find the right class We believe that there is a dancer in everyone so now is your chance to shine! Children from 18 months to age 8 These classes are designed to introduce children to the basics of dance and encourage their natural ability and enjoyment. There is a clear progression route through our children s classes to our classes for young people. Young People ages 8 16 Our classes for young people aim to develop the dancer s technical ability whilst enhancing their presentation skills and musicality. We strongly recommend that students from Ballet 1 attend two ballet classes per week. Students from Ballet 2 and above must take a minimum of two ballet classes per week with us in order to really see their progression. If students wish to take three classes with us per week then they will receive a 50% discount on the cost of their third class. Adults It s never too late to learn to dance and our adult classes, from beginners up to advanced level, are a great way to keep fit and improve posture and flexibility in a social atmosphere. If you wish to fully grasp the basics of ballet then we recommend that you enrol on one of our 10 week Ballet Courses (highly recommended for complete beginners). This will guide you through the key principles in a relaxed and informative class providing you with a sound knowledge of the basic classical technique, movement vocabulary, coordination and confidence needed to progress on to level 1 of our drop-in classes.
Mini Movers A fun weekly class for children from 18 months to 3 years and their parents /carers involving dancing, music, stories and props. 65 per term (10 week term enrolment only) Moving Minis A continuation from Mini Movers this class is for children aged 3 4 who are ready to take their dancing to the next level without their parents or carers. 65 per term (10 week term enrolment only) Introduction to Ballet (ages 11 16) For students with no or little previous experience of ballet this is the class for you. Have you always wanted to train in ballet but not yet had the chance? Well now you can! Ballet (ages 8 16) Designed to take young dancers from their earliest steps to an advanced level of study. Ballet 1 no experience needed Ballet 2 and 3 experience needed Pointe work There is also a pointe work class available after Ballet 2 and 3 which students can join on approval from their teacher. Ballet Whether you are a beginner or a professional dancer we have a class for you. Ballet classes will improve your fitness, help you tone up and improve your flexibility and posture. Ballet Fusion These classes are designed to get you moving and your heart pumping. A combination of ballet, Pilates and cardio, Ballet Fusion blends body toning, posture and alignment work, flexibility exercises with cardio in a fun and energetic class. Creative Movement School children aged 4 6 who love to dance can discover their musicality and coordination in a friendly environment where imagination is encouraged. 60 per term Pre-Ballet The next step for all budding ballet dancers aged 6 8. This class will focus on correct posture as well as creativity, musicality and coordination. 60 per term Jazz (ages 8 16) Learn a range of different modern styles from street dance to musical theatre. These energetic classes will build coordination and natural rhythm. Jazz is an important style for any dancer to master. Boys Only! Boys aged 8 12 are invited to attend this class. It allows our male students to be inspired by our wonderful male faculty and work on their dance technique in these energetic classes. All classes 70 per term. Pointe Work additional cost: Ballet 2 15 per term, Ballet 3 Beginners 15 per term, Ballet 3 Improvers 30 per term. Dancing for the over 55s Beginners and improvers Whether you have danced all your life or simply want to try something different our gentle ballet exercises will keep you moving in this social and friendly class. They work towards the highest possible standards of classical technique, preparing them for full-time study at vocational ballet schools. Registration To access any of the Academy of Northern Ballet classes a registration form must be completed first and returned with a 5 registration fee. Attendance Spaces in all classes, including drop-in, are issued on a first come first served basis. Classes for children and young people Classes run as a 1 year course and students must commit to attend the class each week. The first class acts as a trial to make sure that it is the right level for the child or young person. Adult classes All classes other than the Adult Ballet Courses run on a drop-in basis. Payment for classes is made on arrival (either by cash, card or Dance Card) but we ask dancers to book a place in the class beforehand by calling 0113 220 8000. Bookings can be made from 10am on Saturday mornings for the week ahead. Students are required to enrol in advance for the Adult Courses and must commit to the full 10 weeks in order to see improvement. Latecomers Latecomers will not be admitted into class after the first 15 minutes to prevent injury and disruption to the class. No refunds are available unless a class is cancelled. What to wear Our children s classes and classes for young people have a set uniform (a handbook detailing this is available on our website). For all adult classes clothing should be loose and comfortable so that you can move easily. No denim. Footwear is dependent on each dance style but on the whole we recommend that students have bare feet or flat ballet shoes.
