Weekly Sports Report 10 May 2018 - Term 2 - Week 4 Inside this edition From the Head of Sport - Individual Achievements - Barbarian and Select Points AIC Round 3 Rugby and Football Draw v St Peter s Saturday 12 May Rugby & Football Results Round 2 v Iona - Rugby and Football Training Timetables Gym schedule Term 2 - Cross Country Information UPCOMING EVENTS From the Head of Sport Last Saturday we played Iona College in Round 2 of AIC sport for the winter season. This round of sport is always very competitive as two of the stronger AIC colleges battle each other for bragging rights. There was certainly some high-quality Rugby and Football matches played across the round culminating in a nail-biting 1st XV match where Iona was victorious in the final two minutes of play 24-20. With four tries scored by each side, the teams were narrowly split by goal kicking on the day in a tough game of rugby. On Friday afternoon our Chess teams completed a very impressive clean sweep of their competition matches, which continued their great start to the season. In rugby, we were successful in all but three aggregate matches while the contest was much more difficult in the aggregate football competition with two wins, five draws, and five losses. Our 1st XI battled hard but unfortunately went down 4-0 against a quality side. Well done to all teams on continuing a great start to the season. ROUND 3 This weekend we play St. Peter s Lutheran College who have significantly less teams in the rugby program. As a result, there will be several HOME derbies with Ashgrove teams playing each other in many games with matches on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Please check the draws listed below carefully and make sure you arrive at your playing venue no later than 30-45mins prior to the commencement of your game or as directed by your coaches. With significantly many more teams at home this weekend than away, we are expecting a large crowd to support our 1st XI and 1st XV teams. These middle rounds of the season are crucial and the players and coaching staff would appreciate the support. THANK YOU to all coaches and players on their performances in the first two rounds of competition. Good luck for Round 3. UNIFORM Only BLUE shorts are to be worn on the sporting field when representing Ashgrove. No other colours are accepted. When you represent your school in sport you are on public display and the image of our players and teams is important to the reputation of our school. From the Head of Sport CONTINUED... CANTEENS Our canteens rely on the support of parents to assist our P&F in providing this service to you. The McMahon oval canteen will be very busy on Saturday as usual and for those of you lucky enough to play football on Hayden or rugby on McMahon there is a certain amount of responsibility involved in your support of the canteens. With our first home round of the season on Saturday, it is important that we show this support by assisting the canteen staff. All of our canteen now have eftpos facilities available. If we cannot get the parents of boys playing on Hayden and McMahon to assist in the McMahon oval canteen on Saturday s, we may need to look at changing the draws to support the teams whose parents are willing to help. If boys want the privilege of playing on these main fields, we would really appreciate the support of our Marist families. The table below outlines the teams who we would appreciate support from this weekend. WET WEATHER It is inevitable that the weather will cause some games and training to be cancelled. Parents and students are encouraged to download the MCA App for the most up to date announcements regards training and games. The MCA App is the College s main form of instant communication. We encourage all Students, Parents and Guardians to download the App so that everyone is up to date with the latest sports news. Any last minute time and venue changes are also announced through the App. Mr David Miles Head of Sport WET WEATHER It is inevitable that the weather will cause some games and training to be cancelled. Parents and students are encouraged to download the MCA App for the most up to date announcements regards training and games. SPORT PHOTOS AND VIDEOS The sports department are always looking for photos and videos of the Colleges sporting teams throughout the year. If you wish to share these for use in the Sports newsletter, Blue and Gold, as well as other College publications, we encourage you to please send them to mcasport@marash.qld.edu.au.
