Central was 3 1/2 games, but after a 5-4 journey through the A.L. West, the Royals open this stay with a 4 1/2-game advantage over these Twins and six games on Detroit...now for the bad news, the Royals had gone 5-1 through Seattle and Oakland, but then ran into a red hot Houston and wound up being swept by the Central leaders, capped with a 6-5 setback last night...kc jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the strength of a Kendrys Morales 2-run homer and an RBI single from Alex Rios...the hosts used a 4-run fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead on starter Edinson Volquez, but the Royals proved resilient when Jarrod Dyson tripled home the tying run with a 2-out gapper in the seventh... unfortunately, Houston took advantage of Jose Altuve getting plunked to open the home half of the seventh and scored the deciding tally...kelvin Herrera was saddled with the loss without giving up a hit. TWINS, RAYS AND JAYS TAKES KC TO BREAK--Tonight kicks off a season-long 11-game stay at The K starting with a 4-game set against division rival Minnesota, followed by a 7-game stretch vs. the A.L. East with Tampa Bay (4) and Toronto (3) hitting town...the completion of the Houston series last night snapped a stretch in which KC was away from home for 16 of 21 games, going 10-6 in the road games. KC S PEN STILL THE BEST--Despite allowing a run last night, Kansas City has taken over the Major League relief ERA lead with a 2.06 mark, with St. Louis next at 2.15...during the 9-game road trip, the KC pen allowed five earned runs in 28.0 innings for a 1.61 ERA, while holding the opposition to a.118 average (11-for-93).
