With colder temps here, so is the need for new green covers. Our old ones are heavy, torn (which caused damage to a few greens last year), and time consuming to put on and off. Todd Krauser, Eddie Craven and Metro Appliances stepped up to purchase new ones that are lighter and easier to maneuver. A huge thank you to them, the club would not be where we are without the help and donations of our members. When you see Todd and Eddie, please make a point to say thank you to them. Also, I want to say thank you to Gib Carpenter for helping in the office the last few weeks. Gib volunteers his time and energy to help while we are transitioning. I know the staff and membership are grateful for him. September was not the best month for us, but we are still on budget. I urge each of you to support the club, especially the next few months. The winter is always hard on us, but I know this membership will help and make the end of the year great. Remember, we 2953 are open for dinner services on Saturdays. Bill and his staff have done a great job with food and drink specials. If we will be closed due to a function, he will let you all know. Stop by or get an order to go. I hope you all have a great November, a month to be thankful. See you all at the club! Brad Frederiksen President Maumelle Country Club S AVE T H E DATE... Page 3 Maumelle Country Club November 2018 T U R F TALK Well with Fall in full swing and cool weather has arrived, I m not sure about everyone else, but me personally I m ready for summer. The turfgrass crew has winter gear out and prepping for some winter projects. We will be removing dead trees on several holes, managing our limbs and debris with chipper and logsplitter. Also planning on addressing drainage issue on the front of 8 green is high on our list and addressing some irrigation issues. This past month we were fortunate to have golf course architect Steve Wolfard visit for a day. Steve was lead course designer for 13 years with Jack Nicklaus and presently works with DA Weibring on several projects and has his own Architect firm. I worked with Steve on many projects and developed a friendship with him over the years and consider him one of the best. He was generous enough to visit and help us with preliminary planning of a long term golf course improvement plan. He had some great ideas and great input that was much appreciated that will help us keep improving in the future. Ultimately the members of MCC must prioritize the golf course needs, ie. bunker renovation, irrigation upgrade, state of our greens, etc.. With that said, my job and the greens committee will be looking to educate and inform you the members what the needs of the course are and what options or directions we need to take to keep our course improving and functioning right and to help the members prioritize and make good decisions. Lastly, some other big news.. Metro Appliances has gone way out of their way again to make MCC better by purchasing brand new covers. This is a huge capital improvement expenditure that will benefit the club and course for the next 15 to 20 yrs. The covers are light weight and durable, that will save us in labor and also allow more golf time. I hope each member understands the significance of this kind contribution and will personally thank Todd Krauser and Eddie Craven for what they do for our course. Thank you all for reading and remember to fix your ball marks and fill those divots. See you On the Course REMINDER The Club will be closed on Thursday, November 22rd. Reminder! Standard Time begins on Sunday, November 4 th. Remember to turn those clocks back so you get that extra hour of 3361 rest. H O L E IN ONE CONGRATULATIONS!
