Hutt Middle Schl Cheerleading Cnstitutin 2018-2019 General Infrmatin This cnstitutin has been prepared t make parents and students fully aware f what is required frm The Hutt Middle Schl Cheerleaders. Any successful prgram must have the supprt and cperatin f all parents and students invlved in rder t prvide students with the challenging and rewarding experience that cheerleading has t ffer. The regulatins in this cnstitutin are t be kept and fllwed by the students serving as cheerleaders. Parents shuld als be familiar with the bligatins, rules, cst and demands f the cheerleading prgram. What is HMS Cheerleading? HMS Cheerleading is the student grup that supprts all ther student grups. The purpse f the rganizatin is t: - prmte participatin in and unify supprt fr the athletic teams and the student bdy - t be psitive rle mdels in and ut f the classrm - t create individuals wh lead by example and create a psitive atmsphere fr HMS - t develp a psitive relatinship amng the schls f the district - t help maintain and strengthen students abilities and endurance thrugh cnditining, flexibility, and gymnastics training Thrugh the develpment f leadership, cperatin, self-discipline, teamwrk and sprtsmanship in each individual member, the rganizatin shall fulfill its purpse fr the benefits f the schl, its students and the cmmunity. ELECTION PROCESS Prir t Tryuts Eligibility - Parents must have attended ONE f the scheduled infrmatin meetings prir t tryuts Thursday, February 15th r Tuesday, February 20th at 6:30 - Students d nt need t be passing all classes at the time f tryuts. Hwever nce applicants make the squad, they must maintain a minimum f a 70 6-weeks average in all classes. - Returning members must have all balances paid frm mney wed t the HMS cheer accunt, including fundraisers. - Returning members must have nt been previusly dismissed frm them squad. Submit All Paperwrk t the Frnt ffice, Cach Gilley r Cach Trujill by Thursday, February 28th. Parent / Cheerleader Acknwledgement & Agreement Student Infrmatin Sheet Hutt ISD Medical Release Frm Physical - Accrding t UIL rules, all participants must btain an athletic physical. - Hwever, Hutt ISD requires that all physicals fr the 2018-2019 schl take place after May 1 st. - Current physical examinatin must be signed by a licensed physician. - HMS Cheerleading will use the Physical & Release f Liability system Rank One. Mre infrmatin regarding this system will be given at the first parent meeting. Tryut Clinic (March 5th-7th). - Each student must attend the try-ut clinics which will be cnducted after schl (March 5th-7th). The clinic will be held in the HMS Gym frm 4:15-5:45. - Please wear athletic attire. - Cntestants will be taught the fundamentals f jumps and mtin technique, a chant and a dance. Cntestants will als be given the pprtunity t practice their tumbling skills. - Schl authrities will exercise reasnable cautin t avid injury. The schl, cach, r administratin assumes n financial bligatin fr any injury that might ccur and cannt be held liable. Tryuts (March 8 th ) - Cntestants shuld arrive at the HMS Gym by 4:15pm - Cntestants shuld wear a plain white t-shirt, black shrts and hair in a high pnytail (ribbn/bw suggested but ptinal).

- All cntestants must be in attendance thrugh the duratin f the tryut. All effrts will be made t expedite the tryut prcess. Hwever, tryuts may end as early as 6:00 and as late as 8:00 (depending upn the number f applicants). Yu may want t have a snack with yu during the tryut prcess. Scres will be runded t a whle number. Cheer candidates are respnsible fr btaining their reprt card with semester grades. The reprt card must be prvided t the caches with registratin frm packet. Can be printed frm Family Access (skyward.) Semester Cre Class Grade Average (based n semester 1): 90-100 15 pints 80-89 10 pints 70-79 5 pints Belw 70 0 pints Teacher Recmmendatins - Each applicant will be required t give each ne f their cre teachers a teacher evaluatin frm attached t this packet. - Teacher Recmmendatins will nt be part f tryut scre, but culd be used in making a final decisin. Results - Results will be psted n the HMS Cheer Webpage n Friday, March 9 th after 4:30pm. - The ttal number f members selected will range frm 16 t 30 members and will fall alng the natural break in scres with abut 5 true alternates t cmpetitin. Candidates will be gruped fr tryuts accrding t grade level if pssible. - The caches and administratin will have the final determinatin f the number f 6 th, 7 th & 8 th grade cheerleaders wh make the squad. - Parents will be allwed t see nly their child s scres by appintment. Tryut results are final.

