Prior to this four-game losing streak, the Cubs had won seven times during a nine-game homestand, May 16-25 that home stretch had followed a 2-7 spell from May 5-14 the team had won 10 of 15 games from April 18-May 4. Chicago is 9-6-1 in 16 series thus far the club won six of its first seven series to begin a season for just the fifth time since 1916 the team also turned the trick in 1932, 1938, 1995 and 2016. The Cubs have a 15-11 record within their division and are 10-14 outside of the division the Cubs are 24-20 vs. the N.L. and 1-5 vs. the A.L. this year. Following this series, the Cubs will enjoy Thursday off before starting a 10-game homestand with the first of three games against the Cardinals the Marlins (three games starting next Monday) and the Rockies (four games starting June 8) will follow at the Friendly Confines. UNFAMILIAR FACE: Tonight already marks the 11th time this season Chicago goes up against a starting pitcher who has never faced an active Cubs player in the majors, as San Diego s Dinelson Lamet toes the rubber the Cubs are 4-6 in the first 10 instances this season, including May 22 s 6-4 setback against the Giants Ty Blach (7.0 IP, 3 ER). GETTING ON BASE: The Cubs yesterday drew a season-high tying 10 walks, lifting their team on-base percentage to.327 that s a whopping 89-points higher than their.238 team batting average, the largest differential between on-base percentage and batting average for any team in the majors (Detroit is second with a.327 OBP and a.242 average, good for a difference of 85 points). Overall, Chicago s.327 on-base percentage this season ranks sixth in the N.L., but its.238 average is 13th.
