The Ladera Oaks USA Swim Team year-round program is designed for swimmers of any caliber, novice through national level. Swimmers are integrated into the appropriate practice group, insuring the opportunity to learn and grow. Philosophy The Ladera Oaks program focuses on the long-term development of each swimmer, respecting that athletes are different and will progress at their own rate. Swimmers will learn about the sport and build a strong technical base in all four strokes. In order to explore individual potential, each swimmer is exposed to different race distances and events. Time, patience and regular practice reinforce good stroke habits essential to any swimming career. Practice Groups Group I In Group I, the entry level on our team, swimmers should have previous lesson and/or swim team experience and should have some experience with the four competitive strokes. The swimmers learn basic swimming drills for each stroke and are introduced to starts and turns. Group II This group works extensively on refining their stroke and turn techniques through drill progressions. Swimmers learn that the drills are designed to focus on parts of each stroke. Training methods to explore longer distance swimming and sprinting ability are presented. Classroom sessions during the fall will focus on developing a better understanding of stroke mechanics and racing plans. To participate in this top level of our age-group program, swimmers are expected to be self-motivated and goal-oriented. The group is introduced to more sophisticated drill progressions and swimmers learn to assume more responsibility for self-correction of their strokes. Swimmers are educated in: training concepts, exercise philosophy, mental preparation, goal setting, and evaluation. Senior Program Our senior program s consists of two training groups: Pre-Senior and Senior. Entrance to these groups is dependant on meeting established criteria including swimming skill, experience and level of commitment. The goal of Pre-Senior swimming is preparation for Senior level swimming, which allows older swimmers to develop the necessary trainingbase and sense of commitment, allows swimmers to maximize their abilities in the senior years of their careers.
