October turned out to be with warm days, cool nights and no wind. What more could a flyer want? The month started with a work party loading Gary Swigart s truck with 760 pounds of junk and then taking it to the local dump. Thanks Gary and also, a big thanks to Gary MacCauley, Val Goff, and Bill King. We even had three students join the work party Cole, Christian, and Forest, thanks guy s. Rich Thomas, our Chief Flight Instructor, really worked hard on the field this month, dragging and rolling it three times. Only problem now is, it is so smooth that the planes don t want to stop on landing. What a nice problem to have. The maintenance crew from ERAU dug a two foot deep trench the entire length of the field to facilitate water run off. Fantastic job and we sincerely thank you. Speaking of digging, I forgot to tell you that Rich also dug a trench along the west end of the field for water run off. WOW, what a team. Our second Come Fly with Us was held on Oct 8 th and although it was a little cool, we had eleven student, and 21 flights. It was also good to see some students returning for a second try. Our next student day will be on Saturday, November 12, so come on out and help welcome and teach. It s a lot of fun. Thanks to Walter Wilken, for helping me with the ERAU Homecoming celebration on Saturday, where we helped the School R/C club with their table display of R/C planes. What fun, and did I say great lunch? With November just around the corner, don t wait to fly, come on out now. Hope you all had a Happy Halloween. See you at the Field; FROM THE MAIN PROP NUT. BY Jack Hardy, PRESIDENT NEXT MEETING will be Tuesday November 1, 2011 Meetings start at 7:00 PM in room 101, Building 21 (Robertson Aviation Safety Center) On the Embry-Riddle campus, 3700 Willow Creek Road. Visitors are welcome! See you there! Page 1
From the Safety Officers Tom Gatchell and ARF the wonder dog. I received this request from the Safety Officer in place of this month s column. So, here it is. The Editor. Probably no column this month. Post the picture of the red tree instead. Should be home by weekend, hopefully. This "fun" crap is too hard! (and cost a bunch too). Dog is perpetually depressed, no doubt counseling is in order. Other than that, saw a lot of pretty crap and my 99 year old aunt and twin sister of my Mom. Somewhere in the tiny sliver of the Oklahoma panhandle. 1 Garmin Nuvi 250 - CHEAP! (disregard blacktop skid marks, works "perfectly"). Camper Tom No, YOU run and jump off the roof!
