Let s go fishing, John Fruhmorgen Membership Application and Tournament Entry Form on last page of this newsletter Minutes From Last Meeting APRIL 6, 2018 MINUTES The April meeting of the Fishing & Boating Club was called to order on April 6, 2018 at 6:30 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Commodore Tom Alferes then stated that the purpose of the Club is to promote fishing, boating and good fellowship among all members. The minutes of the March 2nd meeting were accepted on a motion by Tom Casey which was seconded by Janice 2018/2019 Schedule Byland and passed by the members. The Commodore thanked Eric from NOAH for his presentation before the 2018 meeting. Special thanks to all of those who volunteered Nov. 2 Regular dinner meeting at the KCB Days - for assisting in setting up, tearing Dec. 7 Regular dinner meeting down, and helping with the barracuda races and selling Dec. 9 Tucker DeGraw Memorial Boat Parade raffles for the wheel barrow of cheer. Thanks to Cindy Casey for preparing the meal for the end of season dinner dance. A good time was had by all. Dec. 31 New Year s Eve Party with Rick and Dayna 2019 As always, after each meeting there is a home cooked Jan. 4 Regular dinner meeting meal that includes salad, entree and dessert provided by Jan. 17 Clambake Captains Meeting 4PM member volunteers. At this last meeting of the season James Knutson provided the dinner. Thanks to everyone Feb. 1 Regular dinner meeting who helped with the food set up and serving as well as Feb. 18 Clambake the clean up after the meeting. members who oversaw the check in process. The Commodore recognized the Club's past commodores as well as the current members of the Executive Board. The Executive Board is assembling a members' volunteer list. Please see Chet Polk if you haven't volunteered within the last two years and sign up for next season. Remember that you must volunteer in order to maintain your membership. The Club agreed to provide the city with $3,000 to aid in the restoration of the golf course park. $1800 was used to make repairs to the bocce court. The members agreed to grant $3,000 to the recreation committee for ongoing work at the park. The calendar for next season is in the newsletter. Please check the dates for next season's events. Mr. Chris Moonis, City Administrator, then updated the Club on the city's Irma recovery efforts. So far, the city has spent $2.2 million toward the recovery of KCB after Irma. Marble Hall sustained major damage from the surge and as a result it is anticipated that the building will have to be torn down and replaced. The city is looking for outside sources of funding from the state as well as FEMA. Mr. Moonis also provided updates on the state of the Wastewater treatment plant, Sunset Park, rebuilding along the causeway where Sparky's used to be. He then took questions from the audience. Treasurer Rick Buy read the March Treasurer's Report. The Treasurer's report was accepted on a motion by Ken Duffy which was seconded by Ted Fischer and passed by the members. Vice Commodore Joe Schmidt asked Past Commodore Bob Willey if there were any nominations for candidates for the upcoming term of Executive Board members. There being no nominations, Dave Hora made a motion that the CALLING ALL MISTLETOE MINDED CAPTAINS The 2018 Key Colony Beach Christmas Boat Parade will be held on Sunday night, December 9th starting around 6pm. REGISTRATION is FREE and OPEN to ALL BOATERS I n the area. TO REGISTER call or text Ted Fischer @ 302-841-9812 or email him @ ted.fischer1@verizon.net. Awards will be given for Best Boat in Parade, and for over and under 30 ft. classes - Best Boat, Most Spirited, and Best Theme. All participating boat captains and crew are invited to the Award s ceremony immediately following the parade at Key Colony Beach Inn. Sponsored by the KCB Fishing & Boating Club & the KCBCA sitting Board continue in office for another term. The motion was seconded and passed by the members. Membership Secretary Ron Teke explained that the scheduled trip to the Dry Tortugas had to be cancelled due to high winds. He will try to reschedule for next year. Fundraising Chairman Joey Raspe informed the group that the Kid's Fishing Derby will take place on June 13th. 45 local children ages 6-14 will be taken out for a half day of fishing on the Marathon Lady along with adult chaperones, and then lunch at the Key Colony Inn along with raffles, prizes and trophies. Joey wanted to thank Tom and Cindy Casey and the Marathon Power Squadron for their generous donation in the amount of $2,500 for the Derby. We currently have $15,000 set aside for the event. Tournament Director John Fruhmorgen was unable to be at the meeting so Gerry DuBois presented the prize money to the winning anglers. Volunteers will be needed to set tiles and lay sod. Please see Corky if you can help. Ron and Kitty Sutton drew the winning ticket for the 50/50. While they were up at the dais, Vice Commodore Joe Schmidt presented them with a plaque as members of the Year to commemorate all their efforts after Irma in helping to get KCB back on its feet. They were here for the city during and after the hurricane. The meeting then adjourned.
