It can t come soon enough. Hopefully the weather will cooperate like it did two years ago when we were playing golf in mid-march. The Eagle Brook Staff is looking forward to seeing your Family and Guests this year at all of the fun events we have in store for you. Recently I attended a Membership Boot Camp in Omaha Nebraska with Derek Weber and Tony Medina. It was a great three days and we took home some great information and ideas that we are looking to incorporate at Eagle Brook CC. Next, I will be heading to Dallas, Texas on Monday, March 2 nd Thursday, March 5 th for Eagle Golf s General Manager meetings. I will keep you updated with any important information / changes. Although I am a little sad to relinquish the position, I am very excited to announce Eagle Brook C.C. s new Head Golf Professional. Ryan Buckland, PGA comes to us from Stone Bridge C.C., and will officially join the Eagle Brook Family on March 3 rd. We were all very impressed with Ryan s qualifications and private club experience, and he blew us away during the interview process! I have worked with Ryan during our men s travel team events as well as other Illinois PGA section meetings and events. I am confident that Ryan s extensive experience in Member service, event management, instruction, and development programs, will help him to be successful at EBCC. I ask that you please provide the same warm welcome and support that you provided to me when I came to Eagle Brook in 2007 as the new Head Professional. I plan to work closely with Ryan to ensure a smooth transition and continue to provide a high level experience in all areas of the golf operation. Please see the from the golf shop portion of the talon to see Ryan Buckland s short Bio. Be on the lookout for an exciting and new website experience on the Eagle Brook website, which will provide a more user-friendly experience, not to mention an updated look!! The 2015 Member Tournament book will be available on the club s website along with hard copy versions available at the club. Message from the Superintendent - Greg Johnson 630-208-0211 gjohnson@eaglebrookclub.com MARCH 2015 TALON 2015 has started off a bit slower than I would like. February has been very cold challenging all-time temperature records for the month. Thankfully, we have not experienced an abundance of temperature spikes which can be extremely difficult for plants and turf. Rather, the 16-inch blanket of snow we received in January has provided nice insulation and protection. I don t anticipate any turf damage this spring providing this current cold snap doesn t linger more than a couple more weeks. With Arcis /Eagle Golf acquiring 30-something new clubs, corporate headquarters is understandably swamped with their new-found workload. Included in this comes the tasks of opening new accounts for each club, creating operating budgets as well as identifying and addressing capital needs. Patience is a word I ve adopted recently and quite frankly still trying to wrap my head around. Once these hurdles are crossed, we ll be off and running. What we have been able to do, we have done. The following list identifies most of the amenities we ve refurbished this winter: Driving range tee dividers Out of bounds stakes Hazard stakes Cart traffic bollards CDGA tee plates Bunker rakes Flagsticks Putting green cups Soil/Seed containers Benches 4

Message from the Superintendent - Greg Johnson 630-208-0211 gjohnson@eaglebrookclub.com Ball washers Garbage containers We are currently working on our custom tee markers and sanding/painting the benches that sit in front of the clubhouse. Following that we ll paint the walls and possibly the floor in the maintenance building. We ll have to play a little catch-up with our equipment repair as we wait for approval on accounts for parts. Removing our inventory of dead ash trees is a top priority as soon as I get the thumbs up. When things start rocking and rolling, we ll be ready! Greg Johnson Regional Golf Course Superintendent

Message from the Membership Director Derek Weber dweber@eaglebrookclub.com From the Membership Desk I am incredibly excited to be here and want to really make a difference for all the current and future members that will be joining our family. I am coming here from the Kane County Cougars where I did group sales for the last three and a half years. I will bring member service focus, fresh ideas and a constant effort to improve and grow the Eagle Brook member experience. I have already had the pleasure of meeting some of you and I look forward to meeting all of you as the weather starts to turn and we head into spring. A little background of who I am. I was born and raised in Kansas City and received my Bachelor s Degree from the University of Kansas. I grew up playing baseball and golf because of health issues those were the only two sports doctors would let me play. The passion for both sports carried over into my professional career and led me here. At the University of Kansas is where I was lucky enough to meet my wonderful wife. We just celebrated our 6 th year of marriage and the birth of our first child. Bryce will be 6 months old in March. After working for multiple sports teams in the Kansas City area we decided to relocate to the Chicago area where my wife was born. We love the area and are happy to call it our home. I am currently getting to know the Eagle Brook way and sorting through a lot of information to make Eagle Brook the best I can for current and future members. I look forward to having a great 2015! All the best to you and your family, Derek Weber Director of Membership *Photos from the Member Cocktail party 7

Message from the Golf Pro - Ryan Buckland PGA 630-943-9015 rbuckland@eaglebrookclub.com Dear Eagle Brook Members, My name is Ryan Buckland and I am your new Head Golf Professional. I was raised in Naperville, with the exception of three years that my family lived in Lexington, Kentucky. It was during my time in Kentucky that I fell in love with the game of golf. I fondly remember my mother dropping me of at Tates Creek Golf Course at 7:00 am, to be picked up when the sun went down. I knew at that point that I wanted golf to be a part of my life. I attended the University of Iowa, where I met and fell for my wife, Rebecca. After some time in our relationship, she asked me a common question asked to most young adults, What do you want to do for the rest of your life. My response was, I always dreamed of being a Head Golf Professional. It was not long before we moved to a suburb of Orlando, Florida to start me on that path. I attended and graduated from San Diego Golf Academy (now The Golf Academy of America). At the same time I began my career as an Outside Service Attendant at Magnolia Plantation Golf Club. I am grateful for the experience of starting in this career outside and being able to fully understand the service aspect of the profession. Within months, I was promoted to work inside the Golf Shop. I advanced in my career throughout my schooling and worked at two other facilities, ending up as the 1 st Assistant Golf Professional at Sweetwater Golf & Country Club in Longwood, Florida. A few years later, my wife and I were looking to return to the Chicagoland area to be closer to family and to extend it with a child (Ellie). I was offered the 1 st Assistant Golf Professional position at Stonebridge Country Club in 2006, which I gratefully accepted. It was at Stonebridge were I attained my PGA Class A status and learned under Head Golf Professional, Kevin Wenstrup. During my tenure at Stonebridge, I led all tournament operations, women s programs, junior programs, and merchandising. I have always been a customer service oriented professional and I look forward to carrying on this passion with you. It is a great honor that I am the PGA Head Golf Professional at Eagle Brook Country Club. I am looking forward to a fun year at Eagle Brook and I am genuinely excited to meet and get to know each of you in the coming months. Ryan Buckland, PGA rbuckland@eaglebrookclub.com 12
