For those doing the on lead classes, Horses must be equipped with a properly fitted halter over the bridle and the leadline attached to the bottom ring on the halter. Those children doing the off lead classes are permitted to have a handler in the ring for emergency purposes. All classes will be walk and jog/trot. Dutchess County 4-H Horse Show Rules & Guidelines 1. Open to currently enrolled 4-H members who have a current riding evaluation on file within their County Extension Office. Entries for classes/divisions must match the riding evaluation on file. 2. Only one horse/rider combination will be allowed per discipline 3. On the entry form, please be sure to include all divisions and classes you will be entering. There will be no addition of classes after entries have been made. Only scratches will be permitted 4. Entry fees will be $25.00 for the day for pre-entries for and are due 1 week prior to show date. Day of show entries are $30.00. These fees will cover a one horse/.one rider combination for all disciplines entered. Checks should be made out to DC 4-H Horse Advisory with 4-H Horse Show noted in the memo. Payment must accompany pre-entries. Returned check fee is $25.00 5. ASTM/SEI 1163 approved helmets and hard soled, heeled riding boots are required of all handlers and riders AT ALL TIMES WHEN HANDLING HORSES!!!! 6. Show management reserves the right to cancel, combine or divide classes if in its opinion the entries so warrant and decides all matters not covered in these rules. Their decision is final. 7. Unless otherwise specified, all Pleasure classes will be judged on performance, way of going and manners. All Equitation/Horsemanship classes will be judged on rider s form, seat, hands, legs, guidance and control of the horse. 8. Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County and their affiliates and volunteers will not be held responsible for any accident, injury, loss or damage occurring at the show. Every exhibitor will hold the same blameless and harmless for any accident, injury, loss or damage. 9. No person shall be allowed in the show ring during judging, except for Clover bud classes. All inquiries to the judges shall be done via the show booth. 10. Schooling breaks are at the discretion of the horse show management as time permits. An outdoor schooling area will be available. 11. No dogs allowed on the grounds 12. Martingales are not permitted in any flat classes, with the exception of Walk-Trot English Division. 13. Champion and Reserve are awarded for each division except Cloverbud. Points are based on a 6-5-4-3-2-1 scale. Ties will be broken by highest placing in an Equitation class, ground driving or cloverleaf barrel class. 14. All 4-H Code Of Conduct Rules will be upheld for exhibitors, parents/guardians, spectators and trainers and any behavior deemed unbecoming will be subjected to immediate disciplinary action. 15. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor, parent/guardian, and/or trainer to have read and understood the rules of this organization and this show. 16. Dutchess County 4-H Horse Show will follow NYS 4-H Horse Show Rules unless otherwise specified.
