PGA IGI GOLF EDUCATION PROGRAMS The PGA IGI offers students multiple golf education programs, from its Gold Coast Campus in Australia. Programs offered by the PGA IGI each year are: Golf Management Program (incorporating 10459NAT Diploma of Golf Management) SIS30613 Certificate III in Sport Career Orientated Participation (Golf) These one year programs are delivered through face to face study, combining practical golf with academic studies. Students can choose to study either program over a one year period, or alternatively can choose to package the programs together over a two year study period. Throughout these golf education programs, students will learn the best practices and skills for use towards a career in the golf industry. The academic learning will cover areas of golf management, focusing on areas that managers come across in their day to day work within the industry, athlete preparation and development in the sport of golf. golf industry qualification The PGA IGI Golf Management Program is delivered at the PGA IGI Campus located on Australia s Gold Coast. This one year program incorporates the nationally recognised qualification 10459NAT Diploma of Golf Management. In delivering Australia s only Diploma of Golf Management qualification, the PGA IGI focuses on providing its graduates with job ready outcomes for a career in golf. The program focuses on the business, administration and management of the golf industry, combined with practical development. Students will learn the skills and knowledge used in the golf industry today within golf clubs, associations and golfing organisations. Throughout the PGA IGI Golf Management Program, students undertake golf development classes to gain a greater understanding of the sport of golf. The PGA IGI provides students with access to golf courses and practice facilities to assist in their golfing requirements. The golf development and access the PGA IGI provides its students compliments the academic study undertaken as part of the Golf Management Program. Access to Industry Professionals We focus on providing students with the best industry practices as part of their learning with PGA IGI. To compliment the academic learning of programs, industry guest speakers will present to students to provide further insight in to current industry trends. Our guest speakers are managers and industry professionals who work for a number of golf s industry bodies and golf clubs throughout Australia. Classes are supported by our PGA IGI Programs Manager. Interactive Learning Environment Learning is not confined just to the classroom. Students get involved with a number of interactive classes on and off the golf course. This involves hands on experience through running golf competitions, managing events, athlete preparation and site tours of back of house operations, golf facilities and more. The program is professionally delivered by a dedicated team, who are experienced and are the best at their respective fields. The lessons you learn and the skills you gain from the program will prepare you well for the future. In my first year with the PGA IGI golf program, my handicap dropped from 18 down to 8 thanks to my coaches. In the 3 years of study with PGA IGI I have the qualifications of a Diploma of Golf Management and Bachelor in Business, Hotel Management from Griffith University, which has allowed me to graduate with a job in the golf industry. Did you know? The Diploma of Golf Management is a one-of-a-kind qualification. You will only find this industry recognised qualification delivered by the PGA IGI. This has allowed me to upgrade my academic knowledge and accumulate valuable work experience in the golf industry in Australia. Golf Access The PGA IGI provides students with golf access across its golf education programs. Students will focus on the process of golf development, working with PGA Professionals on understanding the game of golf. This is combined with a number of IGI Competitions, practice sessions, year round golf access and gym conditioning classes that benefit you as a golfer. During study of the PGA IGI Golf Management Program, students undertake a number of hands on activities for the program, as they focus on specifics for golf such as: managing golf competitions fitness and conditioning for the sport of golf developing and implementing junior golf programs interpreting and applying the rules of golf to the golf course in competition how to manage a golfing operation Your home golf course is Sanctuary Cove The Palms Course. Students get year round golf access to the 18 hole golf course and practice facilities. IGI competitions are held at Sanctuary Cove. Managed by students throughout the year, these competitions can help prepare students for tournament play. May undertake golf coaching with access to PGA Professionals to get a greater understanding of the golf swing with our PGA IGI Golf Coaches. Welcome to the Gold Coast Welcome to the sunny Gold Coast, with beaches on your doorstep running from Main Beach to Coolangatta. The Gold Coast offers ideal year round weather for golf, allowing access to golf courses 365 days a year. A golfing mecca awaits you, with over 30 golf courses on your doorstep. The Golf Coast offers a relaxing lifestyle, with students from around the world enjoying the lifestyle on offer each year. It is one of Australia s fastest growing cities, and a premier tourist destination popular with International and Australians alike. IGI Classes and workshops on mentoring, golf preparation and time management to establish platforms for your future career in golf. Conditioning for golf classes to focus on students body, fitness for golf and preparation before stepping out on to the golf course. Gold Coast Campus The PGA IGI Gold Coast Campus is located at Sanctuary Cove Golf & Country Club. Located 20 minutes from the beaches of Surfers Paradise, Sanctuary Cove offers championship golf facilities to students all year round, with golf access to the practice range and the 18 hole Palms Course. Rated at number 48 in Australia s Top 100 golf course (Australian Golf Digest Magazine, 2016), students get to enjoy one of Australia s top