RULES FOR MATCH PLAY KNOCKOUT COMPETITIONS 1. All matches must be played by the stated date. 2. Failure to register a result will result in both players / pairs being disqualified. 3. If a date cannot be agreed upon then a member of the committee should be contacted before the stated completion date, so a decision can be made. 4. Three dates should be offered by both parties, these should include weekends. 5. It is the responsibility of both parties to make contact with one another. 6. In any dispute the committee s decision shall be final. 2
EARLY BIRD TEXAS SCRAMBLE 1.1. Eighteen-hole Medal. 1.2. Men will play from the white tees. 1.3. Ladies / Juniors with a 29 or greater handicap will play from the red tees. 2.1. Full handicap allowance. 2.2. One courtesy shot for Ladies / Juniors with a handicap of 29 or greater. 2.3. 10% of the sum of team members handicaps will be used in calculating a teams score. 3.1. Open to all members with a competition handicap. 3
CELEBRATION SALVER 1.1. 18-hole Greensomes Stableford. 1.2. Pairs can be both men, both ladies or mixed. 1.3. Men will play from the yellow tees. 1.4. Ladies / Juniors will play from the red tees. 2.1. Men maximum handicap 22. 2.2. Ladies maximum handicap 32 plus four courtesy shots. 2.3. Pairs handicap is calculated on the basis 60% of the lowest plus 40% of the highest. 3.1. Open to all members with a competition handicap. 4
THE CAPTAINS SHIELD 1.1. 18-hole Stableford. 1.2. Men will play from the white tees. 1.3. Ladies / Juniors with a 29 or greater handicap will play from the red tees. 2.1. Full handicap allowance. 2.2. Two courtesy shots for Ladies and Juniors. 3.1. Open to Captains past and present together with Vice-Captains, subject to having a competition handicap. 5
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 1.1. 36-hole Medal off the white tees. 1.2. Played as two 18-hole medal rounds. 1.3. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided by a sudden death play-off starting from the 1 st, 2 nd, 17 th and 18 th repeating until a result is reached. 2.1. Championship is played off scratch. 2.2. A separate trophy is awarded for the best nett score. 3.1. Open to all members with a competition handicap. 3.2. To qualify for entry players must have achieved at least one Order of Merit point between October and July. 3.3. Winners of the Club Championship and Nett Championship qualify for entry to the Gold Medal competition. 6
QUINCE CUP 1.1. 18-hole foursomes match play. 1.2. Men will play from the white tees. 1.3. Ladies will play from the red tees. 1.4. Played off the Men s stroke index. 1.5. Pairs are matched by means of a draw details of which will be posted before the event. 1.6. If a match is all square after 18 holes play will continue on a sudden death basis until a hole is won. 2.1. Maximum handicap men 22. 2.2. Maximum handicap Ladies 28 2.3. One courtesy shot for Ladies / Juniors. 2.4. Match handicaps are calculated by taking half of the full difference between the aggregate handicap of either side, subject to the maximum handicap allowance. 3.1. Open to all members with a competition handicap. 3.2. Winners will continue through knockout stages. 3.3. First round losers will enter the Quince Plate. 7
MIDDLETON MARATHON SPRINT 1.1. 36-hole Medal Competition off the white tees. 1.2. Played as two 18-hole medal rounds over a bank holiday weekend. 1.3. The two rounds must be played on different days and entrants can only play on two out of the three days. 1.4. Marathon winner will be decided by the best 36 holes score and the Sprint winner will decided by either the best front or back 9-holes score over the two rounds. 1.5. 36 holes must be completed. 2.1. Full handicap allowance. 3.1. Open to male members with a competition handicap. 3.2. Winner of each day qualifies for entry to the Gold Medal competition. This competition is a trophy event 8
MIXED WINTER PAIRS 1.1. 18-holes match play, Greensomes. 1.2. Men play from the yellow tees. 1.3. Ladies play from the red tees. 1.4. Played using the men s stroke index. 1.5. The competition starts on a round robin basis, 3 points for a win and 1 point for a half. 1.6. Winners and runners up from each group will qualify for the knockout stages. 1.7. Match pairings at the round robin stage are determined by a draw. 1.8. At the knockout stages the winner from Group A will play the runner up from Group B etc 2.1. Maximum handicap for men is 22. 2.2. Maximum handicap for ladies is 26. 2.3. Three courtesy shots will be added to the Ladies handicap. 2.4. The partners handicap is calculated by combining 60% of the lowest and 40% of the highest. 3.1. Open to all members with a competition handicap. This competition is a trophy event 9

Founders Trophy (Hey & Croft) winner. 3.9. Captains Decanter winner. 3.10. Club Captain. 3.11. Silver Cup holder. Winners from both divisions and daily winners if played over more than one day qualify. The Silver Cup winner qualifies for the following years Gold Medal 11
EASTER BANK HOLIDAY STABLEFORD 1.1. 18-hole Stableford. Can be played on each of the four days but only one round per day. 1.2. White tees Men & Juniors 28 handicap and below. 1.3. Red tees Ladies and Juniors 29 handicap and above. 2.1. Full handicap allowance. 2.2. Two divisions, 0-16 handicap and 17 and above handicap. 3.1. Open to all members with a competition handicap. 3.2. Male winners from both divisions each day qualify for entry to the Silver Cup competition. Ladies do NOT qualify for the Silver Cup. 12
FOUNDERS TROPHY (HEY & CROFT) 1.1. 18-hole Stableford off the white tees. 1.2. Ladies and juniors play from the red tees. 2.1. Full handicap allowance. 3.1. Open to all members with an active handicap. 3.2. Ladies / Juniors receive two additional shots. 3.3. The man with the best score will qualify for entry to the Silver Cup competition. 13
