Nelson Bay Junior Cricket Club The year in review Under 11 s - An absolutely fantastic year for our youngest players. The Division One side were premiers and are likely to be the same for many years to come. The coach and parents all said they should not be in Division One but this is a very talented team and once they learnt to believe in themselves they proved how good they are. They only had the bare 11 but next year could have 12 with Peter Kelly proving he is worthy of a promotion to the top team with outstanding performances in the 11 Whites. Another big season for Brendan Haddad, James Elias improved out of sight, Robbie Pasquale bowled superbly and Hamish Bartlett was good all round. Coach Charlie Elias had plenty of help from Mick Haddad, Carlo Pasquale, Shane Donnelly and Bill Bartlett. Our Division 2 team had 16 players all up for the season and had their share of wins including the last 2 games. Like the Division 3 side, many of the team are eligible for Under 11s again next year when they will be a force to be reckoned with. Bruce Cocking kept the boys going well. In the 3rd Division side, Peter Kelly had a great year as the awards indicate. Most of his team mates can play under 11s for another 2 seasons and there are many great prospects in the team. Their final round win was amazing, except for bowlers. Neil Dombkins did well in his first season as coach. Our lone Under 12 s were regraded into Division 4 which did not help their cricket as they easily won all their games. They probably would have won Division 3 and along the way got a lot more competitive cricket. Lachlan Crisp, Adam Cotterall and Jeffrey Goninan all had great seasons under the guidance of hard working coach Ken Fitzpatrick who was ably assisted by Jason Cross. Well done to the boys and all involved - Minor and Major Premiers - you can t do better than that. The 13 Division One and Division Two teams were both victims of poor grading and both played a division above that nominated. To their credit both teams stuck to the task and played some good cricket as evidenced by the fact that our Club Champion Mitchell Allen-Waters came from the Division 1 team. Again thanks to our coaches, Dave Harding and Barry Elliott. Under 14 Divisions One and Three both made the finals and unfortunately for the boys, both lost. The Div. 1 team could manage only one win in the first round but they showed their class in the second round, losing only one game - an unlikely loss at that. Josh Dall and Justin Cains had good seasons while coach Andrew Mould and Peter Fagan both put in a lot of time and effort. The 14/3 s were promoted from division 4 and worked hard for all their wins but made the final in style only to have what can only be described as a catch free day. Top all round performances from Andre Sivier and Lachlan Bendeich while newcomer Simon Strath had a great season. The clubs most improved team and Brad Lundie has again done a great job as coach with good help from Stuart Ross. The 15/1 s did not win a single game in the first round but went on to win all but one game in the second round and make the semi finals. There they failed to get enough runs but made the opposition work hard to get the runs required. The team were well captained by Kelly Wilson who led by example by having a top all round season. He was ably supported by Levi Burley while Troy Pye had his best season, so far. Rob Cains took the time to coach and did well again. Our 15/3s were also in the wrong division and would have had a better season statistically in Div 4 but it did not worry them too much as they played every game like a world cup final. Their win in the final round one of the best for the club all season. Daniel Tinlin had a had a good season with the bat, Kai and Kane Nichols bowled well while Elyce De Boadita and James Taylor always gave their best. Thanks to Wayne Collison and Jim Baker for their work and efforts for the team. The 10 man 16/17 Division One team should never have been in division one and at the end of round 7 (of 10 rounds) had only one win and were running last. The coach refused to admit they were out of contention and his Never Say Die attitude prevailed and they won their last three games to sneak into the semis only to go agonisingly close, 10 runs, to beating the minor premiers. Jack Hoswell had a stand out year with both bat and ball (never took a catch till the semi final) with Shane Maher and Zane Hand both bowling and fielding well and Robert Bryant was consistent as usual all season. Ray Fewell did a great job as coach with Andrew Miall making the trip up from Sydney every weekend to help out. More information - nelsonbaycricket.cricketvault.com
