PARENTS: We are in need of more Team Managers this year. In order for a maximum number of students to participate in the program, we need additional Team Managers. Please understand that teams are limited to 7 members each, and not all students trying out will be placed on a team. Additionally, we do have a few teams returning intact with students and Team Managers from last year. Please consider Managing or Co-Managing a team this year, and watch your children/students gain life-long team-working skills in creatively solving problems! If you have any questions regarding the program, I d be happy to spend whatever time necessary discussing the opportunity with you. Please phone me at #492-2935 Ext. 3325. Ashwaubenon School District - DI Global Trip Fundraising Options Parents, please read below, select the fundraising option of your choice, sign, and return to Mrs. Meinel. Thank you. DI Participant Phone# Parent Email Parent Name School I will collect a minimum of 10 paper grocery bags full of discarded paper and/or corrugate paper for a Recyclable Paper Drive on 3 different dates throughout the school year and deliver these bags and boxes to Valley View on designated paper drive dates. This is a new fundraising option for DI in 2010-2011! We will raise funds for DI and divert used paper from landfills. The DI program will hold a paper drive on a minimum of 3 different dates this school year. If you select this option, you will be provided with when you will need to collect and bring a minimum of 10 paper grocery bags of paper (newspaper, printer paper, other paper). Corrugated boxes are also acceptable items. Additional information will be provided under separate cover. I will work at Valley View s Ice Cream Social on December 9, 2010 after the Winter Concert. Workers are needed in different areas at the concert to scoop ice cream, serve ice cream, or clean-up the area in the cafeteria. (Maximum 8 workers needed). I will financially "opt out" by writing out a $60 per student contribution check to the "DI Global Activity Fund" and give to my child s DI Team Manager to deposit in the DI Global Activity Fund. I understand that my check needs to be deposited by November 30, 2010. Please keep in mind that it takes a village to raise a child, and the success of the DI family fundraising program is contingent upon the participation of the entire DI community. We ve searched high and low for the most profitable programs that require the least amount of effort. We hope you consider joining us for the win-win paper drives we hold this year. Parent Name (print) Date Signature Phone Number Email The Poinsettia sale fundraiser will be made available and is optional; please indicate if you are interested in participating with this sale in addition to the Paper Drive above. Note, for all students who advance to the Global DI Tournament, additional fundraisers may include Valley View Spring Ice Cream Social and/or an additional paper drive. What is Destination Imagination? Destination ImagiNation, Inc., the world s largest creativity and problem solving organization, inspires participants in all of its programs, to learn the process, art, and skill associated with problem solving. You've heard of spelling bees, quiz bowls, robotics competitions and science fairs. In fact, there is probably a special event for every subject taught at school. Well, Destination ImagiNation is none of those things and all of those things! Destination ImagiNation is a place where kids take what they know and what they are good at and learn to apply it to solve challenges, working together and cooperatively with a team and pushing the limits of imagination to best not their competition, but themselves. Destination ImagiNation is a community-based, school-friendly program that builds participants' creativity, problem solving, and teamwork in enjoyable and meaningful ways. Teams of five to seven members work together to apply creativity, critical thinking and their particular talents to solve a Team Challenge. The Destination ImagiNation Team Challenge is a Challenge that is solved over a period of many weeks. There are five competitive Team Challenges from which teams may choose, each with its own educational focus. Each Team Challenge is designed to be open-ended and solvable in many ways and on many levels. Challenge A: Technical/Mechanical Challenge B: Theater Arts/Science Challenge C: Theater Arts/Fine Arts Challenge D: Theater Arts/Improvisation Challenge E: Structural & Architectural Design There are two parts to the Team Challenge: the Central Challenge and Side Trips. The Central Challenge is a set of required elements that all teams must complete. Side Trips are two additional elements teams create and include in their Presentation. The Destination ImagiNation Instant Challenge is a Challenge teams are asked to solve in a very short period of time at their Tournament, without knowing ahead of time what the Challenge will be. Teams go into a room and are given a Challenge and the materials with which to solve it. They use their thinking-on-their-feet skills to produce a solution, usually in a period of five to eight minutes! Each year teams of five to seven members select one of five competitive Challenges. With the guidance but not help of a Team Manager (who serves as facilitator, not coach), the team creates an action plan and works together to create everything needed for their Presentation.
