2017-2018 CLARK ATLANTA UNIVERSITY CHEER TRYOUT REQUIREMENTS The 2016-17 team tryouts will be conducted by video submission only. Video Submissions MUST be received by: 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2016. If you are considering CAU and would like to try out for cheer but have not yet been accepted, your submission must still be received by the posted deadline. SCHOLARSHIPS: Currently Clark Atlanta does NOT offer scholarships for cheer. Please be aware of the financial commitment (i.e. tuition, room/board, and fees) of being a CAU student prior to committing to the cheer program. ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS: Current Students must have and maintain a 2.0 GPA, have a valid 900 CAU Student ID number, must be a full time Clark Atlanta University student. Incoming students, Freshmen and Transfer students must provide a valid 900 number once accepted to the University. Must have had a physical within the past SIX MONTHS and provide proof of physical upon arrival to campus. NO EXCEPTIONS. Completed CAU Cheer Try Out Application. (SEE PDF) Recent Photo (Sent in conjunction with completed application) ATHLETIC REQUIREMENTS: CAU Cheer is an ALL GIRL cheer program Previous high school/all star, cheer, dance, or gymnastics experience preferred Precise and strong motion technique Vocal clarity and volume Athletic coordination Crowd appeal

APPEARANCE & ATTITUDE: Look the part Must be physically fit, toned and well proportioned Cheerleaders are University ambassadors, we look for candidates that have a positive attitude and strong leadership qualities 2017-2018 TRY OUT VIDEO REQUIREMENTS GENERAL VIDEO REQUIREMENTS: Video MUST be shot in COLOR No slow motion effects or instant replays Be in a space appropriate for cheer (NOT in your living room) Capture all demonstrated skills from beginning to end No alternate video formats will be accepted (e.g. Powerpoint, Smilebox, etc.) Be sure to follow the submission directions precisely. If you do NOT receive a "Try Out submission received" email after submitting your video, application AND photo please be sure to contact us via email (coach@caucheer.com). TRY OUT ATTIRE: Hair - Cheer/Performance appropriate Make Up - Cheer/Performance appropriate No Jewelry Red, Black, Gray or White SPORTS BRA & shorts NO EXCEPTIONS. Athletic Shoes BE SURE THAT YOU ARE EASILY DISTINGUISHABLE FROM OTHERS PARTICIPATING IN YOUR VIDEO. VIDEO INTRODUCTION** - **DENOTES REQUIRED Intro video should be recorded from the waist up; no hand held selfies. This is a vocal/spoken section - do not display these in written format. Name, Age & Hometown Positions you would like to be considered for (Base, Back Spot, Flyer) What programs have you cheer for? School/All Star? Tell us your favorite skill in cheer, and why. Tell us about a time you had to demonstrate courage. What did it teach you about yourself? How do you feel courage plays a part in cheer?

Any skills you demonstrate in your video, you will be expected to do as a member of this team. CHEER** 1 original cheer that highlights cheer motions and technique. Cheer should include at least one elite jump. Other skills may be incorporated. DANCE** 1 original dance that highlights technique and showmanship. Dance should be no less than 6-8counts. DO NOT INCORPORATE other skills into the dance section. ELITE JUMPS** - Demonstrate one of each - ONE AT A TIME: Pike Front Hurdler Side Hurdler (Herkie) Toe Touch Double Toe If Able - Jump through to skill (ex: Toe/Back) STUNTING** CAU Cheer is an ALL GIRL team, Stunts should be demonstrated with majority girls. Flyers, Bases, and Back Spots - Demonstrate proficiency in all areas you are familiar with. CAU cheer team members take on various stunting roles throughout the seasons. Demonstrate: Extension (Awesome/Cupie) Liberty (Variations - Torch, Heel Stretch, Scorpion, Scale, Bow & Arrow, Arabesque) Full Twisting Cradle (if able) Any Basket Tosses (if able) Be sure that you are easily distinguishable from the other participants in your group.

TUMBLING Demonstrate your best level of tumbling. Do NOT attempt tumbling that is beyond your skill level that could be dangerous for you. Use a spot if necessary. FYI - We cheer on football field turf, track surfaces and hardwood courts. Acceptable: Back/Front Walk overs, Aerials, Standing Back handspring (series), Round Off Back handspring (series), Standing Back Tuck, any advanced passes - Round off tucks, layouts, fulls, etc. Single spotted tumbling is allowed. If you choose to use a spot, show at minimum two attempts. FLEXIBILITY** Demonstrate your level of flexibility. (Ex; Splits, heel stretch, etc.) IMPORTANT EXTRAS TO INCLUDE: Video clips of team performances (Games, pep rallies, competition, etc.) Other Talents/skills: CAU Cheer needs all around performers, feel free to show us what else you can do. Do you sing? Play an Instrument? Ballet, Jazz, Afro, Contemporary, Tap Dance? Spoken Word, Model/Runway? FUN STUFF - WHO ARE YOU? Your baptism, You and your bffs stunting in the pool, Bloopers making your video, Cooking with Mom in the kitchen, etc. Video Submission Instructions 1. If you don't have a YouTube account, create one. 2. Once you have an account, at the top of the page, you should see the search box, followed by an Upload button. Click on upload and you'll be directed to the "upload" page. 3. Click on the large white arrow in the red box in the center of the page (says "Select files to upload" underneath). 4. Choose the file you want to upload. Go to http://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55744 for a list of supported YouTube file formats. 5. The next page you land on will say in the upper left corner, "Uploading 1 video." On this page you can do the following: ~ Rename the video (ex: Jane's CAU Cheer Try Out) ~ Add a note or description ~ Set the Privacy to "Unlisted" (We recommend that you choose this option) 6. Soon after you set the video to upload, the video's link address will appear above the

"uploading" status bar. Copy this address and email it to Coach Alane Hickman at coach@caucheer.com. In the subject line of your email type, "Cheer Tryout Video - Jane Doe" IMPORTANT NOTES: ~ Do NOT close the page or navigate away from the page while upload is taking place. Attach your completed CAU Cheer Try Out Application form in the email. Be sure the form has been COMPLETED in its entirety. 8. You will receive a verification email once your video has been successfully received. Application Instructions 1. Download the application to your computer's hard drive. DO NOT complete the information in the application in your internet browser. 2. Save the COMPLETED application to your hard drive. Save as "(Your Name) Cheer App" 3. Attach THAT file in the email with your video link, and photo. LASTLY, refer to the checklist to ensure you have submitted all required components of your submission.
