Update 3 A.L.R. Message 3 Post 91 Victory III Mission This is a Post-wide mission that will require volunteers from all four entities within Post 91 to insure it s success. Plenty of volunteers are still needed, so please see your entity leader today to see how you can help to make this mission a huge success On November 17, Post 91 and show our community members will be preparing what Post 91 is all about. and serving meals for approximately 200 residents There is more to life than of the Victory III Affordable warming a bar stool it s housing project for about giving back to those Veterans in Phoenix. who served, so don t miss this opportunity to give a little back to those who have served for us. How do I turn into the parking lot today? Which way will I need to exit when I leave tonight? Is the intersection open? Do I stop here? No left turn? No right turn? We all have suffered long enough! The construction at Alma School and Ray Road has finally been completed! The City of Chandler along with the Chandler Chamber of Commerce will be holding an End of Construction Celebration on Sunday November 4 th from Noon 4:00pm in the parking lot of our center. Look for Post 91 to offer our own End of Construction specials on that Sunday as well. Stay tuned to Quick Announcements for additional information. We all have a reason to celebrate!!!

They That is the way that I want Post 91 to be. Helping and honoring Veterans, and being united and strong for be cooking on November 17th. Doesn t seem like we should be going into the Holiday Season already!!!! Where has this year gone. We cannot forget our Veterans and the Homeless during this busy time. The American Legion Riders had a very successful event on September 22nd. Melynda Smith put a basket together of almost all donated new donated items for the Riders to raffle off. They brought in over $500.00 on the basket Thank you Melynda!!!! Card Signing party on November 3rd from 6 to 8 p.m. If you have any Christmas Cards to donate please bring them to the club. While you are at the Post please ask the bartender for some Christmas cards to sign. Also, if you would like to do the cards at home and put a little note on the inside, the Auxiliary will make sure your cards are sent off with the rest of the cards. Please have them at the Post no later than November 11th. CVS pharmacy will be at ahead of time it will give us a good idea on how many will be getting the shots and will make the process go smoother and faster. Make a copy of the front and back of your insurance/medicare card and submit it with the form. The Pharmacy will check ahead of time to see if your insurance will cover the shot. If you do not have insurance, the Post will pick up the cost of the flu shot. The Auxiliary is teaming up with the S.A.L. to serve veterans a nice meal on We are beginning our signing of Christmas Cards for Military Mail Call. We the Post on November 11th to give flu shots. Membership cards are waiting for you - Squadron 91 is currently at 45% of goal, which is great. I think we can show Detachment and the other Squadrons in District 12 that we can do much better. Renew your membership now and help us achieve our goal (Scooter Bob is watching our numbers). Don t forget you still have time to renew and receive your Early Bird Stamp. Squadron 91 Adopting Two Family s In our October meeting, the membership approved spending up to $750 to adopt two families the process of trying to identify two families in Chandler that could use our help. Gary will need additional volunteers to help make this project a success. Let s show our community that Squadron 91 cares and help provide a Merry Christmas to two deserving families. $500 Approved for Child Welfare Foundation (CWF) - Membership also approved a $500 donation to the Child Welfare Foundation. The check from Squadron 91 will be presented during the Fall Conference in Tucson this month. This is Wednesday November 21st starting at 6:00pm at the Post. Please try to make these meetings. We need your help and would like to hear from you. It s hard to believe that the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons are fast approaching. But they are. If you feel you can help and volunteer some of your time to help support any local charities I encourage you to do so. This is the time of year when volunteering is needed most. President Dave Andersen president@azlegion91alr.org THWR (That s How We Roll) Welcome New & Transferring A.L.R. Members: No new members The Post 91 ALR wants to thank everyone that helped with our Quarterly Bike Night that was held on September 22. We raised a great deal