Rhino VE CE Bulk Unloader Operator s Card Component Locator SeeFigure1andrefertoTable1. SHOWNINTHE OPEN POSITION 1 3 8 4 7 6 5 Figure 1 Component Locator (Some parts are not shown for clarity.) Item Description Table 1 Major Components 1 Air Motor lockout Valve: When closed, locks out air pressure to the air motor; prevents the pump from stroking but it does not shut off the ram air supply. NOTE: The ram air supply is required to raise and lower the ram when the air is deactivated. Bleeder Stem: Bleeds air from below the follower when a new material drum is loaded into the system. 3 Bleed Valve: The bleed valve is designed for use as a bleed port at the highest point of the pump hydraulic section. This port is used to bleed air from the pump section during initial startup and container changes. 4 Drum In Position Switch: This switch activates when a drum is positioned onto the frame. 5, 6 Blow-off Assembly: The blow-off assembly consists of the blow-off hose (5)and the blow-off stem (6). The blow-off stem connects to the blow-off port on the follower plate. The blow-off hose connects to the blow-off stem. When the blow-off valve is activated, the blow-off stem forces air beneath the bottom of the follower plate and into the container. This pressure forces the container off of the follower. Rhino VE CE Bulk Unloader Operator s Card Item Description Table 1 Major Components (continued) 7 Control Module: SeeFigure. The RAM REGULATOR controls the air supply to the ram. It sets the amount of air pressure going to the top of the ram cylinders which determines the amount of pressure the follower plate exerts on the material. These switches control the ram movement, purge, and blowoff functions: S : The two push buttons located on each side of the control panel activate the downward movement of the ram. Both push buttons must be pressedatthesametimeandheldintomanuallylower the follower into the drum. S RAM UP: This push button controls the upward movement of the ram. It must be pressed and held in to move the ram. Releasing the push button stops the upward movement and places the ram in the Neutral position. During operation, momentarily pressing the RAM UP push button stops the air motor. NOTE: The Neutral position does not mechanically lock the ram. Air pressure remains in the ram cylinders. Small air leaks in the circuit can cause the ram to move. When necessary, use support blocks to prevent the ram from moving. S BLOWOFF: This push button activates the air that goes through a port in the follower and into the drum. The air pressurizes the pail with enough air to raise the follower from the pail. S PURGE: This push button cycles the inactive pump during drum changes for material purging on Automatic Changeover units. 8 Air Motor Regulator: Sets the amount of air pressure going to the air motor which determines the amount of material pressure exiting the bulk unloader. Rhino VE CE Bulk Unloader Operator s Card 3 WARNING S Allow only qualified personnel to perform the following tasks. Follow the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation. S Severe personal injury could result if your hands or fingers are caught between the follower plate and container. Keep your hands clear of this area. S Do not open the bleed valve more than three turns. The bleed valve and material may be forced from the valve body. S Unloader operation is application specific. Procedures for your unloader may be different. If necessary, contact a local Nordson representative for operation procedures specific to your unloader. S When operating the ram controls, it is important to remember that Neutral is not a locked and secured position. The follower plate may drift downward over time. Daily Operation The following paragraphs provide daily operation procedures. Startup 1. Make sure that the air pressure to the system is off.. Perform the following: S Check the unloader to determine if material is leaking past the follower plate. If a follower plate seal is damaged, refer to the Rhino VE Follower Plate Module manual for repair procedures. S Check the amount of material in the container. Replace the container if necessary. Refer to the How to Change a Container section. S Check the solvent chamber fluid levels and fill if necessary. 3. Turn on the input air supply to the unloader. 4. Press and hold in the push buttons atthesametime. Whenthefollowerentersthe container, the pump will start. 5. If required, adjust the air motor regulator to the desired air supply pressure. Temporary Shutdown 1. Press the RAM UP push button to stop the air motor.. Turn off the input air supply to the unloader. Restart After Temporary Shutdown 1. Turn on the input air supply to the unloader.. Press and hold in the push buttons atthesametimetostartthepump. E 01 Nordson Corporation Issued 1/1
4 Rhino VE CE Bulk Unloader Operator s Card How to Change a Container The unloader shown in Figure 3 may have options that your unloader does not have. These procedures include steps for the blowoff option. If you have any questions about this procedure and how it may differ from your unit, contact your Nordson Corporation representative. 1. If operating, stop the pump by momentarily pressing the RAM UP button.. Close the air motor lockout valve (1). 3. Perform the following: a. Remove the bleeder stem () from the bleeder stem fitting (4). b. Connect the blow-off tube (7) to the bleeder stem fitting. c. Connect the blow-off air line (6) to the blow-off tube. 4. Press and hold in the BLOW-OFF and the RAM UP buttons. As the follower exits the container, release the BLOW-OFF button. 5. Raise the elevator until it reaches maximum height, clear of the container. 6. Remove the empty container and center a new, undamaged container under the follower plate. 7. Coat the follower plate seals (5) with a compatible lubricant, if required. 8. Disconnect the blow-off air line (6) from the blow-off tube (7). 9. Remove the blow-off tube (7) from the bleeder stem fitting (4). 10. Press and hold in the buttons. When the follower in-drum sensor activates, the ram will automatically move downward. 11. Allow air to bleed from the bleeder stem fitting (4) as the follower moves downward. When material starts to continuously flow from the bleeder stem fitting, momentarily press the RAM UP button to stop ram movement. 1. Install the bleeder stem (). 13. Press and hold in the buttons. 14. Open the air motor lockout valve (1). 15. Perform one of the following to bleed the remaining air out of the system: S S Bleed the remaining air out through the dispense guns. Or Open the bleed valve (3) no more than three turns. Allow material to flow until it is air-free. Close the bleed valve. Bleed remaining air through dispense guns. E 01 Nordson Corporation
