IN THIS ISSUE New Members Pro Shop News President s News Maintenance Golf Results A Monthly Publication of Bent Tree Country Club April 15th 2013 Membership has been growing in the last two months. Be proud to be a member at Bent Tree Country Club, because that is a major reason why we are getting new members. Also, the fact that the golf course is in great shape is another reason for growth. Gail and I hear this in the office all the time when people are inquiring about membership. Our great staff is complimented as well. Thank you to everyone who came out to fill divots and pull moss down from the trees. WELCOME OUR NEW MEMBERS! Pro Shop News The Reciprocal Program is in full swing, we expect to have a full list of participating courses by May 1st. Be on the look out for our end of the Season Merchandise Sale email, lots of great deals to come! Don t forget to take advantage of our Shop Games as they will continue through the summer. News from the President Golfing with 50+ of My Best Friends One of the best things about Bent Tree Country Club is the comradery of its members. Last Wednesday at the MGA s final event my partner, Glen Jackson, and I were lucky enough to get to the finals of the Horse Race, starting on the hole #17. I was hitting second off the tee. After I teed my orb I looked at the green and saw a sea of my fellow members surrounding the green awaiting my tee shot. I thought I would be nervous but then I realized that I had 50 of my best friends playing with me. My shot was high with a slight drift to the right and finally rolled to a stop on the putting surface. A loud roar with horns beeping welcomed my shot to the green. That was a great thrill to receive the appreciation that my fellow members displayed. I believe that what you put into a club is what you get back. If you put involvement into the club it will reward you by expanding your friendships and activities. We only have two things to offer the membership at Bent Tree Country Club, golf and socializing at the clubhouse. I think we do a great job in both categories. The days are slowly ticking by till the 17 th of April when we should hear back from are friends at D.R. Horton regarding the acceptance of our contract. All signs are pointing in that direction. This past week core drillings where taken on the grounds around the club. I also heard that Horton has hired an engineer to proceed with engineering and drawings. This has been a two plus year happening but someday soon we will be rewarded. -Bob Haase

Club News Continued Maintenance News Spring Ahead With the season coming to an end the golf course held up fairly well with all the play the club had this season. It was a cooler winter than most and coldest March recorded on the books, with that we lost around a month of growing season coming into spring. Our average cool temperatures last March were 62 degrees, this year 50 degrees. The last week of March this year we recorded temperatures in the 40 s. Ok what does that mean, Bermuda growth is stunted with temperatures in the 50 s. It is not the day temperatures that control the growth it is the night temperatures. With the low temperatures that affects soil temperatures. Ideally you want your soil temperatures in the 60 s which they were not this spring, in turn affects the growth of the plant. So this March we did have a setback for growing conditions. Now our objective is to start preparing for next season, our first aerification of greens will be the end of this month. We will be applying our wall to wall fertilizer application at the same time. We will start our aerification process on tees, approaches and fairways in the coming months. Also plans to continue to repair drainage in the problem bunkers, we completed 8 bunkers so far and the results have been great. Our staff hopes everyone had a good season and is ready for next season, as we start preparing for next season. We appreciate everyone s help on the course filling divots and repairing your ball marks it Books to Read The next book club meeting will be held Wednesday April, 24th.
