Good luck to all! This month is oods Valley, a fun course that has seen some of our wildest temperature swings in the past. Unfortunately, I won t be able to be there this month. Remember this for one more month, please: Pat and Mark will be still be out of town through October, so please send your signup sheets and money to Romona Smith! If you accidentally send them to Pat, no one will know and you might miss out! Romona s mailing address is on the signup sheet. It is time to pay your annual dues, please see Romona s section for details. Also, next month is our club championship final round as well as our annual banquet after the round at The Vineyard. Historically SCGA would expect dues payments for all players in October. At the end of 2017 that changed, and players are on anniversary dates now, depending on when they joined. Most of us will still need to pay our dues in October. Please note the renewal form at the end of this newsletter. You can begin sending those in to me. Effective for 2019 renewal, GAGC dues will be $90.
The banquet is coming up October 6 th at The Vineyard. Everyone attending receives a nice prize, so definitely not to be missed! It s always good to have a rules refresher) I recently have noticed some people (not necessarily in our club) not really correctly doing a drop in a lateral hazard. Carlton Oaks has a couple of good examples. Number 9 with the creek and number 11 with the dogleg around a pond. If you to visualize an imaginary wall going straight up into the sky from the sides of a lateral hazard. It is not where you ball lands in the hazard that counts; it is when it first crossed over that imaginary wall. Therefore, in the case of number 9 and crossing the creek; basically everybody was in the hazard at some point. Most of us managed to come out the other side so it did not matter. If you hit the ball in the hazard from any tee other than the red, it usually means you did not get very far and your ball was in the hazard. Therefore, you are dropping a long ways back. Usually around where the bridge was located. In the case of number 11 and the dogleg around the pond. In most cases it does not matter if you went just 10 yards in or 120 yards in, you usually have to drop a long ways back. I have actually had to drop way back at the beginning of the pond, even though my ball almost made it all the way across. Remember, it is not where the ball lands in the hazard; but where it initially cross over that imaginary wall into the sky.
