7th Grade Parents - SLMS PTA has several PTA Committee Chairperson positions open for the 2017-2018 school year. Middle school PTA is a significantly smaller time commitment than elementary school PTA. This is a great way to get involved at the middle school. The open positions include: Hospitality Committee This person will team up with a partner to host teacher lunches, teacher appreciation, and other similar events through the year. This committee is also responsible for staff birthday cards. We are looking for two or three people for this committee. Dances / Concessions Committee This person will team up with two experienced committee members to plan and organize volunteers and concessions at 2 SLMS dances and a wrestling tournament. Potential other concession opportunities include the Awards Show, Musical, and a Basketball tournament. We are looking for a third person to help lead this committee. Red Ribbon Week Committee This person celebrates Red Ribbon Week at SLMS. This involves organizing candy donations and volunteers for before school and lunch time events during Red Ribbon Week, which is the last week in October. We are looking for one or two people to lead this event. Magazine Committee Co-Chairperson SLMS has a very successful magazine fundraiser each year. PTA arranges for volunteers to count the money and hand out prizes during lunch. We are looking for someone to share the responsibility with our experienced magazine chairperson. Magazine sales generally begin a week after school starts and last 2 ½ to 3 weeks. Mentor Lunch Committee Chairperson- SLMS arranges for a monthly Mentor Lunch during which teachers and staff can spend time getting to know students better and mentoring them. The school arranges for the food. PTA supports this effort by arranging for two volunteers to serve the lunch. In the past, this lunch has been scheduled one Friday each month. We are looking for one or two people to arrange for volunteers and communicate with the staff member in charge of the lunch. If you have questions or if you know of anyone who might be interested, please contact me at gina.harris@joenicsteel.com or 816-305-7603. I hope you choose to join us! Gina Harris SLMS PTA
