2017-18 PARENT/PLAYER AGREEMENT Rider Select Basketball Rider Select Basketball is a feeder program for Roosevelt High School. It is not run by the Des Moines Public Schools, Roosevelt High School, or the Roosevelt High School Athletics Department. Rider Select Basketball is run by a Board of Directors. Current directors are: Dave King (President), Bob Gostomski (Treasurer), Kristen Gostomski (Secretary), Pete McNally and Jason Palmer. All athletes participating in Rider Select Basketball must attend Roosevelt High School, a feeder school for Roosevelt High School, open enroll into Roosevelt High School, open enroll into a feeder school for Roosevelt High School, or intend to open enroll into Roosevelt High School. Rider Select Basketball has a zero-tolerance policy regarding Bullying, Hazing, and Harassment as well as for Emotional, Physical or Sexual Misconduct. Should you or your athlete feel that Bullying, Hazing, or Harassment has occurred, please contact the Club Director and Club Administrator immediately for investigation and resolution. Should you or your athlete feel that Emotional, Physical or Sexual Misconduct, abuse or policy violations have occurred, do not attempt to evaluate the credibility or validity of the claim as a condition to take action. Instead, it s critical that any suspicions or allegations are reported to the Club Director and Club Administrator immediately for referral to the appropriate law enforcement authorities. Rider Select Basketball will function under the rules, philosophies, and procedures outlined below. Please read through each page closely, as we want you to be fully aware of what is expected of our players and parents. A. FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS Player Fees: Each player (parent) is responsible for: The cost for the Fall/Winter season is $545 for 7 th and 8 th grade and $445 for 5 th and 6 th grade. Payment will be made to Des Moines Community Education due on September 6 th, 2017. If fees are not paid in full or an acceptable payment plan established by the due date, the player will not be eligible for future tournaments until past due fees are paid or an acceptable payment plan agreed upon. Please contact the program director if you would like to know about fund raising opportunities to cover all or part of this cost.

If you player chooses to leave the Roosevelt Rider Select Basketball Organization, or is dismissed from the team due to rule violations or disciplinary reasons, these fees are nonrefundable. When your team is play out of town, each parent is responsible for all meals and lodging or must make other arrangements if they are unable to accompany their child on trips. Please contact the program director if you would like to know about fund raising opportunities to cover all or part of this costs. B. PARENTAL PARTICIPATION- EXPECTATIONS AND RULES The success of Rider Select Basketball depends on the commitment of everyone in our organization. Parents are welcome to attend practices and games. You may be asked to help with practices, scorekeeping, and other items. Rules for Parents: 1) Rider Select Basketball wants to be known as a Class Organization. We ask that parents, relatives, and friends attending games absolutely do not speak negatively to referees, opposing coaches or players as well as our own players/coaches in any way. Allow the players to play the game, the coaches to coach, and the referees to handle the game rules. This rule will be strictly enforced- if not obeyed you will be asked to leave the gym. 2) Any parent challenging the authority of a Rider Select Basketball coach will be asked to leave the team. Verbal or physical abused of the coaches will not be tolerated. 3) Rider Select Basketball reserves the right to suspend parents from attending games at the discretion of the Board. 4) Parents the may have concerns or questions are required to follow proper procedure. a. Never address the coach before, during or immediately after a game. Make an appointment. C. PLAYING TIME All players will get playing time, however it may not be equal. Coaches will have full authority in selecting players to play. Membership fees do not pay for playing time in tournaments. Playing time is earned, not purchased. D. PLAYERS-RULES AND EXPECTATIONS 1) Players are not allowed to argue with coaches, parents or referees for any reason. 2) Foul language and profanity are not tolerated at any time. 3) Good sportsmanship is a quality that is exemplified by our players. Taunting of your own, as well as opposing players, fans or referees, will not occur. 4) Players are expected to give 100% effort at every practice and game.

5) Players are expected to be on time for practices and games unless their coach has prior notification of a scheduling conflict. 6) Cell phones are not to be used during practices or tournaments. Should they make an appearance outside of your bag at an inappropriate time, the coach can confiscate the phone and return it after the practice/tournament. 7) Jewelry is not allowed at practice or at tournaments. Please leave jewelry at home. 8) Players are not to leave the practice site OR a tournament before being released by the Coach. Parents should be aware the ALL team members are required to stay at a tournament until all team obligations are completed unless prior arrangements have been made by the coach. 9) All players are expected to consistently work on their own to raise the levels of their physical condition and skill. 10) Alcohol and drugs including marijuana and tobacco are prohibited at all times. 11) As a representative of this club, actions that will hinder the player s performance, game, or scholastics will not be tolerated. The athlete s actions and behavior should always be such as to reflect positively on the player, their team and Rider Select Club. 12) The club is committed to excellence in academic performance and will support family decisions regarding requirements for successful academic performance E. E-MAIL CONTACT-SOCIAL MEDIA 1) The vast majority of communication will occur through email. Accurate and stable email addresses are essential for communication to occur. It is the preference of Rider Select Basketball that our point of contact is the parent of the team member. 2) Our coaches may setup a text messaging group with their team members to broadcast messages for immediate communications such as the cancellation of practice, or a reminder to bring jump ropes. Should the parent prefer to be included in the group message, please provide the coach with your cell phone number. 3) The club encourages all coaches, staff, volunteers, parents and athletes to follow proper protocol regarding electronic and mobile communications. If, at any time, you become aware of anyone acting outside appropriate protocol, in comparison to normally acceptable communications, please contact the Club immediately. 4) Athletes should realize that the use of Social Media to tease, ridicule, intimidate or spread false rumors can and will be viewed as Cyber Bullying and will not be tolerated. F. TOURNAMENTS & LEAGUE GAMES 1) Tournaments are on weekends from November through March. Every player may not be rostered for every tournament. Most tournaments are two days. A tournament schedule will be distributed as soon as completed, however tournament-specific information is typically not available until two weeks or less prior to the tournament. Specific tournament information will be distributed by

email as soon as it is available. If you have a conflict with a specific tournament, please bring it to your coach s attention immediately. 2) Travel to tournaments, food and lodging is the responsibility of the parents. Often teams elect to work together to provide food for the team, their parents and coach. Please contact the Club Administrator for more information. 3) All team members are REQUIRED to remain at the tournament until the team is released by the coach, unless given prior permission by the coach. There may be team obligations that need to be fulfilled before the team can be released and all team members are required to participate in such obligations. 4) Valuables are left at your own risk. At the end of the tournament, all team members will be responsible for leaving the team area as you found it, with all trash disposed of. G. UNIFORMS 1) You will be provided a uniform jersey and shorts to wear at all tournaments. Uniforms are not to be worn outside of tournaments. H. ENFORCEMENT OF RULES AND VIOLATIONS The rules and expectations listed throughout this document are in place to ensure a safe, fun, and positive environment for our team and its development. Any parent or player violation of these rules will be handled in the following manner: A formal warning will be issued and documented A suspension from participation in at least one game will be issued and documented. Possible expulsion from Rider Select Basketball.
