Metamora Hunt Website: www.metamorahunt.com Always call the Hunt Hotline: 810.678.2711 for weather or information updates on any Hunt related event. Metamora Hunt Country Magazine Our magazine is in the final stages of production now! If you would like to join us in celebrating our 90th year in Metamora please place a congratulatory ad in the anniversary edition of the 2018 Hunt Magazine. If you re a member with a new horse, or are thinking about becoming a member, but aren t sure how your horse will react to hounds, contact us to arrange to have you join us for hound exercises. We walk out at 9:30am most days except Sunday. Your horse can experience hounds being released from the kennel and then follow along to the Hunter Trial Field where the pack is free to roam. It s a terrific way to learn more about the hounds, as well exposing your horse to them in a safe manner.

We will also be scheduling trail rides to give both horse and rider experiences in riding in a group. The rides are free to members and $20 for nonmembers. Please call the Hunt kennel for dates and times, 810.678.2711 Additional News: Earth Day Fun! You can send Peter Gilles photos, logos, or business Cards and he will do the rest. You may reach Peter at: metamoraphoto1@aol.com. If you want him to take a photo or help with an ad just contact him. You can also call him at: 586.381.4794. Beautiful weather and a great turn out of Metamora Countryside Volunteers made this year's roadside clean-up day great fun for all who attended. Thank you to the hard working Volunteers who did their best to clean up many miles of roadsides, and to Ken and Diane Matheis who provided the delicious barbecue lunch! Think Warm Thoughts The Metamora Hunt Stable Tour will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2018. Please save the date and make plans to bring friends to our self-guided tour of some of the Metamora Countryside's most beautiful and unique stables. Tickets will be offered for sale starting in July. For additional information please contact Joe Maday, MFH, 810.678.8384. Tornado Siren Test

We would like you to be aware that tornado sirens will be tested in the Metamora Countryside on the first Saturday of each month at 1pm through November. So, you might want to keep this in mind as you work with or ride your horses on the first Saturday of each month. Metamora Hunt Subscriptions Due: Our "year" began on April 1. Subscription (Membership) forms were mailed to last year's Riding and Non Riding Members in February. Please renew your subscription to the Hunt now, if you have not done so already. You must renew by May 15th to have your name proudly listed in the Metamora Hunt Country Magazine! If you are not currently a Metamora Hunt Social Member, Benefactor, Friend of the Hunt, or Riding Member, but would like to join us, please contact our Honorary Secretary Michelle Mortier: 586-914-5802 or michelle1mortier@gmail.com Subscription forms are available on the Hunt website: http://www.metamorahunt.com/forms/ Pony Club News By Lisa McCormack Metamora Hunt II Pony Club started April with a meeting at Oxford library. Members worked on making stall cards for future testings and rallies, while parents worked on plans for upcoming events.

On April 21, 16 members and parents from our club helped clean up the roads of Metamora during the annual Earth Day event put on by the Hunt. All involved had a fun time working together to keep our local county side in good shape. For the 2nd year in a row, we brought in East Coast A level Pony Clubber Ema Klugman for a weekend clinic for our club. On Saturday April 28, the girls had flat and jumping lessons at Marge and Tom Bird s charming Orchard Hill Farm. The following day Ema taught x- country jumping lessons at beautiful Hunters Run. Under Ema s direction, our club members were also able to get in some practice bandaging their horses. After the clinic, Ema gave each of the seven riders a list of strengths and also things they could work on.

Kaila, one of our upper level members, was picked to be a US Pony Club media intern at this year s Land Rover KY Three Day event. She helped organize daily press conferences, guided riders to media interviews and was an official photographer for x-country jump #10 in addition to meeting many of the world s top riders. USPC offers many great opportunities to their members! Tip of the Month by Bob Carden With the weather improving (soon we hope) we all are ready to be out riding on the roads and trails of the Metamora Countryside. Please remember that you need to renew your relationship with each Landowner that allows you to ride on their land this year. You should contact them now and ask for the privilege of crossing their land

as you trail ride or exercise your horse. Do not make the mistake of assuming that Landowners who allow the Hunt to cross their land welcome all riders the rest of the year. On each ride you must be aware of the turf conditions. If you have any doubt about the ground being too soft to be on trails or to cross land, keep to the roads only. A rider that leaves damaged turf or deep hoof prints invites having that land closed off to all horses. Please remember to be courteous and friendly to the public as you ride out. A smile, wave of the hand, or tipping of one's cap does wonders for the good of our sport. Public relations are every Hunt Member's responsibility. Metamora Hunt Photos We are most fortunate to have Mr. Peter Gilles photograph many of our hunts and activities. Many of the photos in our monthly newsletters were taken by Peter.
