St. Anthony sports Boosters Softball Association (SABSA) Minutes 2016, September 28 St. Anthony Community Center CS9 6:30 PM Call to Order: President Al Bates called the meeting to order at 6:40 pm. Attendees: Al Bates, Jerry Welch, Scott McCleary, Danielle Bogucki, Rossi Cannon, Teresa Turner, Kirsten Stendahl, Pat Clark, Natalie Dougherty Meeting Ending Goal: Al shared a goal of ending the meeting around 8:30 pm, and noted that this is a SABSA meeting, and Fall Ball issues may be discussed in an open forum with the HDC Fall Ball Coordinator after the SABSA Meeting has concluded. Approval of the Prior Meetings Minutes: Jerry moved, Scott seconded to approve the minutes from the August 24, 2016 meeting. Motion passed. Treasurer s Report: Al shared that as of August 31, the bank balance with the Boosters Treasurer is $15,516.40. Al presented a Summary Actual vs. Budget report, noting that not all expenses have been paid yet, and that we will be purchasing some more equipment. Preliminary results per the report showed a gain on the year of $6,656.04 vs. a budgeted loss of $875.16. Al cited fabulous fundraising & spirit wear income and a player population weighted towards the younger groups as being the primary reasons for the positive financial picture. President s Update: Al again summarized the roles of SABSA (Spring/Summer Softball for 6U-14U and related in-season activities) and the Huskies Diamond Club (Spring/Summer Softball for 16U-18U, all Fall and Dome Ball, and other related activities not under SABSA auspices). Al reported he had followed up on this understanding with Boosters President Tom Kuykendall, and HDC President Don Siggelkow, and confirmed that the SABSA and HDC roles as explained are correct, and that the roles should not be mixed. Al brought the message from the Boosters Meeting of September 14 that there was a bit of concern about how much money the Boosters (in total) has accumulated, and the suggestion that if any Sport had a reason to spend money before the end of the year, they were encouraged to do so.

Player & Coach Development Update - Al: Pitcher Clinics Reminder that on Monday nights in Columbia Heights, beginning November 9, there is an Open Gym staffed at the Hylander Center. Interested Pitchers would be welcome. Al will follow-up with an email to the 10U teams. We discussed interest in a Winter Break Pitching Clinic run by Coach Stan Waldhauser: should we pursue this? Consensus was yes, especially for younger Pitchers. Catcher Clinics William Timmons coordinated some Catcher Clinics, with 8U Player Victoria Knight s older sister (a catcher) assisting. These were aimed primarily at 10Us and received a good turnout.. We discussed interest in more Catcher Clinics, and confirmed our interest, including for 12Us and 14Us. Scott noted there is a MFA Catching Clinic on Sunday nights in Brooklyn Park. We decided to pursue a Clinic with MFA, in the February time frame. Jerry moved, Scott seconded, to rebate 50% of the cost of sessions attended by SABSA players. Motion passed. Hitting Clinics/Skills Clinics Consensus was to pursue getting the Winter Skills Clinics in the SAVHS Gyms again this coming January. Danielle volunteered to work with MFA on getting this set up. Parent Survey of Coaches Dirk & Danielle met to kick this off. Dirk was unable to attend the meeting, so no follow-up report was available. Coordinators Updates: Equipment Al: o Need to finish accounting for return of Catcher gear. We ll do a complete inventory after Fall Ball. o Returns from Fall Ball have started. o We discussed Equipment needs. Interest was expressed in: Smaller Shinguards for 8U Restricted Flight/Anywhere Balls (good for softtoss & learning to catch pop-ups) Catcher Gear! Want to have 2 sets/team 10U s Chest Protectors are small Portable nets preferably 5 x 8, collapsible, to replace Easton pop-ups Bats, especially for 12U, at a higher quality level Extension Cord for the Pitching Machine on C1 Wheel Kit for the Pitching Machine on C1

Fields o Thanks, Kirsten for coordinating Fall Ball field times for HDC teams! o Need to recruit a volunteer for next year, preferably one parent for both Baseball and Softball. Danielle will talk to Jesse Kiemele, after which Al will talk to Joe Wax. o We should solicit volunteers maybe through Village People o Discussion as to whether we should buy some plugs for the fields. Consensus was yes. Spirit Wear Danielle: o There was some interest expressed in doing a Fall/Winter Spirit Wear offering. Can we do this thru Ngin with a couple of items? Al will look into how Baseball does this. Umpires o In response to our need to recruit a volunteer for next year, Dirk had said he would do it if nobody else would. Further discussion was tabled to the next meeting. Online Store Taho Sports Al/Jess Rengstorf: o Nothing to report. Uniforms Al/Jess: o Uniforms were delivered for the new Fall Ball players. o We purchased 8U Fall Ball Coach Andrew Kagol a shirt, in anticipation he will return to Coach 8U in 2017. Community All-Star Weekend Update Jerry: o 10 STA Players attended. Jerry held some practices, with pretty good turnout, getting good help from JR Baumann, Sean Christy, Jeff Peterson, Kerry Kosik, & Aaron Rosha. All age levels practiced together, along with 14U Players. The girls seemed to enjoy it. Thanks to all who helped! Jerry reports the ASW was a good experience for all players & coaches, and highly recommends taking advantage of any such opportunities again in the future. HDC Liaison Update Scott: The HDC is talking on doing some improvements on C1 around Home Plate, the Pitching Circle, some drainage improvement and a warm-up pitching area. October 15 is Field Cleanup day for C1. Don Siggelkow is reportedly pursuing getting the C1 outfield fence made permanent.

Fundraising Al/Kirsten: 2016 was a great fundraising year, with $2,598 coming from fundraising & Spirit Wear/Clothing sales. We decided to forgo an opportunity with selling poinsettias around the holidays. For 2017, we would like to repeat fundraising with Jersey Mike s, and the joint effort with the HDC/Unofficial. Scott reported the HDC is working with the Unofficial, would like to have that fundraiser earlier in the year. For 2017, we would also like to put Spirit Wear on Ngin. o Al will get Danielle the contact information necessary to start that process. 8U 2016 Season Follow-up Al: Al will initiate follow-up after the Fall Ball work is done. Other Business: Researching the Bylaws and a Bylaws discussion was tabled to the next meeting. o Specifically, we are looking to address issues surrounding the positions of VP, Treasurer, Secretary, and HDC Liaison before the next election. o There was consensus that the Treasurer should be a Board Member position. o There was discussion about making the Director of Evaluations be a non-voting, exofficio member, and making the VP a separate Board Member position. o We look to these discussions to be the main body of the next meeting. Calendar Development Al would like to develop a Calendar as a tool to hang on the Website for what should happen when. Al will send out an email asking for input. Electricity at Wilshire Park Danielle will follow-up further and get costs of various options for running electricity to/near the field at Wilshire Park. Meeting Location we discussed CC site for meetings, and agreed to hold the next meeting at the CC also. There was discussion of the definition of the Liaisons between SABSA & the HDC. Al will talk to Don Siggelkow about this. Can we get an effort going to write up Position Descriptions/Duties? Discussion to be continued.

Next meeting: The next meeting will be Wednesday, October 12 at 6:30 pm at the Community Center, room CS9 (assuming our request is approved). Meeting adjourned: The meeting adjourned at 8:25 pm. Respectfully submitted, Al Bates, President