RABBITS CUP 1.1. 18-hole Medal off white tees. 2.1. Full handicap allowance. 3.1. Open to male members with a competition handicap. 3.2. Restricted to male members with handicaps in the range 19 28. 3.3. Winner qualifies for entry to the Gold Medal competition. 14
MIDDLETON CHALLENGE 1.1. 18-hole better ball stableford. 1.2. Men play off the white tees. 1.3. Ladies / Juniors with a 29 or over handicap play off the red tees. 1.4. Entrants play in pairs with the better nett score of the pairing to count for each hole. 2.1. Men maximum 28 2.2. Ladies maximum 34 2.3. Ladies receive 2 courtesy shots. 2.4. Players handicaps are taken as 90% of their actual handicap. 3.1. Open to all members with a competition handicap. 3.2. Pairings can be all men, all ladies or mixed. 15
THOMPSON TROPHY 1.1. 18-hole Bogey / Par. 1.2. The competition is played from the white tees. 1.3. Players compete against the nett par for each hole (par of the hole adjusted to take account of the individual players handicap). 1.4. A win is recorded if a player holes out in less strokes than the nett par for the hole. 1.5. If a player holes out in a number of strokes equal to his nett par for the hole zero is recorded. 1.6. If more strokes than the nett par for a hole are taken then a loss is recorded. 1.7. The aggregate of wins and losses is taken to give a final score of holes up or down to bogey or par. 2.1. Full handicap allowance. 3.1. Open to all male members with a competition handicap. 3.2. The winner qualifies for the Gold Medal competition. 3.3. This is a non-qualifying competition for handicap purposes. 16
MENS WINTER PAIRS 1.1. 18-hole Greensomes match play. 1.2. The competition starts on a round robin basis, 2 points for a win and 1 point for a half. 1.3. Match pairings at the round robin stage are determined by a draw. 1.4. Winners and runners-up from each group at the round robin stage will play in the knockout stage. The winner from one group will play the runner-up from another group etc 2.1. Maximum handicap is 22. 2.2. SCRATCH KNOCKOUT MEDAL 1.1. 18-holes single match play off the white tees. 1.2. If a match is all square after 18 holes the match will continue on a sudden death basis until a hole is won. 2.1. Scratch for all players. 3. 4. QUALIFIERS 4.1. Open to all male members with a competition handicap. 4.2. The winner qualifies for entry to the Gold Medal competition. 18
BREAKAWAY PAIRS 1.1. 18-hole Better Ball Stableford. 1.2. Played from the white tees. 2.1. 90% of handicap allowance. 3.1. Open to all male members with a competition handicap. 19
BEN WATSON 1.1. 18-hole single match play. 1.2. Played from the white tees. 1.3. If the match is all square after 18-holes the match will continue on a sudden death basis until a hole is won. 2.1. Maximum handicap allowance is 20. 2.2. Individual matches are played using the full difference in handicaps, subject to the maximum handicap allowance. 3.1. Open to all male members with a competition handicap. 3.2. First round losers gain entry to the Ben Watson Plate competition. 3.3. The winner qualifies for the Gold Medal competition. This competition is a trophy even. 20
WALTZ STABLEFORD 1.1. 18-hole stableford. 1.2. Played by teams of three. 1.3. At the first hole only one score will count, at the second hole two scores to count and at the third hole all three scores to count. For the subsequent holes the scoring pattern reverts to that of the first three holes. 1.4. Men will play from the white tees if these are available otherwise play will be from the yellow tees. 1.5. Ladies / Juniors with a 29 or over handicap will play form the red tees and receive either 2 of 4 courtesy shots depending upon which tees the men are playing from. 2.1. Full handicap allowance. 3.1. Open to all members with a competition handicap. 21
ORDER OF MERIT 1. This competition recognises a high standard of competitive performance over the golfing season. 2. Points are awarded for top ten positions in all monthly medal and stableford competitions for both divisions. 3. There are also bonus points awarded for Marathon top 10 combined as one division. Battle of Britain combined as one division. Club Championship rounds 1 & 2 nett as one division. 4. The overall winner will be the golfer with the highest aggregate points over the season. 5. In the event of a tie on completion of the competition, the winner will be decided as follows - Best 6 scores, best 5 scores etc. 6. Points awarded 10 points for 1 st place. 9 points for 2 nd. 8 points for 3 rd down to 1 point for 10 th place. The winner qualifies for entry to the Gold Medal competition. 22
BANK HOLIDAY STABLEFORD 1.1. 18-hole Stableford. 1.2. Men and Juniors with a handicap of 28 and below Play from the white tees. 1.3. Men and juniors play from the yellow tees in winter competitions. 1.4. Ladies play from the red tees. 2.1. Full handicap allowance. 3.1. Open to all members with a competition handicap. 3.2. The winners from each day in both divisions will qualify for entry to the Silver Cup competition (Ladies do not qualify for the Silver cup). 3.3. The two divisions are Division 1 - players with a handicap of 16 and below. Division 2 - players with a handicap of 17 and over. 23
BATTLE OF BRITAIN TROPHY 1.1. 18-hole Stableford played off the white tees. 2.1. Full handicap allowance. 3.1. Open to all male members with a handicap allowance. The winner qualifies for entry to the Silver Cup competition. 24
MEN S FOURSOMES 1.1. 18-hole foursomes match play off the white tees. 1.2. If a match is all square after 18-holes, then it continues on a sudden death basis until a hole is won. 2.1. Maximum handicap is 18. 2.2. Match handicaps are calculated by taking half of the full difference between the aggregate handicap of either side, subject to the maximum handicap allowance. 3.1. Open to all male members with a competition handicap. 3.2. Winners continue through knockout stages. 3.3. First round losers will qualify to pay in the Foursomes Plate. 25
