The July 2015 MOOSE PRINT OF TRACY MOOSE LODGE 2283 LOCATION: 35 E. 6th Street, Tracy, CA 95376 (209) 835-4366 Mail: PO Box 1023, Tracy, CA 95378 WOTM Chapter 1720 Visit us at http://lodge2283.moosepages.org/ Email us at: tracymoose2283@sbcglobal.net LODGE OPENS AT: MON-SAT 4 PM; SUNDAY 9 AM The Declaration of Independence Happy 4 th of July We will be open on July 4 th from 1pm-6pm for a Potluck. Grill will be available for your cooking pleasure. What s going on at the Moose? We are now selling split champagne for $3.50. The men s fashion show was canceled for lack of participation. Unfortunately, many members were not available on June 27 th. For Moose Local Scholarship, Please see Erick for more information. Members you are always welcome to the General Meeting. It s scheduled every 4 th Wednesday of the month. We are trying to raise $2000 to show Moose International that we are serious about receiving a grant from them to help repair our bricks that are falling apart. This is very important, if you want to continue to have this lodger, this building needs to be modified to be structurally sound. We will be having fundraisers and collection boxes to help meet our goal and try and secure these funds from Moose International. We our counting on our members to support this cause. Mark these dates on your calendar; 07/03 Friday Dinner We have no volunteers and since it will be the 4 th of July weekend, there will not be a dinner unless someone volunteers, check the board. 07/10 WOTM Dinner Chicken Fried Steak Dinner 07/11 Black Oak Casino Bus Trip - $25 per person leave 9am-6pm See Alex 07/12 Bingo 2PM 07/17 Mike s Steak or Salmon Dinner (Notice: Music in the park Taste of Country) Continued on page 2 We celebrate American Independence Day on the Fourth of July every year. We think of July 4, 1776, as a day that represents the Declaration of Independence and the birth of the United States of America as an independent nation. But July 4, 1776 wasn't the day that the Continental Congress decided to declare independence (they did that on July 2, 1776). It wasn t the day we started the American Revolution either (that had happened back in April 1775). And it wasn't the day Thomas Jefferson wrote the first draft of the Declaration of Independence (that was in June 1776). Or the date on which the Declaration was delivered to Great Britain (that didn't happen until November 1776). Or the date it was signed (that was August 2, 1776). So what did happen on July 4, 1776? The Continental Congress approved the final wording of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. They'd been working on it for a couple of days after the draft was submitted on July 2nd and finally agreed on all of the edits and changes.
