Each Exhibitor must supervise and control their animals at all times and shall be liable for any hazards created or accident, illness or damage caused by the action of themselves or their animals at the Show grounds. Exhibitors must comply with the appropriate Animal Legislation and the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992; and any amendments thereafter. All competitors compete at their own risk. The Society reserves the right to refuse any competitor s entries without giving a reason. 1

Entries will be accepted on our own entry form or those of the ESNZ (where applicable). The names of all horses and ponies must be stated on the entry form. All charges are inclusive of GST. Exhibitors must check their entry form carefully; once entries are received and paid for they will be catalogued. All Riders, Horses and Ponies must compete with the appropriate ESNZ membership. All classes run under ESNZ rules current at the time of the show. Times shown are approximate only and may vary dependant on entries. NOVICE: A Novice horse or pony or rider is one that has yet to win 6 show classes in any division within the competitions provided at an A & P Show. Upon achieving the sixth win in a division, a pony, horse or rider thereafter must compete in the appropriate open classes within that division. CLARIFICATION: not to have won three firsts - (0-2 wins) not to have won six firsts - (0-5 wins) Once a horse/pony/rider has three wins they are no longer eligible and can only go in the 0-5 wins class, once they have six wins they can no longer enter in a novice class in that section. Exhibitors must carry a current performance card for every Novice horse and make this available in the ring upon request. These must be signed by the Exhibitor or some person authorised to sign on their behalf and must be received before the closing date set. No entry will be considered valid unless the entry form has been completed and signed. Entry in the Show entitles the Society to publish an Exhibitors name in results and distribute with Exhibitor Lists. The Society reserves the right to refuse or cancel any entry without giving a reason for doing so. HACKS & PONIES: No stallions allowed to compete in show or harness classes. Exhibitors will not be allowed in the ring except when riding or leading their exhibits for judging. Although it is provided that horses/ponies may compete in more than one class, any or all of such classes may be judged simultaneously at the convenience of the judges or stewards. In all such cases, the exhibitors having an exhibit entered in more than one class must elect in which class they compete. All Stallions MUST wear official stallion badges AT ALL TIMES and handlers must wear approved armbands. HUNTER CLASSES ARE OPEN TO ALL HORSES NOT ENTERED IN HACK, PARK HACK OR RIDING HORSE SECTIONS, AND HACK, PARK HACK AND RIDING HORSE CLASSES ARE OPEN TO HORSES NOT ENTERED IN THE HUNTER SECTION. All horses/ponies in classes of prescribed height must be measured; shoes or no shoes and the person in charge must produce a Height Certificate on request. Exhibits in harness and hack classes can also compete in the driving, jumping and hunter s competitions respectively, where eligible. In all saddle classes horses must be ridden. A horse/pony being eligible for championships must be ridden by the same rider as in the class or classes in which it qualified unless permission of the horse marshall and stewards has been obtained. HEIGHT/PERFORMANCE CARDS: Height and registration certificates/performance cards MUST be carried AT ALL TIMES, and produced on request of a steward, or the rider will be disqualified from competing (i.e. prize money & ribbons will be forfeited.) Competitors will be able to place additional entries during the course of the Show. Additional entries will carry a 50% surcharge which must be paid at the time the additional entry is made. SCRATCHINGS: A refund of entry fees will only be considered if accompanied by a vet/doctor s certificate. All refunds will be less 25% if notified to the Secretary by 5pm 26th October 2017. Alterations will be $2 per change plus, entry fee difference. MEASURING: Exhibitors in any class where a Certificate of Height is required will be asked to show this certificate at any time. They may not leave the ring to obtain a certificate and will forfeit awards if certificate is not shown. Measuring Rules of The Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand will apply at this show. Life Certificates may be issued to animals seven years and older; Life Certificates will not be issued on show days. MEASURING: NO measuring available at this Show. 2

