SMLPSA ON TARGET NEWS April 2013 "The right of citizens to bear arms is just one guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against the tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible." Senator Hubert H. Humprey (D-Minnesota) April Edition Volume Four Hello SMLPSA Membership, Wow. It seems like time is really flying again. After a long cold and snowy winter, here we are into the month of April, with trees and grass blooming away and Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner. Club membership again is around 220 members this year with a great mix of active and occasional shooters. A lot of folks have taken advantage of Lifetime Memberships. For the Club, we have purchased a large supply of ammo which we keep on hand for everyone to buy; and we sell that ammo at cost plus shipping and tax. Save yourself the time and expense to drive to the nearest gun store or big box outlet to buy your ammo and take advantage of this supply. We got in another 18,000 rounds of high quality M22 Match Grade target ammo this week so we now have 21,000 rounds on hand. As you know, 22LR ammo is still almost impossible to come by out there and when you do, you can expect to pay anywhere from.18 -.30 cents per round. That is expensive! Our cost to the members is.11 cents per round. We also have plenty of center fire ammo including.223/5.56 for those of you who own AR15 s, and a supply of specialty home defense shotgun ammo as well. Last month the range had some physical building renovations whereas all of the ceiling baffles were either replaced or repaired. In the process we found a disturbing issue at hand. One of the DCJS range users was firing Duty Ammo (hollow point rounds) which were against range policy, and subsequently those rounds penetrated the ceiling baffles, and exited the building through the gable end landing uphill far away from the building. This situation cannot occur and that group will no longer use the range. To prevent anyone from potential injury, the range will have further safety upgrades this month to include lining the gable end of the building with Ballistic Sheets to prevent any round from escaping the building uphill. 1
There will also be a large wooden fence built at the top of the exterior berm to prevent any rounds ricocheting off of the floor, from flying uphill as well. In just a month or so there will be young children wandering around in that area enjoying summer 4-H activities. We must prevent any of them or any guest at the 4-H from being exposed to an errant round traveling outside the building. As soon as we have a schedule for these improvements, we will notify the Club membership of the down time at the range for this to occur. I also want to point out that it is imperative that all members are careful in the placement of targets and their shooting activities. I have personally witnessed members shooting in the league and during the day hit light fixtures above the baffles and cause light tubes to be blown out or damage ballasts in the fixture. We are responsible for damage to the range and we could be charged for repairs. Each one of those fluorescent light bulbs costs $30 and shooting out two of them with one bullet equates to a $100 repair with labor and materials. So let s all be careful folks and do our best to maintain the facility. When it is slow at the range, our Range Officers will be doing regular maintenance to include vacuuming the floors in the live fire area, cleaning the target system tracks from corrosion, and just keeping the general appearance of the range in order. When you use the range (especially the training room) please make sure you put all tables and chairs back and take care of any trash you may create. Lastly, we still have (2) brand new GSG522SD 22LR rifles with collapsible stocks available for sale that I bought at a factory closeout and these rifles are available for an out the door price including tax and shipping and transfer fees of $352.75 which is almost $150 less than you would pay for one of these in a gun store. They are a great rifle and really fun to shoot and with CCI Stinger ammo could be used for home defense. When these are gone there are no more available at this price. Peter A. My Favorite Gun Related Item SnagMag Concealed Magazine Holster Details The newest way to carry a concealed pistol magazine If you choose to carry, you must carry enough ammo to get the job done. After all, it s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. That s why the innovative, patent-pending Snagmag is such a hit among the Gun Digest staff. The Snagmag is an all-new way to carry a spare pistol magazine while carrying concealed -- and it s comfortable, discreet and easy to draw. At first glance, the Snagmag appears to be a pocket knife with a clip. This is ideal for concealed carry situations as it does not draw attention to the fact that you are carrying a magazine. Just a small amount of rearward pressure while drawing the magazine causes the snag to keep the magazine pouch in the pocket while the magazine is drawn quickly and cleanly. And it s available for both left- and right-hand shooters the Right-Handed Shooter version is designed to fit in the left pocket, and vice versa. (Right hand shooters will obviously be holding the gun in the right hand and reloading the magazine with the left hand). Additional benefits: Magazine doesn t fall down deep in the pocket where it is hard to access Keeps debris, coins, keys, etc. from getting stuck in the magazine Easier to conceal than belt-mounted magazine holders or pouches It s always better to have more cartridges -- because there is no such thing as extra ammo! The Gun Digest Store is the ONLY authorized retailer of this great new product, and it s available for a wide variety of makes/models of handguns. Don t be caught short in a defensive situation, get the Snagmag and ensure you ve got the protection you need! Additional Information SKU SNAGMAG Only $33.96 on sale! 5
