FINAL DETAILS - RACE 2 GOYT VALLEY Thank you for entering the second event in the 2018 series, where we ve gone back to the usual format of the 3 hour event. We are pleased to see you at this first Peak Raid event in Goyt Valley and do hope you will have an enjoyable time out on the fells. Location: Race HQ: White Hall Outdoor Education Centre Long Hill Buxton Derbyshire SK17 6SX MAP HERE Race HQ and parking is at White Hall Outdoor Education Centre, located to the north of the A5004 between Whaley Bridge and Buxton. The only entrance is off the A5004. Whilst there is a possible access from the village of Combs, the road is very narrow and the gate on this site of the centre may be closed. NOTE please ignore sat nav directions if they approach from the north. A5004 approach from Buxton drive uphill for approximately 2 miles, go past LH turn at top of hill for the Goyt Valley. White Hall is about half a mile further on, on the RH side as you go into a wooded area. A5004 approach from Whaley Bridge from the roundabout on the A6 follow the A5004 through Whaley Bridge and then gradually uphill for a further 4 miles. White Hall is on the LH side within a wooded area after some tight bends in the road.

Car Parking We will be tight on parking, so can we please ask for you all to car share if at all possible. On arrival to White Hall, please follow instructions from our marshals. No parking charges. Registration: Registration will be open from 7.30am. You will need to have your race kit checked before going to the start. Kit check will take place at the Race HQ. Please allow yourself enough time as there might be a bit of a queue at peak times for both registration and kit check. Start interval from 8.30-9.30. Entry on the Day: We will have limited entry on the day, but please contact us by email/phone before you set off, to reserve a map/dibber. Start: There is a remote start, approximately 15min walk/jog from the Race HQ. You will be given the race map at the start. Start interval from 8.30-9.30. Sunrise: 07:11 am Road Crossing: On the way to the start, everyone will have to cross the busy A5004 road. Please do take great care when crossing. Do not run along the road. Anyone doing so will be disqualified from the event. The A5004 will also need to be crossed at the end of your run to get to the finish at Race HQ. Please take care and do not rush, it is not worth it. All competitors have an extra 60 seconds time-out allowance on the 3 hour time limit for this crossing in case you are delayed by vehicles. There will be a standard control box on either side of the road. Do make sure to register your SI-dibber as you get to the road then cross the road safely Register your SI-dibber in the control unit when you have crossed the road and continue your run. We will then manually deduct the time it took to cross the road. If you don t register in both boxes, we will make no deduction. Event Format: There are 15 control points, each with a score (marked next to the control in green). The challenge is to get as many points as you can within 3 hours. The maximum possible score is 500 points.

Penalties: You will lose 20 points per minute for every minute that you are exceeding the 3 hour time limit. Example: If you are 4 minutes late you will lose 80 points (4 x 20 = 80). Remember to take into account that you need to get back to Race HQ, so allow yourself enough time for that or you might lose your points. Event map: The event map has been specially produced by Peel Land Surveys and the map scale for this event is 1:25,000 with a 10m contour interval on an A4 sheet. The symbols are to the usual specification for mountain marathons. A blank copy of the event maps will be displayed in race HQ. Please ensure that you adhere to all areas of out of bounds, which are clearly marked on your event map. It is getting increasingly more difficult to get access to the areas we use for the events, and future events in the area depend on us respecting this, so anybody found to have infringed this will be disqualified. Please close all gates after you, only crossing walls and fences at gates/stiles and remain on the public rights of way when crossing farm land. There may be route choices with running along or crossing roads. The main road, A5004, running through the Goyt Valley, is very busy with limited visibility at times, cars often drive at high speed and not expecting runners near the road. We remind you of taking great care near roads and only to cross the road as shown on the map. Obtaining access to the areas we use for our events is a challenging process. As part of the SSSI consent we obtain for the areas we use for our events, we are not able to allow dogs to join their owner during the race. Everyone must report at the finish and download their dibber. All hired dibbers must be returned at the finish. Trail Race: Please note that there will also be a trail race taking place in the Goyt Valley on Sunday. You may come across runners when you cross footpaths within the area. Shop: We have a limited supply of bivvy bags and whistles for sale. Equipment: We will not let you start if you don't have the required kit: 1. Fell running shoes that in the organiser s opinion are fully suitable for the type of rough terrain that will be encountered.

2. Full waterproof body cover: Trousers & coat with an integrated attached hood, both with taped seams. As there is no sign of rain on race day, we will allow Pertex trousers and coat. 3. Hat & Gloves 4. Compass & Whistle 5. Map and control descriptions (issued on the start line) 6. Timing Chip (each person must carry their own and use it at each control. Hire dibbers are handed out at registration 7. Food & liquid to see you through the event 8. Emergency bivvy bag (must be a bag, not a sheet; it can be foil or plastic) 9. Watch. (no devices which display maps or aid navigation) 10. Race Number. Supplied at registration. The race number must be positioned on the front of a running top or running tights, worn at all time during the race. No race numbers on rucksack or bum bag. PLEASE DO NOT SKIMP ON EQUIPMENT IT IS NOT WORTH IT!! The weather forecast is looking damp and very windy, it is still essential that you dress accordingly and we do recommend that you bring an extra layer. Pre entering the emergency phone numbers before the event is recommended. Please call if you are likely to be back significantly late or if you are injured. Mobile reception is limited on the fells, but a text message may get through when a mobile phone will not. The text message will keep trying to reach the recipient. Peak Raid 3 emergency numbers: Rich 07974983670 Dave 07768200175 Emergency phone numbers also on the event map Remember to look out for each other. If you see someone not looking right or who has injured themselves, please check that they are well enough to get back to HQ without assistance or contact the HQ.