ANNUAL CERTIFICATES: The age of the horse/pony is calculated as from the 1st August. These certificates will be valid from 1st August to 31st July and will be issued by an RAS Measuring Steward. His/her signature must be witnessed. RAS Certificates must record the horse/ponies age, sex, name, colour, markings, brand (if any), owners name and address and date of measuring. If normal shoes are fitted 0.5cm allowance shall be made; no allowance shall be made for thin shoes or racing plates. PROTESTS: Any protests must be lodged with the Horse Marshall within half an hour of results being posted, accompanied with a $50 fee; to be forfeited if the complaint is not upheld. All disputes will be settled by the judiciary committee consisting of the society s executive and marshal of the section concerned. FORBIDDEN SUBSTANCES: The Rules of the Royal A & P Society New Zealand in regard to Forbidden Substances apply. Competitors are advised that tests for forbidden substances may be carried out during the Show/Event and that testing of all animals is at the person responsible s risk. Forbidden Substance any substance capable of affecting the speed, stamina, courage or conduct of a horse or pony by its action upon the central or peripheral nervous system or the cardio-vascular, respiratory, alimentary, digestive, musculoskeletal or urogenital systems. Animal Welfare is a priority for Wairarapa A & P. Any competitor seen using a harmful device will be asked to leave the grounds immediately without refund of any monies AGE OF RIDER: Riders age and eligibility is determined as per the 1 st of August. I.e. Riders/handlers who are of age for any division/section on 1 st August complete the show year/season in that division/section. Novice ponies may be ridden by riders of any age in Novice Pony classes only. Open ponies must be ridden by riders under 17 years of age. Riders in horse rings (exhibits over 148cm) must be 12 yrs & over. SADDLERY & ACCESSORIES: Whips in ridden classes shall not exceed 76 centimetres in length. Competitors in led classes may carry a dressage style whip. Saddlecloths are optional in all ridden events. It is preferred that saddlecloths used in flat classes at least are cut to the shape of the saddle. Bearing reins, Running reins or similar tack may not be used. A cane may be carried in led classes. Cutting whips are forbidden. The misuse of a whip or spurs, or the committing of an act of cruelty by an exhibitor to his horse or pony within the limits of the showground, including rapping or misuse of a practice jump will be penalised. Any such act must be reported by any horse/pony steward or judge to the Judicial or General committee. HATS & SAFETY HELMETS: A hard hat is generally described as a hunting cap, protective headwear or a safety helmet. Wearing a hard hat is compulsory for anyone competing on, working in, or schooling or riding for any other reason a horse/pony at an A & P Show or in any area considered to be part of the showground. All riders must wear protective headgear, which includes a retaining harness secured to the shell at more than two points. Such headgear must be worn with the chinstrap properly adjusted and fastened when in the arena or ring, the practice area, collecting rings or anywhere else within the showground. Helmets must meet the required safety standards as of 1 August 2017. Red tag must be visible on helmet harness. SAFETY: In the interest of safety, the stirrup iron & the stirrup leather (this also applies to safety stirrups), must hang freely from the bar of the saddle and the outside of the flap. The rider must not directly or indirectly tie any part of their body to the saddlery, unless an exhibitor s disability card is held. MOTORBIKES/SCOOTERS: May be ridden within grounds by licensed holders and not after 10pm. CAMPING ON GROUNDS: $10/vehicle (for Show). $30/vehicle for power available. Must accompany entry fees. By entering or attending the Wairarapa A & P Show competition, you accept that you may appear within differing media streams that are on location covering the event. Your behaviour at the event and within the competition arena is at your discretion and is your responsibility. Please note that there might be live streaming at the event therefore the camera is on throughout the day. PRIZE MONEY PAYOUT POLICY (For all Horse/Pony Sections): 1 to 3 entries 1 st prize money only, 3 to 4 entries 1 st and 2 nd prize money only, 5 plus entries full prize money pay-out. PM $5 and over and refunds $20 and over will be paid by direct credit using details on cheque/bank a/c with entry. Helmet Tagging will be available over the 3 Days after 1pm. Exact time to be announced over the speaker system. 3

Helmets must meet the required safety standards as of 1 August 2017. Red tag must be visible on helmet harness. Riders may compete in Introductory Classes in the Showjumping and Show Hunter Sections (ponies 80cm and under, horses 90cm and under, with no prize money) on an Introductory or Casual Membership ($10 per day, plus $5 ESNZ jumping levy per equine) All other riders must be full members with ESNZ ESNZ JUMPING LEVY (Compulsory for all horses/ponies): $5 per equine per show. ESNZ CASUAL JUMPING LEVY: The rider must be a full member with ESNZ. Horse/Pony not registered for ESNZ J/SH can compete using this levy. This is $20 for the show. Can jump up to 1.00m on a pony and up to 1.10m on a horse. You cannot compete in series classes using a casual jumping levy and will not be eligible for HOY points in Show Hunter. Fully registered riders/horses/ponies may enter ALL showjumping and showhunter classes including ESNZ series classes and can gain points towards HOY qualifications and National Series. Show Hunter Classes All Show Hunter classes will be run under the 2016 ESNZ Membership Rules - refer to www.nzequestrian.org.nz. All Show Hunter Classes will be run under ESNZ Show Hunter Rules 2016 V7 & Equitation Series Condition 2016. High points classes: Ponies can only enter the category appropriate to their certified height. Ponies may compete in any height category EXCEPT in the High Points classes where ponies may only enter the category appropriate to their certified height as stated above. LOW HUNTER: Fence range 70cm - 90cm maximum. Open to all horses regardless of previous experience. Combinations entering in the Low Hunter classes may only compete in Low Hunter and Introductory classes at that show.
