We had a spectacular time staying in a great family run local hotel including breakfast and four course dinners expertly prepared with world class presentation and it tasted good, all of it. David, his wife Delphine, and his daughter, Louise gave us rides all over town. David even took two of us to the local clinic for our injuries. On the first ski day, Sunday, Anna fell on top of her ski pole and fractured a rib. She was the new recipient of the travelling trophy from Chuck Klein, received after his injury last year in Austria having received it from me for falling on Black Ice on the street going from our hotel bar to another bar two blocks away, just the night before. I guess my wife, Barb, and her sister, Laurel, thought I should have a trophy for being injured so many times. On the second ski day of this trip, I was skiing with my brother, Gary, and Chuck Klein (probably not a good idea since he s accident prone like me) and a snowboarder crashed into my upper right side fracturing two ribs and he took right off with no possible way to catch him. I heard them break and there was no way for me to take out after him. And, as many of you probably noticed, Ski Patrol was pretty much non-existent. This happened in a slow zone at the bottom of a run as we were on our way to download on the gondola for the day s end. None of us saw him coming, he was airing it out. I call them renegades. So the next day on David s advice, he took me to the clinic. I had 3 x-rays and found I had fractured 2 ribs on my right side. So, sadly I am again the new recipient of the travelling trophy. I found other things to do since I could no longer ski, but I was once more disappointed that my skiing ended so early. Let s all take care on the next 3 ski trips to ski in control. I hope no one else gets injured, including me again, and we can retire this trophy for good. Maybe I can pass it along to another club. The side trip to Nice was great. We all had a good time exploring and we even made some new French friends. Always ski in control and remember the skier in front of you has the right of way, no matter what kind of dumb moves they make. They are probably new skiers and inexperienced. Don t be the one to ruin their day and yours as well. Don t forget trip insurance, your Pre-Ski-dent, Leo Ahasic NEWSLETTER Joe & Dana Hopp Jhopp23@hotmail.com WEBSITE Chuck Salisbury c.salisbury@computer.org 1

RECIPE Ham & Cheese Tailgate Sliders Servings: 12 sliders Prep Time: 15 Minutes Cook Time: 25 Minutes Total Time: 40 Minutes, plus 15-20 minutes to cool Ingredients For the Butter Sauce 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce 1-1/2 tablespoons poppy seeds 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder Heaping 1/4 teaspoon salt For the Sandwiches 1 pack (12 count) square soft white dinner rolls, such as Kings Hawaiian Sweet Rolls 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard 10 oz. (2/3 pound) sliced Swiss cheese 10 oz. (2/3 pound) sliced Black Forest ham Instructions 1. Adjust an oven rack to the middle position and preheat to 350 F. 2. In a small bowl, whisk together all of the ingredients for the butter sauce. Set aside. 3. Using a serrated bread knife, slice the rolls in half horizontally, keeping the top and bottom halves separately intact. Spread the Dijon mustard evenly over the cut sides of the roll tops and bottoms. 4. Place the bottom half of the bread, cut side up, in a 9-inch square baking pan. Place half of the cheese in an even layer over the bread. Top with all of the ham, followed by the remaining cheese. Cover with the roll tops. 5. Evenly spoon the butter sauce over the top of the rolls, letting it drip down the sides. 6. Bake for 22-25 minutes, until the top is golden brown and toasted. Let cool for 15-20 minutes in the pan. Using a large spatula, carefully transfer the sandwich block to a cutting board. Slice into sandwiches and transfer to a paper towel-lined serving plate. Serve warm or room temperature. 7
