The 2009 NYSAISAA Girls Field Hockey Tournament and Selection Committee members are listed above. Declaration of Intent to Participate: Each interested member school must declare whether or not it desires to enter the Tournament. A declaration is a binding commitment to compete. Deadline Date for Declaration of Intent and Entry Fee: NYSAISAA member schools who desire to participate in the 2009 NYSAISAA Field Hockey Tournament must: Send by fax, the enclosed Declaration of Intent Form no later than Thursday, October 15, 2009, to Bob Annunziata, Athletic Director, Horace Mann School, (718) 796-6271. Deadline Date for Team Roster Form and Score Reporting Form Submit Electronically from the NYSAIS Website no later than Wednesday, October 28, 2009 the Team Roster Form and Score Reporting Form with game results through Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Tournament Format: One eight-team bracket will crown an overall NYSAISAA Tournament Champion. The bracket draw will be taken from eight-at-large bids. In the case where the champion of a NYSAISAA recognized school league is not selected as an at-large bid, an out-bracket will be created and a play-in opportunity will be provided. If a league champion has not been declared at the time of the seeding meeting, the play-in opportunity will be voided. The eight selected teams will be seeded #1 - #8, with #1 playing #8, #2 playing #7, #3 playing #6 and #4 playing #5 in the first round with the higher seeded team hosting through the semi-finals. In the case of one play-in game, #8 will play #9. In the case of two play-in games, #8 will play #9, and #7 will play #10. NOTE: The selection committee is sensitive to travel hardships and will make every effort to have western NY schools play each other in the first round without losing the integrity of the seeding process. Additional scheduling accommodations may be made in later rounds. In the case where only one upstate school is selected, that school will be required to travel regardless of seed. Any Game that is rained out during the 1 st or 2 nd round will be re-scheduled to the following day. The championship game will remain as scheduled unless rainouts force earlier games to be played into Sunday. In this case, the championship game will be rescheduled on the next calendar weekday (exclusive of holidays). Tournament Sites: The Selection Committee shall have sole discretion as to the selection of the site(s) for its tournament games. Games will start no later than 2:45 p.m. Play-in (if necessary), 1st round sites and semi-finals will be awarded to high seed upon approval of sites at seeding meeting. Monday s Tournament Championship site will be played at Manhattanville College (TURF), at 11:00 a.m. with a 10:00 a.m. warm-up.
Determination of Participants: At-Large teams will be selected and seeded on the basis of the following criteria: Overall record, head-to-head competition and strength of schedule. The Selection Committee will announce their tournament teams no later than 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2009. Play begins, Thursday, November 5, 2009. (Play-in, if necessary will be played on Wednesday, November 4, 2009). Fees: Each school will be responsible for a tournament fee of $500.00. Checks should be made payable to NYSAISAA, and will be returned in full to those schools not selected to the tournament. All NYSAISAA Championships must be conducted at no expense to the NYSAISAA. Therefore, it is understood that the NYSAISAA is not responsible for any financial loss realized by the tournament. Each one of the schools participating will be responsible for covering any loss in equal amounts. If there is a net profit, the NYSAISAA shall be granted the difference to help offset administrative expense. The ADC shall be responsible for the accounting of expenses for all NYSAISAA team championships. The ADC will make available an accounting report to each participating school at the annual conference. Awards: The NYSAISAA Championship State Plaque will be presented to the overall tournament team champion with 18 individual awards presented to each Champion. A runner-up plaque will be presented to the second place finisher with 18 individual awards presented to each runner-up. Game Officials: The Sport Coordinator will secure officials. Two officials will be used in 1 st & 2 nd rounds. Three officials will be used in championship game. Game Supervision: All schools participating at a NYSAISAA post-season contest must provide a non-coaching school employee for supervision during the game.
Uniform Color Notification: socks. Higher seeded team will wear home white or light jerseys and white or light Rules: Federation rules will govern play. Game Clock: Official time will be kept on field. Game Balls: High seed will supply game balls. Medical Coverage: Higher seeded teams will provide trainers in all rounds other than championship for all NYSAISAA championships. A Certified Athletic Trainer shall be assigned to the Championship game by the Sport Coordinator. ELIGIBILITY: Schools must be in full compliance with NYSAISAA Regulations and Sports Standards. A school using an ineligible player is not eligible for championship participation. Only a full member of NYSAIS is eligible for championship participation. Athletes not listed on the official roster at the seeding meeting are ineligible to participate in post-season tournaments. NOTE: Failure to follow through on a declaration to compete may jeopardize future consideration for post-season play.
