Welcome to the 2007 Northcliffe Dolphin Ocean Classic It is our pleasure to invite you to Australia s premier long distance surf racing event. Fast becoming the top endurance event on the Surf Sports Calendar, the 2007 Northcliffe Dolphin Ocean Classic is set to be bigger and better than ever. RACE BRIEFING The challenge is set. There will be compulsory RACE BRIEFING at 9.30am (ski paddlers), 10am (board paddlers), 10.30am (U13 & U14 Board), 12 noon (Beach Run), and 12.30pm (ocean swim) at Northcliffe SLSC. All competitors MUST attend irrespective of when your race starts. You will be issued with RACE NUMBERS & COMPETITOR PACKS. RACE BRIEFING DETAILS FOR ALL COMPETITORS Where: Date: Northcliffe SLSC, Training Room (on the Ground Floor) Saturday, 15 th September 2007 RACE DAY Times: 9.30 Ski Paddlers 10.30 Board Paddlers 12 noon Beach Run 12.30pm Swimmers (for specific times for each age division please see times below under each discipline) SETTING OF COURSES It is important to note that constant observation of the wind and sea conditions will be made prior to and on the race day, via the internet, weather bureau and Coast Watch. Ski & Board s: Subject to the conditions the course may be altered to favour the paddlers (eg. a north to south or south to north course). In the event of calm weather all ski and board paddlers in all age groups will start and finish at Northcliffe Beach. The preference is for racing to travel parallel to the beach with designated turning buoys throughout the course, therefore keeping all paddlers as close to shore as possible to enhance spectator viewing and media involvement. At no time will any unnecessary course be taken or course changes made that will endanger the safety of any paddlers or safety vessels. Swim : Subject to the conditions the course may be altered to favour the swimmer (eg. a sheltered beach if conditions are deemed too rough). The Ski Race The will be approximately 20 km long (10km for 40+ competitors). At no time will any unnecessary course be taken or course changes made, that will endanger the safety of any paddlers or safety vessels. A full and detailed course description will be displayed at the Race. NOTE: Ski paddlers must carry a minimum of one (1) litre of drinking fluid in this race.. Competitors are permitted to use Fibreglass Nipper (U13) and Malibu Boards (U14) ONLY All board paddlers in age groups Under 13 & Under 14 have a course of approximately but no more than 2 km long on Race Day. Note: A full and detailed course description will be displayed at the Race. Note Requirement to carry drinking fluid in this race is optional for Under 13 & Under 14 competitors. 2km Beach Run (Open to the public) All runners will have a course of approximately 2 km long on Race Day. The setting of the course will be dependant on the conditions on the day with a preference to start and finish at Northcliffe Beach with a loop going from Northcliffe Beach to Surfers back to Broadbeach back to Northcliffe. Age Groups as at 1 st October 2006 (2006/07 Season) Interstate SLSC Members All Interstate SLSC members MUST fill in the attached forms and seek relevant endorsement. ALL Interstate nominations MUST be accompanied by relevant BRANCH AND STATE endorsement for the entry to accepted. Non Surf Life Saving Members A persons wishing to compete that is not associated with a Surf Life Saving Club must fill in the attached entry form these forms are to be accompanied by relevant monies.