of money that will help towards some excellent causes helping other Veterans. Thanks to everyone that participated and to JD, Tim, and the Bar crew that helped keep everyone happy! Meylinda Smith made a basket for our raffle that raised over $636, most of it was donations that she received, a big thanks to Meylinda. run to San Diego and the Balboa Hospital. This was a very memorable event with us meeting our Wounded Heroes, sharing time and Pizza with them. Although many of these Soldiers were severely wounded and amputees, they were positive, outgoing and very happy to have us there visiting. Many of them came out to see the Bikes that were lined up on the curb next to the hospital. Eric McGregory arranged the ride and handed them a Check for over $8400 that will go towards their the Raffle Bike, a 2013 Heritage Softail to many establishments around the Chandler area selling tickets. The Raffle is coming up on December 8th at Chester s Harley Davidson. First Prize is either the Motorcycle or $10,000 Cash. 2nd and 3rd Prizes are $1000 Cash. Please see the Bar for a ticket or any one of the riders, the tickets are going fast. The proceeds after paying for the Prizes helps the ALR and the Post donate to many of the Charitable causes. Post 91 members participated in the AZ Riders for Wounded Heroes Physical Therapy Room and Club room. The ALR has been taking The ALR just in the Last 6 Months has paid out over (continued on page4)

4 AMERICAN LEGION POST 91 NOVEMBER 2012 NEWSLETTER Club News Shuffleboard Tournaments have begun at Post 91! - There was a great turnout for the first tournament that took place on Sunday October 21 st. These tournaments will continue each Sunday starting at 2:00pm sharp. $5.00 buy-in, blind draw and double elimination. Arrive early to sign up and have some fun! Thanks to our friends from the Chandler Elks for helping to coordinate these tournaments. Live Music at the Post - Did you enjoy the live music that we had each Saturday evening during the month of October? We ve received a lot of great feed back and we are looking to continue having live music at least once a month on a Saturday night at Post 91 starting in November in combination with bringing back the monthly birthday celebrations. Don t miss another game - Make Post 91 your NFL Game Day Headquarters. The Post currently opens at 10:00am on Sunday s. Darcey has been known to come up with some great whistle blower specials along with the Bucket of A.L.R. (continued from pg 3) Beer specials that run all day Sunday. We have attended many different events over the last several weeks including the State ALR meeting at Vail Post 109 Saturday October 13th. There was a lot of information shared at this meeting and guest speakers. Thanks to Post 109 for putting on the event and the warm welcome. On October 6th the District 12 Riders held a Poker Run benefiting Corporal Brad Ivanchan, a Wounded Soldier from Glendale. Over $1625 was raised and donated to he and his family to assist with his an American Hero. The Western U.S. Region American Legion Riders will be holding a Western Romp in Pocatello Idaho in July. It is expected to have a huge turn out of Riders from the Western US as well as other regions. Many of us are already planning to attend the event. Stay tuned for more information as it is sent out. Please bring your favorite veteran to the post for a Thank you meal. We are also in need of goodies for the Veterans at the V.A. home. Fall Conference is November 16-18, 2012 in Tucson. If you are planning to attend, pre-registration is $10.00 at the door registration is $12.00. If you want to pre-register, call me at 480-497-4736. Each Unit is asked to bring toiletries for the homeless male and female veterans. Please bring you donations to the Post for this project. Our highlighted program of the month is Field Service. Field Service is defined as any service provided to a veterans burial or gravesite upkeep. We are hoping to sponsor a Field Service orientation in November. We will send an announcement as soon as we have a date. We will be decorating the Post for Christmas on Saturday December 1, 2012. If you have any Christmas Decorations you would like to donate please bring them to the Post. We still have plenty of Support our Troops red shirts. To the family and friends of Lenny Mederious, Post 35, Auxiliary would like to send out to Gina Soutiere wishes for a speedy recovery from her recent foot surgery and prayers to her daughter who has recently been bed sore infection, our prayers are with you. With deepest sympathy to hear of the passing of Lenny Mederious, Post 35. Veterans home.
