Introduction and Review Trinity is a 4-form entry Christian co-educational secondary school and started via the free school programme. It opened in September 2013 with 89 students and a full time equivalent of 11 staff and has grown year on year. As of September 2017 Trinity has 660 students on roll 60 of which are additional to the normal PAN of 120, at the request of the Local Authority, KCC. The sixth form (Year 12 & 13) will cater for 190 students with a PAN of 95 and will open in September 2018. This travel plan has been approved by the Full Governing Body and will be monitored regularly and reviewed annually. What is a school travel plan? A School Travel Plan (STP) is a document written and adopted by a school outlining the action it will take to encourage healthier, safer and sustainable travel to and from school for both students and staff. It includes a package of measures based on specific aims and objectives that are reviewed annually by an interested group within the school. There are targets, deadlines and people responsible for monitoring progress. A School Travel Plan aims to: Ensure adequate provision of on-site car parking to avoid visitors parking in the local area Improve safety around the school by reducing car parking and vehicle movements near the school gate Increase walking and cycling to school which provides the opportunity to improve the alertness, health, fitness and safety of students, staff and parents Reduce traffic congestion and pollution Offer quality time for parents, children and staff by making the school journey together Maintain the school environment Maintain the reputation of the school Maintain relations with other schools and local residents Provide adequate bus parking to encourage use of public transport Provide opportunities for students to take part in decision making and learn about citizenship and the environment through the development of a school travel plan Purpose of the Travel Plan The development and implementation of this plan aims to encourage sustainable and healthy forms of transport to and from the school and reduce CO2 emissions. It supports many of the aims and objectives contained in overarching Climate Change and Sustainable Development Plans. It also supports the continued development of the Healthy Schools, Eco Schools and Green Schools Initiatives. Page 2

Incorporating the development of the travel plan into the curriculum will help students develop their road safety awareness, responsible attitudes towards other users, and their awareness of the effects of their travel choices; all of which they can take into their adult lives. In addition, the plan demonstrates Trinity s responsibility by taking action to improve the health, well-being and safety of the students and staff at the school and to improve the environment of the community in which people live. The Site: The site is situated on the west side of Sevenoaks, on the former Wildernesse School, just over a mile from Sevenoaks town centre and just under mile from Bat & Ball train station. The school is located on the southern side of the A25 Seal Road, which is a main arterial route into and out of Sevenoaks from the east, and on the eastern side of Seal Hollow Road (B2019). The site is 11.84 hectares in area. The built development on the site is predominately concentrated in the south western corner of the site, with hardstanding and car parking extending along the western boundary, linking with the existing pedestrian and three vehicular accesses to the site from Seal Hollow Road. Hours of Operation The school s normal hours, including extra-curricular activities are 07.30 to 18.00 Monday to Friday. Trinity s facilities including the sports hall is available for hire and use until 23.00 Monday to Sunday. Page 3

Access The site has three vehicular access/egress points from Seal Hollow Road, and one pedestrian access. There are dedicated entrance and exit points at the middle of the site frontage, and the access on the southern boundary used for deliveries only. There is also pedestrian access which connects to a wide pedestrian boulevard that serves both schools. Parking The site provides 242 car parking spaces, split into a larger car park to the north accessed via the existing entrance (widened) and exit, and a smaller car park to the south, accessed via the vehicular access point (in and out). The existing southern access is for service access and deliveries only. The pedestrian boulevard separates these two car parking areas. The car parking accords with Kent County Council s maximum parking standards for secondary schools. The smaller car park to the south provides 25 car parking spaces for Trinity & Weald of Kent Grammar Annex School and catering staff, and is not used by visitors or parents of students at either of the schools. The northern car park is the main access point for both schools, and includes a 148 metre parent drop-off zone, 217 parking bays and 11 accessible bays), 13 motorcycle bays, and a coach parking/drop off area which has capacity for 8 buses and parking for 7 mini buses. There Page 4

are cycle stands adjacent to the Trinity School accommodating 100 cycles, together with a further 90 cycle stand planned for installation at a later date, once the two schools are at capacity. Cycle access will be via the pedestrian route which avoids cycles crossing the car park. There is a pedestrian crossing on Seal Hollow Road controlled (to meet the pedestrian site entrance and the access boulevard), wig-wag warning signals for school signs, School-Keep- Clear markings and MOVA equipment installed to the A25/Seal Hollow Road signalised junction before student trigger levels are met. The main vehicular entrance will be staffed by either and or both schools between 8.15am- 8.45am and 3.15pm-4.00pm. This will be undertaken by Site/Premises Staff and Teaching Staff according to the formal duty rotas of the two schools as part of their official role responsibilities. Staff from both schools will guide pedestrian and road traffic to ensure student safety before and after school. Survey Data A survey was conducted on 17 October 2013 to establish travel patterns of students and staff when the school was based at Rydale Court. The results were shown in the 2014/15 travel plan. Analysis of current data held for students and staff on postcodes and mode of transport are shown in the appendices. The next full survey is scheduled for Spring 2018. Trinity occupied the new building from September 2016 and prior to this operated on site from September 2015 in mobile units. The main school reached full capacity September 2017 with its sixth form opening in September 2018. Consideration of the following possible issues will be monitored: Parents who choose to drop off and collect their child/ren by car will be encouraged to park responsibly on site using the car parking available. Parents will be encouraged not to drop their children on Seal Hollow Road to avoid congestion of the road network in this area. Students at the school will be encouraged to walk to school where appropriate and to use the Pedestrian entrance. Bus and Coach movements will be reviewed to ensure that timetables work for the school start and finish times. Students and staff will be encouraged to cycle to school and make use of the secure cycle storage on site. Plans already in place for Trinity Staff on duty (on rota basis) at the end of the school day to monitor the safe movement of students off site. Public transport routes in place with information available via the relevant transport provider websites & linked to our website. Parents and carers regularly reminded via newsletters / e-communication of preferred travel routes Assemblies that encourage sustainable, safe, independent travel Generous cycle storage provision Page 5