golf courses as their golfing home for their one year of study. ACCOMMODATION Students have various accommodation options to choose from on the Gold Coast to best suit their needs. Across the Gold Coast, students can choose from private or shared accommodation, student accommodation nearby to Griffith University, or choose a Homestay option living with Australian families. Shared Accommodation Share house accommodation is quite common on the Gold Coast, with options of furnished and unfurnished rental options Cost - $160 per week and above (AUD) Student Accommodation There are student built accommodation options on campus at Griffith University, and nearby to the area. Students can choose private or shared accommodation in these student complex offerings, with furnished rooms available. They are 15 minutes travel by car from Sanctuary Cove Golf & Country Club Cost - $200 per week and above (AUD) Below are links to student accommodation complexes that student s have previously utilised: www.griffithuv.com.au www.unisquaregc.com www.nexusplace.com www.metrooncentral.com Homestay We are happy to put you in contact with various Homestay companies and families, who can help you to arrange Homestay accommodation whilst in Australia and experience living with Australian families. Selected Homestay s may provide services such as food and transport for students. Cost - $250 per week and above (AUD) Transport Students are responsible to provide their own transport to and from facilities. Students have the following options of transport on the Gold Coast: Buy a Car (recommended) - Students will require a driver s licence prior to arrival. Price range for cars from $5000 (used) to $15,000 AUD and over (new) Public Transport - Not always practical for students carrying golf clubs. Buses do run from Southport to nearby Sanctuary Cove Village every hour. Car Pool - Ride-share with other PGA IGI students. Cost of living Living costs on the Gold Coast are generally considered lower than capital cities in Australia, the UK and America. Australia offers a high standard of living for students. In addition to your student fees, you will generally need AUD $20,000 and over to meet your living expenses each year. This would include accommodation, food, transport and leisure. These costs are approximate as at 2017. These are minimal costs, and may differ for individuals. PGA IGI Packaged Programs International Students can choose to package together two qualifications with the PGA IGI, to study over a two year period at our Gold Coast Campus. Both programs involve full time study, combining areas of golf management, practical golf development, training, golf competitions and more. After your study with PGA IGI and successful completion of 10459NAT Diploma of Golf Management, students can access PGA IGI study pathways to Bachelor Degrees and the PGA of Australia (more details on the following page). Cert III in Sport Career Orientated Participation (Golf) PGA IGI Golf Management Program Nationally accredited based training SIS30613 Certificate III in Sport Career Orientated Participation is a nationally recognised qualification. The qualification 10459NAT Diploma of Golf Management has been accredited by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). STUDY PATHWAYS TO BACHELOR DEGREE PGA IGI Golf Management Program The PGA IGI Golf Management Program offers students a pathway to selected Bachelor Degrees with Universities and Colleges across Australia, gaining up to a one year credit off a three year Bachelor Degree (full time study). This unique pathway option allows students from around Australia and the world, the opportunity to gain two qualifications in their three years of full time study, offering you multiple qualifications to stand out from the crowd in your future careers. Students must meet entry requirements outlined by the University or College for the chosen Bachelor Degrees. Students wishing to undertake these pathways toward a Bachelor Degree must successfully complete the 10459NAT Diploma of Golf Management with the PGA IGI. 1 + 2 year study programs to study in Australia Gain two qualifications across 3 years of study GOLD COAST & BRISBANE Bachelor Degree (Year 2) SYDNEY Bachelor Degree (Year 3) STUDY PATHWAYS TO PGA OF AUSTRALIA The Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of Australia (RTO No. 22044) is the peak body for professional golf in Australia. The PGA of Australia delivers education to professional golfers, and golfers studying to become a Full Vocational Member of the PGA of Australia. Successful graduates of the Golf Management Program may be able to access PGA IGI Pathways into the PGA Trainee Program and the PGA Professional Year (PY) Program. These two programs are available for those who wish to turn their passion for golf into a career as a Full Vocational Member of the PGA of Australia. Studies in both programs are a combination of full time employment, on-the-job training, face to face training schools and online learning delivered over the calendar year. In addition, students will ensure they retain a professional playing standard through entry in regular PGA Trainee tournaments. All students wishing to enter either program, must meet the program entry requirements. Both programs involve accredited and non-accredited training. PGA Professional Year (PY) Program This one year program is available to students who have successfully completed 10459NAT Diploma of Golf Management with the PGA IGI, Bachelor Degree with PGA IGI Partner Institutions, the PGA IGI Ongoing Golf Skills Programs and meet outlined entry requirements. International Students must be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the program. This comprises of 17 Core and 3 Elective units of competency. Successful completion of this program requires you to demonstrate that you are competent in all units. To successfully graduate with the qualification 10459NAT Diploma of Golf Management, students must successfully complete 17 core and 2 elective units. Qualifications and Statement of Attainments will be issued in line with the current Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015.
