Practice Facility COMMITTEE DESCRIPTION The Practice Facility cmmittee is respnsible fr ensuring that the practice area(s) are running in a smth and efficient manner fr all cmpetitrs in the turnament. The cmpetitrs practice areas include the tee deck, putting greens and bunkers. The practice facility and putting green are areas where players will wrk n many aspects f their game with their cach and/r caddie. In mst cases, the player will return t the practice facility after his rund t cntinue t wrk n his game. It is imprtant that the practice facility cmmittee keep any distractins t a minimum. The practice facility cmmittee will be ne f the first cmmittees n site in the mrning and almst the last cmmittee t leave after play. The cmmittee will have the assistance f the hst club staff fr washing and retrieving practice balls frm the practice facility itself. COMMITTEE FUNCTIONS Supplies It is imprtant t make sure all range supplies have been delivered t the practice area by the time the range pens t players starting the Sunday prir t the turnament. The list f supplies includes: clers with bttled water, garbage cntainers, name plates and names, water buckets, glf balls, glf ball bags and tees. It will be the Practice Facility cmmittee s respnsibility t make sure that all f these items are in gd supply thrughut champinship week. Nte: Keep range ball bxes high and dry t re-package balls n Sunday after the last grups have left the practice areas. The Practice Facility cmmittee will be issued ne radi, typically cntrlled by the Chair, Vice Chair r designate, t be used t infrm Glf Canada staff if any supply issues arise. Other duties include making sure all the names f the players in the field have been supplied (btain a final turnament field list frm Glf Canada staff) and wrking with the club staff t establish a schedule fr glf ball pickup and cleaning. Glf Balls Glf balls are supplied by Glf Canada (the supply is limited) and the cmmittee will bag the glf balls fr distributin. The hst glf club is respnsible fr cllecting, washing and delivering the glf balls t the cmmittee headquarters (small tent lcated within practice facility). If there is mre than ne brand r type f glf ball, it is imprtant that types f balls are nt mixed tgether. It is imprtant that when the balls cme back frm being washed that they are srted int each brand type. The bags will hld between 40 and 50 glf balls. Tur players r their caddies will take a bag r tw f the brand/type f ball f their chice. When the player is dne, cllect the unused balls and bags and bring them back t the range headquarters. Glf balls are als available t the Mnday and Wednesday pr-am cntestants. Hwever, because f the limited space n the range, Pr-Am cntestants will be limited t a reduced quantity (i.e. 20 balls each) f balls t hit at a predetermined hitting statin. This is als t help with the flw f Pr-Am cntestants using the range and t give them all equal pprtunity t practice prir t their rund. 2
Practice Facility/Range Security Vlunteer Security will cntrl access t the practice range. A security chart will be prvided at the entrance t the practice range by Glf Canada, which will shw the types f tickets/badges that gain access t the range and practice area. Range Signs (Plates and Names) An inventry f names and plates will be lcated in the range cmmittee headquarters. The plates can be set up each mrning; but the names will change with each player that hits balls frm that statin. When a player selects a statin at the practice tee, place his name in the crrespnding plate behind the tee. If the player is nt recgnized, lk n his glf bag r ask his caddie when the player is nt within earsht. Once the player is finished, remve the name and place it back in inventry, in alphabetical rder. During the Mnday and Wednesday Pr-Ams the name plates are t be used fr the prfessinals nly. At the end f each day, the plates shuld be returned back t the practice headquarters as the greens staff will need t cut the grass n the tee deck. Names shuld als be placed back in their receptacles in alphabetical rder. Every mrning the Practice Facility vlunteers shuld mve the rpes s that players are hitting ff a fresh area. Curse maintenance staff may decide the hitting area. Practice Green & Chipping Area These additinal areas are dictated by the layut f the curse. Practice Facility vlunteers will be statined at these areas t cllect balls, mnitr access and deal with any issues that may arise. HOURS OF OPERATION A gd rule t fllw is t have the range ready t be pen at sun-up and t keep the range pen until the last player leaves. On the final Sunday, the range will be clsed after the last players have teed ff. A small grup f range vlunteers will have t remain n duty if there is a pssibility f a play-ff. Any players with the chance f ging int a play-ff will want t practice, especially if they have finished much earlier than the ther players. Once a decisin has been made t resume play, yu will be ntified immediately by Glf Canada. All players will then prceed t the range, and will be permitted a shrt warm up perid. Vans will pick up players and prceed ut nt the glf curse. APPENDIX A: SAMPLE RANGE VOLUNTEER HANDOUT RANGE VOLUNTEER FUNCTIONS 1. PREPARATION, MAINTENACE, AND CLOSURE OF RANGE 2. KEEP ANY DISTRACTIONS TO A MINIMUM 3. MAKE SURE PLAYERS HAVE PROPER RANGE BALLS AS SUPPLIED BY GOLF CANADA 4. MAKE SURE GOLF BALLS ARE IN PLACE. BALLS ARE TYPICALLY ISSUED IN BAGS BY A RANGE VOLUNTEER LOCATED NEAR THE PLAYERS ENTRANCE TO THE RANGE UNDER A TENT 5. ENSURE THAT THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE IN PLACE ON THE RANGE a. COOLERS WITH WATER BOTTLES b. GARBAGE CONTAINERS c. NAME BRACKETS d. WATER PAILS FOR CADDIES TO WET THEIR TOWELS e. TEES 6. WHEN A PLAYER SELECTS A PRACTICE TEE, PLACE HIS NAME IN THE CORRESPONDING BRACKET BEHIND THE TEE. YOU MAY NOT RECOGNIZE THE PLAYER, LOOK ON HIS BAG, OR ASK HIS CADDIE WHEN THE PLAYER IS NOT CLOSE TO YOU. 7. WHEN A PLAYER LEAVES, TAKE DOWN HIS NAME AND PICK UP THE UNUSED BALLS FROM THE TEE PAD. 8. ENSURE THAT THE CHIPPING AND PRACTICE AREAS ARE STAFFED THROUGHOUT ITS USE AND THAT THE AREA IS KEPT IN A NEAT AND ORDERLY MANNER 9. DO NOT APPROCH PLAYERS WITH A REQUEST FOR PICTURE OR AUTOGRAPH CLUB STAFF AT THE RANGE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WASHING AND RETRIEVING OF BALLS FROM THE RANGE. 6
