Crawford County Club Day County club day will be held Feb. 24 th at Girard High School. Signup starts at 9 a.m. All youth and clubs must be signed up on their event door by 9:30 a.m. Enter through the cafeteria. Top two purples in each individual event and top purple in each group event qualifies for regionals. Regionals will be March 3 at Neosho County Community College. Birdhouse Fundraising Thanks to a generous donation by Tractor Supply Company of Pittsburg, 4-H Council is selling a variety of bird feeders with a suggested donation, to raise money to help offset the 4-H participation fees. There are a wide variety of shapes, colors and sizes. We also have feeder scoops. Stop by the Extension Office and check them out! This event will be a fun filled, educational day of activities in which youth, parents, sheep project leaders, and adults can increase their knowledge and experience of sheep production and management. This interactive, educational event will stimulate enthusiasm and provide a foundation for the management and care of youth sheep projects. Presentations and demonstrations will be provided by K-State faculty and graduate students, as well as guest speakers. Topics that will be covered include project selection, nutrition, equipment and facilities, meat science, the state livestock nomination process, sheep health, wellness, and diseases, wool, showmanship, grooming, and Youth for the Quality Care of Animals certification. A complimentary lunch and t-shirt will be provided for participants. Registration is due by February 23, 2018 and is $15/person. Registrations received after February 23rd cannot be guaranteed a t-shirt and will be $20/person. The K-State Sheep & Meat Goat Center will be having their annual sale on the same date, following the Junior Sheep Producer Day. The program schedule will allow participants who would like to participate in both events to do so. Kansas Junior Beef Producer Day Registration Open The 2018 Kansas Junior Beef Producer Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 2018 in Weber Hall on the Kansas State University campus. This event will be an interactive, educational day in which youth, parents, beef project leaders, and adults can increase their knowledge about youth beef production and management. K-State faculty, staff, and guest speakers will cover topics such as market and breeding project selection, nutrition, the state nomination processes and updates, meat science, grooming, leadership, health, reproduction, showmanship, grooming, and Youth for the Quality Care of Animals certification. All ages and skill levels are invited to attend. A complimentary lunch and t-shirt will be provided for all participants. Registration is due by March 2, 2018 and is $15/person. You must: 1) Be 13 years old 2) Be enrolled in Leadership 3) Let us know you want to join Kansas 4-H Shooting Sports Training The next Kansas Shooting Sports Instructor Training is scheduled, Friday - Sunday, April 6-8, 2018 at Rock Springs 4-H Center. Contact Roz Mosier, Cr Co Shooting Sports Coordinator, if you are interested in becoming an instructor. roz.mosier@greenbush.org, 620-249-4008. 2018 BB gun and Air rifle Classes will begin Thursday February 1 st @6:30p.m. in the Marvin Green Building. Classes will be every Thursday evening for the next six weeks. Must be 4H age 9 or older. For more information contact Alan Amershek at 785-207- 0465 2018 Crawford County 4-H Archery 2018 Crawford County 4-H Archery will begin Sunday, April 15, 2018, 2:00 pm. Then we will meet every Sunday with the exception of holidays (Mother's Day, Memorial Day weekend, Father's Day, etc.). The first 3 Sundays (April 15, 22 & 29) will be for anyone new to the program and anyone who needs refreshing. Beginners MUST attend the range and safety orientation April 15 th to participate in the program. Equipment will be provided for the beginners, please leave yours at home. The veterans will begin meeting on Sunday, May 6 at 4:00 pm. Meeting times may change as the season goes on. We will make those changes to practice times, when necessary, at practice. Skill-a-thon tests a 4-H member s knowledge and comprehension of animal science and livestock management practices. Typical topics are livestock equipment identification, livestock breed identification, retail meat cut identification, Hay and wool judging, quality assurance, and a quiz about the livestock industry. Quiz Bowl contestants answer questions via a buzzer system on wide array of questions that cover the beef, sheep, swine and meat goat project areas. Livestock Judging rank pens of beef, sheep, swine, and meat goats based on the animal s production or reproduction qualities. 4-H member at horse show and trail rides. Project member may exhibit at local fair with a borrowed 4-H Identified horse in the showmanship class only. No riding. Statewide Horse Project Level Test Riding Event Do you want to advance your knowledge and skills with the Horse Project? Don't miss this opportunity to complete the Level I-III Horsemanship component at the Wyandotte County 4-H Horse Achievement Level Riding Test Invitational April 7, 2018! SUNNY HILLS 4-H CAMP Sunny Hills 4-H Camp at Rock Springs Ranch will be June 3-6, 2018. Camp is an awesome opportunity for 4-H ers who have completed the third grade and up to the seventh grade. Camp Counselor Applications and Registration forms will be available soon. Save the Date! HORSE ID INFORMATION Horse ID s are due in the Extension Office prior to May 1, 2018. ID Papers are required to show any horse. Stop by the Extension Office to pick-up new ID forms if you have a new horse or drop-off your ID Papers from last year for returning horses. Forms will be signed and mailed to you for your records. Kansas 4-H Horseless Horse Questions have come concerning the Horseless Horse project; below are clarifications based on learning and risk management: 4-H member does not own or lease a horse. Project intended to offer a 4-H member opportunity to learn about horses. 4-H member may participate in judging contests, quiz bowl, hippology and give presentations. 4-H member may volunteer to assist another SPRING SHOW INFORMATION Each year we receive lots of show fliers for all sorts of projects.
