The Bulldogs are winners of three in a row, opening the outdoor season at 3-0 and now sitting at 8-3 on the year, 1-0 in SEC action, and a perfect 6-0 at home in 2013. Georgiadogs.com will offer live video and live stats on Georgiadogs. com in addition to the Georgia Tennis Live Chat. Admission is free and open to the public. LOOKING AT WILLIAM & MARY: The Tribe will head to Athens after taking on Wake Forest on Sunday, and entered the weekend at 6-5 overall following a 4-3 win over Illinois State on Friday in Williamsburg, Va. William & Mary does not currently have any players ranked in singles or doubles, but is led by John Banks 13 wins while Ben Hoogland has 11. In doubles, the team of Banks and Scott Huang have six wins to lead the squad. Georgia owns a 17-0 record all-time vs. the Tribe, most recently collecting a 6-1 win last season in Athens. LAST TIME OUT: The ninth-ranked Georgia men s tennis team beat the eighthranked Tennessee Volunteers in their SEC opener 4-1 on a cold Friday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on March 1. Georgia captured the doubles point for the ninth time in 11 attempts this season, and carried the momentum into singles by winning the first set in all six matches. Marco Nunez extended Georgia s lead to 2-0 when he defeated the Volunteers Collins 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6. Garrett Brasseaux was next to strike when he defeated Ed Jones at No. 5 by a score of 7-6(7-3), 6-4 to make it 3-0. Tennessee continued to fight, and claimed its first point when 13th-ranked Libietis overcame 42nd-ranked Nathan Pasha 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1. With Georgia up 3-1, 95th-ranked Ben Wagland gutted out a 7-6(8), 6-4 win against 33rdranked Reese to seal it. DIAZ S RECORD WATCH: In his 25th season at the helm, Bulldog head coach Manuel Diaz is just two away from moving into sole possession of the secondmost wins in Southeastern Conference history. Standing with 567 career wins as an SEC head coach, Diaz is one shy of former Kentucky coach Dennis Emery, who retired in 2012 after 30 seasons and 568 victories. In first place all-time is Bulldog legend Dan Magill, who collected an SEC record 706 victories in his 33 seasons from 1955-88. YOUNG PUPS: Georgia has gotten strong play at the outset of the season from the team s freshmen. Rookie Ben Wagland has compiled a 15-5 mark overall and a 7-2 record in dual matches, including a clinch vs. VCU to send Georgia back to National Indoors. Austin Smith is 13-5 overall and also 6-2 in duals, while Nick Wood was out to a 4-1 start before suffering an ankle injury. Marco Nunez won the first three dual matches he played in, snagging one victory each at No. 5 and No. 6 vs. ETSU and Furman, respectively, last week, and adding a quick straight-set win in the 4-1 SEC opening win vs. Ten-

IN THE RANKINGS: Georgia came in at No. 9 in the Feb. 26 edition of the ITA team ranking after being ranked No. 6 for each of the first four polls in 2013 and No. 8 on Feb. 19. With that, the Bulldogs have now been ranked in the top-10 every week since March 29, 2011. Individually, Georgia boasts four players in the singles rankings, including KU Singh (No. 11), Nathan Pasha (No. 42), Hernus Pieters (No. 72), and Ben Wagland (No. 95). In doubles, the team of Wagland and Pieters is No. 6 this week, followed by Pasha and Singh at No. 23 and Pasha and Brasseaux at No. 32. The latter duo is 9-1 on the season and 6-0 in dual matches, recently named to the All-Tournament Team of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at No. 2 doubles. RECAPPING THE FALL: The Georgia men s tennis team s fall season was highlighted by the run of junior Hernus Pieters and freshman Ben Wagland to the doubles final of the ITA National Indoor Championships in New York in November. Earlier in the fall, the duo won the consolation draw of the All American Championships in Tulsa to punch their ticket to Indoors, while sophomore Nathan Pasha won three qualifying matches to reach the singles main draw in Tulsa. Meanwhile, the four Bulldog freshmen played well at the Southern Intercollegiates, Bulldog Scramble, and ITA Southeast Regional as they geared up for their first collegiate dual match seasons. BULLDOGS PICKED TO WIN SEC EAST: A vote of the league s 13 head coaches has selected the sixth-ranked Georgia men s tennis team the early favorite the win the Southeastern Conference s Eastern Division in 2013, the league office announced. The reigning SEC Tournament champions and NCAA quarterfinalists received 65 total points including three first-place votes to place them atop the competitive SEC East, while Ole Miss was picked to win the West as well as the overall conference championship with 74. Tabbed to finish behind Georgia in the East is Tennessee (47), Florida (42), Kentucky (37), Vanderbilt (27), and South Carolina (13). The rest of the West behind the Rebels is Mississippi State (63), Texas A&M (53), Auburn (46), LSU (34), Alabama (22), and Arkansas (16). The preseason poll is a compilation of head coach votes using a 6-5-4-3-2-1 ranking system in the East and 7-6-5-4-3-2-1 in the West, which added Texas A&M this season. The other conference newcomer Missouri does not sponsor men s tennis at the NCAA level. Coaches also selected one conference champion, with each vote counting as one point. NICK WOOD JOINS TEAM EARLY: Georgia men s tennis head coach Manuel Diaz in November announced the signing of Nick Wood, who joined the team in January, a semester early. The Knoxville, Tenn., product was rated the No. 1 player in the South in each of the 12, 14, and 16 age groups, and No. 2 in the 18s. He is currently the No. 11 player in the nation for his age group and is No. 4 in the signing class according to TennisRecruiting.net. Wood s father, Donie, was a tennis player for the University of Arkansas from 1987-90, and still ranks fourth in Razorbacks history for singles winning percentage in a season with a mark of 0.875 in 1988. His mother is Shari Wood and he has two brothers, Matt and Chase. Manuel Diaz begins his 25th season as head coach of the Georgia men s tennis team in 2012-13. VENABLES NAMED VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT: Georgia men s tennis head coach Manuel Diaz has announced the addition of Tristan Venables to the staff for the 2012-13 season as a volunteer coach. Venables attended and played tennis at the University of Denver before earning a bachelor of contemporary arts degree from Edith Cowan University in 2009. While at Denver, he played the No. 1 position
and was named the team s MVP in 1997-98. From 1999-2012, he served as the head coach at Wembley Downs Tennis Club in Perth, Western Australia, which has an enrollment of over 400 members. We re already seeing the benefits of Tristan s work with our team. Venables visited UGA while coaching in 2005, where he met his wife, Jessica, a Georgia graduate.