Being an HMS Cheerleader Duties and Respnsibilities - A cheerleader will serve the day f electin thrugh the last day f the fllwing schl year. - Cheerleaders are respnsible fr generating psitive crwd respnse and cnduct at all schl events. - Cheerleaders are required t attend all practices, camps, clinics, perfrmances, etc. Missed practices r events will result in cnsequences which may include cnditining. Sme required cheerleader activities may ccur during the summer and n weekends. - All cheerleaders must be present and prepared fr pre-game activities and pst game cleanup. - All cheerleaders must be present fr the duratin f a practice, perfrmance r event unless therwise arranged with the cach. - Cheerleaders must be present fr at least half the required schl day in rder t participate in an activity n that day. - Members are required t participate in fundraising pprtunities that may benefit themselves and/r the team. (schl dances, car washes, spnsrships, and snap-raise pssibly mre.) - cheerleaders are required t learn material n their wn. Cheer material is fund n website. Financial Obligatin - Each cheerleader is required t purchase their wn unifrm, accessries and pay fr camp. - Hutt ISD nw accepts credit cards thrugh ur district web stre - The csts vary and are specified belw: Returning Cheerleaders Fr returning members, this cst includes ($905): a. Skirt ($80.00) b. Camp Clthes (3 shirts & bws $60) c. NCA Camp ($415) d. Chregraphy/Cmpetitin Fees ($350) Payment Optin (cash, check r credit card): March 20th $200 April 17th $200 May 15th $78 May 31st $77 Fees fr Camp, Practice Clthes, and Unifrm must be paid May 5 th. Returning members wh are missing r need t replace parts f their unifrm (bag, shes, warm-ups, bdy liner, unifrm tp, spanx, shrts etc.) must d s. (We are using the same practice shrts as last year.) Shes ($49.00) Payment Optin (cash, check r credit card): March 20th - $400 due at first Parent meeting April 17th - $137 May 15th - $137 May 31st - $136 Fees fr Camp, Practice Clthes, and Unifrm must be paid May 5 th. - Payments may nly be refunded if the rder has nt been placed. - If payment is nt made r cheerleader des nt attend the initial fitting, the athlete frfeits their psitin n the squad. We will assume the student is n lnger interested in being part f the cheerleading rganizatin (this ges fr returning cheerleaders als). - If the cheerleader has nt cmpleted all payments by camp, they will nt receive their unifrm r camp wear until balance is paid. - If special payment arrangements are needed, please speak with Cach Gilley. - Failure t pay fr the unifrm rdered and camp by the student by this day will result in remval frm the squad and all related cheerleading activities. Optinal Purchases - Varsity Cheer Shes $50 - Extra Blmers $30 - Extra Camp T-shirts $10 each - Additinal Practice Shrts $25 each - Shes $49.00 Appearance - The cheerleader will dress apprpriately at all times. This includes the academic schl hurs, practice sessins and game-day unifrm. Apprpriate dress fr schl: The student will fllw the Dress Cde that is utlined by the Hutt Middle Schl Handbk. Apprpriate dress fr practice: The student will wear T-shirts, shrts cnducive fr physical fitness activity, scks, cheer shes and hair shuld be up & ut f the face. Apprpriate dress fr events: The student will wear their unifrm t all games. Fr girls, this includes the shell tp, skirt, blmers, n-shw scks, bw and cheer shes. Apprpriate make-up, nly clear fingernail plish, n jewelry, r bdy art will be allwed. Fr bys, this includes unifrm tp, pants & clean shes. - Participatin in any event requires members t be in cmplete unifrm. Unifrms are wrn nly at apprved times. The student must replace any part f the unifrm that is damaged r lst. If a cheerleader refuses t wear a unifrm because it is damaged r des nt fit prperly, he/she may be suspended frm the activity - Cheer attire is t be wrn by HMS cheerleaders nly. N friends.

