias 5/11 at LA: 2-6, W: Brice L: Maeda S: Iglesias COMEBACK TRAIL: Dodger infielder Logan Forsythe played in his first rehab game last night with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, going 0- for-3 and appeared in seven innings at second base. Forsythe, who was placed on 10-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, is set to appear in his second rehab game tonight and make the start as the designated hitter with the Quakes. Joining Forsythe in Rancho Cucamonga tonight will be Dodger All-Star third baseman Justin Turner, who is scheduled to appear in his first rehab game. Turner, who faced a couple minor league pitchers during the week in a simulated game, is scheduled to play seven innings at third base and will get three or four at-bats tonight. Turner was placed on the disabled list on March 26 with a left wrist fracture after being hit by a pitch during a Spring Training game on March 19. PUNCH EM OUT: The Dodgers 379 strikeouts and 3.03 strikeout-towalk ratio as a pitching staff ranks second in the National League, trailing only the Nationals 398 punchouts and 3.40 strikeout-to-walk ratio. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIB: The Dodgers would like to wish lefthanded reliever Adam Liberatore a very happy 31 st birthday today. Liberatore has appeared in 11 games with the Dodgers this season, going 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA (2 ER/7.2 IP) and striking out eight, while holding hitters to a.185 average. The southpaw is in his fourth season with Los Angeles, going 5-5 with a 3.56 ERA and holding the opposition to a.221 average in 112 career games. IN A PINCH: The Dodger bench has proven to be very resourceful for Dodger manager Dave Roberts as the club currently leads the Majors with 23 hits by a pinch-hitter and ranks among the league leaders in pinch-hit average (.295, 6 th ), RBI (12, T-1 st ), OBP (.402, 6 th ) and OPS (.800, 5 th ). Chase Utley has been very reliable when being called upon off the bench, as he has recorded seven hits as pinch-hitter this season, which is tied for the most in the big leagues with the Cubs Tommy La Stella. His.583 batting average (7-for-12) as a pinch-hitter ranks second in the Majors, while his five RBI is the second most in the bigs. THE HISTORY OF BLUE & RED: During the 1970s, the Reds and Dodgers combined to win the National League Western Division nine out of 10 seasons. Cincinnati s Big Red Machine won in 1970, 1972-73, 1975-76 and 1979. The Dodgers Big Blue Wrecking Crew won in 1974, 1977-78. The Giants won the West in 1971, finishing one game ahead of the Dodgers. THE MAN THEY CALL SILVER FOX: Dodger infielder Chase Utley batted leadoff for the first time this season and went 1-for-3 in last night s contest, as he has gone 4-for-7 (.571) in his last three games. Utley has seen success throughout his career against the Reds, as he has slashed.298/.365/.542 with 53 runs, 18 doubles, 20 homers and 58 RBI in 89 career games. The 39-year-old has reached base safely in 13 of his last 14 games against Cincinnati since August 26, 2015, hitting.435 (20- for-46) with 13 runs, two doubles, two homers and six RBI along with a.536 on-base percentage and a.609 slugging percentage. THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH: Despite going hitless in last night s contest (0-for-3), Dodger outfielder Matt Kemp currently holds the fifth best batting average in the National League (12 th, ML) with a.324 mark. In 36 games this season, Kemp is slashing.324/.367/.523 with 13 runs, seven doubles, five home runs and 17 RBI in his return to the Dodger organization. He is currently tied with Chris Taylor, Yasmani Grandal and Kiké Hernández for the most longballs on the club, while also leading the Dodgers in batting average, slugging percentage and OPS (.889, 18 th NL). The 33-year-old has 264 career home runs, which ties him for 201 st on the all-time list, one behind George Bell, Brian McCann and Matt Stairs. Kemp s 1,224 hits rank eighth in L.A. Dodger history and his 222 doubles ranks seventh, one shy of Ron Cey.
