BACKGROUND In response to citizen s concerns, The City of Miami Beach requested an assessment of pedestrian safety along the segment of Normandy Drive and 71 Street FDOT conducted an engineering study and identified pedestrian improvements at five locations FDOT is seeking input from residents on proposed improvements

LOCATION 1: 71 Street at Biarritz Drive and Verdun Court EXISTING CONDITIONS: 71 Street is one-way, eastbound. Posted speed is 35 mph.

LOCATION 1: 71 Street at Biarritz Drive and Verdun Court FIELD OBSERVATIONS

LOCATION 1: 71 Street at Biarritz Drive and Verdun Court PEDESTRIAN DEMAND 194 pedestrians crossed within an eight-hour period Pedestrian crossing distance is 50 feet

LOCATION 1: 71 Street at Biarritz Drive and Verdun Court PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS Install a midblock pedestrian crossing controlled by a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) Re-align right turn lane on northbound approach Install additional lighting Install No Pedestrian Crossing and Use Crosswalk signs on the west leg of the intersection Remove 8 parking spaces along the north side to improve visibility of the pedestrian crossing

LOCATION 4: Normandy Drive at Rue Notre Dame PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS Upgrade Pedestrian Warning signs to fluorescent Install additional lighting Install No Pedestrian Crossing and Use Crosswalk signs on the west leg Extend curb on the northeast and southeast corners of the intersection to reduce pedestrian crossing distance Remove on-street parking along the north and south. Approximately 2 parking spaces on the north side and 5 parking spaces on the south side Evaluate drainage at the northwest corner

LOCATION 5: 71 Street at Rue Granville PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS Remove on street parking to improve visibility of pedestrians crossing. Approximately 4 parking spaces need to be removed Extend curb on the northeast and northwest corners of the intersection to reduce crossing distance Reconstruct pedestrian ramps

LOCATION 5: 71 Street at Rue Granville

PROJECT SUMARY 3 MIDBLOCK PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS 2 CURB EXTENSIONS AT 2 INTERSECTIONS OVERALL PARKING REMOVAL INCLUDES 30 PARKING SPACES TOTAL PROJECT COST - $ 789,906.00