Behavir / Cnduct - HMS Cheerleaders are expected t be well-behaved and psitive rle mdels in and ut f the classrm at all times. The HMS Cheerleaders are quite ften the greatest leaders within the schl and ther students lk t them fr guidance. - Cheerleaders must cmply with the HMS Handbk, HMS Cheerleader Cnstitutin, UIL rules, and HISD Cde f Cnduct. - Cheerleaders shuld never make dergatry remarks abut the schl, schl fficials, r ther schl representatives. Disciplinary actin will be taken with any f the abve infractins. - Cheerleaders are nt t carry n cnversatins with peple in the stands during a game r event in which they are cheering. Disciplinary Actin Cheerleaders must cmply with all expectatins which are written and verbally addressed by the caches and administratin. Nn-cmpliance will result in cnsequences t be determined by the caches and/r administratin. Members that d nt cmply with set expectatins may be subject t suspensin r pssible terminatin. Each cheerleader will be respnsible fr infrming their parents/guardians f any warnings they may receive. Absences (excused and unexcused) Cheerleading is a team sprt unlike any ther. The entire squad suffers every time a cheerleader misses practice r event. Cach(es) must be infrmed if yur cheerleader will miss a practice r event Members wh miss a practice will be sat ut f a perfrmance until missed practice is made-up. Cnditining rutines will be implemented t allw cheerleaders t make up practice. Members wh miss a perfrmance may be placed n suspensin. 3 unexcused absences frm practice will result in being suspended frm a game r team activity. We nly wrk with ther schl related cnflicts. These need t be cmmunicated with the cach 2 weeks in advance t be cnsidered excused. Outside f schl events will be cnsidered unexcused, but still need t be cmmunicated with well in advance. Only 2 absences will be allwed, unexcused, frm Nvember 1 st thrugh the end f the cmpetitive cheer seasn r they may be wrked ut f the cmpetitive rutines. Tw tardies will be credited as ne unexcused absence. 15 minutes tardy will be cunted as an absence. EXCEPTION: A medical r family emergency is defined as an illness in the family that requires immediate medical care r hspitalizatin (dctrs nte is required), r a death in the family. Nn-emergency dctr r dental appintments that are scheduled during a cheerleading event will NOT be excused and may be subject t cnsequences as determined by the cach(es). Level 1 Minr Offenses The fllwing levels utline discipline infractins and pssible cnsequences. All discipline is designed t be crrective in nature. After 3 ffenses, cheerleaders may be suspended frm event r activity Cheerleaders wh are suspended must still attend practices & games, but may nt participate Level I (these infractins d nt incur strikes): Immediate reminders: The cheer cach will determine the reminder and cnsequence at the time f the infractin. Cnsequences fr Level 1 behavirs may result in reminders, physical cnditining, r suspensin fr all r part f a game r event. Examples include (but are nt limited t): Incrrect practice utfit Late t practice Chewing gum during a practice r game

Wearing jewelry r inapprpriate nail plish during any cheerleading activity. Failure t have prper unifrm r equipment including siled r dirty unifrms. Eating during a scheduled athletic event. (Eat befre r after an event; exceptins: medical necessity). Pr perfrmance due t lack f effrt. Minr disrespect, disruptive r ff-task behavir. Sitting in the stands in unifrm during an athletic functin. Other infractins deemed inapprpriate by the spnsr/administratin Level 2 Majr Offenses (these infractins incur strikes): - The cheer caches will determine if a strike is warranted by the cheerleader s behavir. Strikes may result in the same cnsequences as a Level I infractin, alng with the strike itself as well as suspensin frm an event. Parents will be ntified f strikes via phne call r email. - 3 strikes will result in remval frm the squad. Cheerleaders wh are suspended must still attend practices & games, but may nt participate Level 2 ffenses include but are nt limited t: 3 Level 1 Offenses per 6 weeks perid An unexcused absence frm a game, public appearance r event Failure t cmmunicate missed practices. Planned absences such as schl related events must be cmmunicated with 2 week in advance, nt the day f. Any ffice referrals Failing t maintain a passing 6-weeks average in any class (passing is 70 and abve) The cheerleader will be ineligible t participate until they are passing all classes n their 3-week prgress reprt r next 6-week reprt card. Academic Dishnesty Any actin deemed t reflect prly n the squad as a whle Level 3 Extreme Offenses (Remval frm the team): Cheerleaders will be immediately remved frm the squad with any Level 3 Offenses Parents will be ntified f such ffenses and a meeting may be set up at the parent s request. Cmmunicatin - The success f any rganizatin is heavily dependant upn its ability t cmmunicate. - Email will be the primary surce f cmmunicatin. Parents are required t have an up-t-date email address that is checked at least n a weekly basis. COMPETITION SQUAD A cmpetitin squad will be frmed and cheerleaders are required t participate. Caches and/r administratin can terminate the cmpetitin squad at any pint in the seasn fr any reasn. If fr sme reasn the chice t nt cmpete has been made, parents & cheerleaders will be ntified as sn as pssible. - All cheerleaders MUST be able t fulfill the financial bligatin t attend. - This amunt may be in additin t the regular squad requirements and culd be significant. Hwever, every attempt will be made t cver any additinal csts by fundraising. - Fees that wuld need t be cvered may include htel stay, cmpetitin entry fee and cmpetitin rutine csts. Fees may als need t include the usage f an utside facility Special Situatins 1. If at anytime the caches r administratin feel the need t alter any part f the cnstitutin fr the gd f the rganizatin, he/she may d s withut prir ntice r discussin. 2. The cach(es) and administratin will deal with any special situatins that may arise and are nt specifically addressed in this cnstitutin n an individual basis. Pht and Vide Release 1. Hutt Middle Schl and Hutt ISD may use any vide r phtgraph taken f the cheerleaders at schl, camp, practice sessin, cmpetitin r ther Hutt ISD related event. 2. These vides r phtgraphs may be used fr infrmative purpses fr future HMS cheerleaders and may be placed nt the HMS Cheer r HISD website. 3. N fees r ryalties will be paid t the individual cheerleader r family member fr the use f such phtgraphs r vides. 4. All phtgraphs & vides will becme the prperty f Hutt ISD.
