Our Mission: Our mission is to provide waterfront access, facilities and sailing instruction to all, regardless of socioeconomic background, skill level or physical ability. Our programs engage the lives of children and adults in unique learning experiences to build character and promote a healthy spirit, mind and body. Founded in 1999, Charleston Community Sailing has exponentially grown from having 6 donated 420 s, 10 sailors and five volunteers, to an organization that has taught over 7000 children, produced 10 scholastic sailing teams, a STEM Education outreach program, WOW {Women on the Water), partnerships with the SC Special Olympics Team and a full time director with staff working with an abundance of volunteers. In a city that is located on the coast, there are many people who have never walked along Charleston shores, nor taken advantage of the life lessons that sailing can teach. Our programs enable all participants to take ownership of one of South Carolina s greatest natural resources its waterfront, bays and oceans. Your support in our programs will enable us to continue to effectively serve our community.

Youth, ages 5 & up, come to our Waterfront spilling out of their cars, hopping off their bikes to get onto the water. Our facility provides access for 10 local school sailing teams and we partner with area clubs, organizations and local non profits to get MORE people out on the water. Some of our programs are fee based, however we do provide scholarships for children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to sail. These scholarships are awarded based on financial need and we hope to turn no child away. Donations are 100% tax deductible. Sailing into STEM This program is based off of US Sailing s STEM Education Series and the Reach Program utilizes sailing as an educational platform, challenging youth to embrace education, establish a love of learning and explore productive Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) based careers. Combining educators, sailing instructors, engineers, scientists with today s youth to provide them with a one of a kind authentic learning experience, giving students the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a cooperative work environment. Scholastic Sailing We provide facilities for 10 area schools which compete in SAISA. The teams practice end of AugustNovember, January through May, from 1-3 times a week. Throughout the year they participate in a number of regattas throughout the season traveling to FL, GA, NC, SC. South Carolina Special Olympics Sailing Team The South Carolina Special Olympics Sailing Team was launched in 2005 with help from James Island Yacht Club. Athletes are partnered up with a Unified Partner for competition in regional events throughout the southeastern United States and, soon nationwide. The athletes gain a sense of independence and self-confidence while sailing and are able to compete equally against able-bodied sailors. WoW {Women on the Water} This program is designed to give women of all ages and from all walks of life the opportunity to experience sailing in both a racing and non-racing capacity. Build your sailing knowledge and lets empower females to get on the water. *Please know that any contribution is greatly appreciated! Thank you for helping us get kids on the water!
