This component is calculated by determining the cumulative won/loss records of the team s opponent (66.6 percent) and the cumulative won/loss records of the teams opponents opponents (33.3 percent). Losses - One point for each loss during the season. QW - The Quality Win component will reward to varying degrees teams that defeat opponents ranked in the top 10 of the weekly BCS standings. On Dec. 18, Alabama announced the hiring of Mike Price, who led Washington State to a 10-3 record and the Pac-10 championship in 2002. On Dec. 30, Rich Brooks was named the head coach at Kentucky. Brooks was the 1994 National Coach of the Year at the University of Oregon and a former head coach in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams (1995-96). Mike Price Price comes to Alabama after serving the previous 14 seasons as head coach at Washington State. During his tenure with the Cougars, Price compiled an 83-78 record, including back-toback 10-win seasons in Pullman. The Cougars played in two Rose Bowls and five bowls overall with Price at the helm. Prior to his tenure at WSU, Price served as head coach at Weber State University from 1981-88, where he compiled a 46-44 record in eight years. His 22-year head coaching record stands at 129-122 with three conference championships. Price also served as an assistant coach at Missouri (1978-80), Washington State (1969-70, 1974-77) and the University of Puget Sound (1971-73). Rich Brooks Brooks has 27 years of coaching experience on the collegiate level, including a groundbreaking 18-year term as head coach at Oregon, and is a 10-year NFL coaching veteran. His most recent coaching assignment was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator position for the Atlanta Falcons from 1997-2000. Brooks was head coach of the St. Louis Rams in 1995-96. The Rams had a 13-19 record in those two seasons, the team's best two-year stretch since 1989-90. The Rams won only nine games in the two years prior to his arrival and won just nine games in the two years following his departure. As head coach at the University of Oregon from 1977-94, Brooks won more games than any coach in school history. His final 18-year record was 91-109-4, including 39-32 and four bowls in the last six seasons.
