CHATUGE GUN CLUB HOSTS THE 5TH ANNUAL GEORGIA SHERIFF'S YOUTH HOMES BENEFIT TRAP SHOOT! The benefit will be held at our range on Friday, June 28, from 8 am - 5 pm. It is sponsored by the Towns County Sheriff's Office, and some members of the gun club, along with Sheriff Clinton and deputies, have been organizing and preparing for this Benefit Trap Shoot for months. Shooters will be shooting at 50 clay targets and will shoot individ-ually or on a team. The cost is only $1 per target. Very nice raffle items that have been donated by the community will be raffled off (one is a room for two stay at the Brasstown Valley Resort!), and there's a 50/50 raffle chance to win some money. Door prizes and lunch will also be available. You can support your club and the Towns County Sheriff's Office by bringing your family and friends out to the range on June 28. The Union County Youth Shotgun Teams will give an especially good show! Last year, Towns Co. came in 5th in the State for raising money for the youth homes. Let's see if we can bump Sheriff Clinton's Office to first place! For information on the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes, contact his office. Left Photo: And the winner for the 2012 Shootist Award is Matt Van Steen! The award Matt is holding was awarded at the Chatuge Gun Club picnic held on June 1 st. All of us wish a hearty congratulations to Matt on a fun job well done!

2012 Shootist Shoot-Off May 18 Art Douville The first annual Shootist Shoot-Off was held on Saturday, May 18. Despite gloomy skies and an occasional shower, 10 shooters, with the support of 15 volunteers, competed for the title of 2012 Shootist of the Year. The field comprised the top 10 shootist point winners for the 2012 shooting season. They were: Matt Van Steen 177 points John Hagan 162 points Jim Vance 92 points Keith McMahan 91 points Randy Thomas 85 points Steve Boatright 79 points Nelson Fagan 74 points Dick Fille 74 points Larry Mongue 71 points Art Douville 68 points The competitors, many of whom excel in individual shooting sports, competed in 6 different shooting disciplines. These matches require the shooter to demonstrate speed and accuracy at varying distances and positions with a rifle, shotgun and handgun. The matches were Cowboy Silhouette, Bowling Pin, Defensive Pistol, Trap, Service Rifle and Pistol, and Benchrest. Points were awarded to each shooter at the completion of each match based on his final standing. First place received 10 points, second place 9 points, third 8 points, etc. At the shoot-off s conclusion, with scores totaled and points awarded, Matt Van Steen, the reigning 2010 and 2011 Shootist, reclaimed the 2012 Shootist Award with a solid 48 points. Art Douville placed second with 43 points, and Steve Boatright claimed third with 38 points. Though the day was about the competitors, the shoot-off would not have been a success without the help of the volunteers. Thanks go to Gene Blackburn, Ed Jones, Artie Delpup, Noble Rhinesmith, Ruby Rhinesmith, Joan Moody, Diane Hamilton, Paul Danner, Carrie Brekke, Joe Piazza, A.T. Sorrel, John Case, Greg Patrick, Dave Clark and Russ Schoetker. Joan Moody, the event photographer, took over 300 photos documenting the day s activities. You can find links to these photos and the match statistics at the Chatuge Gun Club website. Attention Ladies, are you interested in a fun day at the range? This is not an Instructional Shooting Clinic, but a chance for women, with some experience, interested in shooting some of the club Matches to be "Introduced" to the Matches, including but not limited to: Match Rules and Regulations, and HOW the Matches are presented and Shot, and a chance to Practice those skills' BEFORE' engaging in a Club Match, without the scrutiny of male intervention. If you are interested send an email to chatuge@joanmoody.com With your name and phone number. We don't have all the details yet, we need to know if there is enough interest first.
