Eileen Poquette VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH October s Volunteer of the Month is Dale Spriet. Dale is one of our bartenders, but does so much more around the lodge. Dale and his crew do our Family Pizza Parties, the third Sunday of the month, October thru March. He also helps out in the kitchen on Friday nights, and on Thursday Burger Night. When there is a banner to be hung, or a light to be changed, Dale is the first one to grab a ladder. He is a member of the Moose Legion, and is a new member of the 25 Club, for being active in promoting membership. Please let Dale know you appreciate his efforts by saying Thank you, for all you do. Thank you Dale for all you do to help our Lodge. It is the first increase in many years, and comes as a result of rising costs at Mooseheart. We hope that with our added support Mooseheart and Moosehaven will always be there for those in need. We thank you for your understanding and continued faith in our endeavors. Fraternally, LOOM Board of Officers CONGRATULATIONS! Congratulations to Mike Clesen, for winning our summer membership campaign. Mikes s name was drawn at our Shining Star Celebration, on September 6 th. Everyone who signed up a new or former member during June, July, or August had their name put in the drawing. Mike won a $100.00 gas card. Great Job by all. Let s keep up the good work. Jim Heyob, Membership Chairman FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR In the Fox Valley there are hundreds of restaurants, and bars to choose from. Why should you prefer to spend your hard earned money at the local Moose Lodge? Well, next time you are out, but not at the Moose, ask the manager or bartender how much of their profits help children or seniors in need, help buy police dogs, or help out our local shelters. Moose Members are the greatest! Thanks for your support. Fraternally, Pete Baldino

GOVERNOR S CORNER How great it was to see everyone who came out to the Shining Star Party, on September 6 th. Great Job!!! on the meal by Pete and Dick, along with help from Duane, Dave, Helen, Ann, Donna, Cody, Shay, Mary, and others who helped with clean-up afterwards. We honored the Ponch and Tammy Enriquez Family, as the Illinois Shining Star Family of the Year! With the donations from the nine o clock ceremony, we were able to send almost $400.00 to Moose Charities, for the Endowment Fund. TriCoustic did an outstanding job providing entertainment. What a busy September we had. The day after the Shining Star Party, we hosted the 25 students of the Senior Class at Mooseheart High School, for the annual District 2 Ring Fund Luncheon. These outstanding young people were presented with their class rings, and spoke of their plans for life after graduation. The Lodge provided pizza, beef sandwiches, and beverages for lunch, and Mike Fontana, of Be A Star Tonight Entertainment, provided music and karaoke for the Seniors afterwards. Thanks Mike. Due to the weekend of rain we had on September 13 th and 14 th, we had to reschedule the Lodge Golf Outing to October 4 th.. If you are not signed up, contact Danny Gray to see if there are any openings. The WOTM held a pet fair, Saturday, September 20 th to support H.E.L.P. This was a new Community Service/Family Activities project this year. Congratulations to Senior Regent, Dani Frane for doing a great job!!! We were honored to have our new Supreme Governor, Jim Gallagher, stop by as a guest that afternoon. Thank you to The Fun Bunch for helping with the games, and everyone who volunteered their time for this cause. With the calendar turning to October, we are almost at the halfway point of the Moose Year. Where does the time go? Soon we should start to see some action on the addition to the Lodge. What a welcome those new handicap, accessible restrooms and storage area will be! Many activities are planned for this month, including some new ones I am excited about. Starting Friday, October 3 rd, The Fun Bunch will have a Friday Night at the movies, on the first Friday night of every month. We are waiving the 10pm rule for these nights, for the children to be in the Lodge. After dinner, we will bring the big screen TV out, and show a family oriented movie. Some nights, it may be a comedy, some nights it may be a creature feature movie, the Lodge will provide the popcorn, soda and snacks for the kids, so Mom and Dad can enjoy the entertainment in the Social Quarters. Pizza Party Sunday will also be returning on October 19 th at the Bears/Nascar Tailgate Party. This is a great time to bring the family out for some of the best pizza in town. The Kid s Halloween Party will be held on Sunday, October 26 from 1:00 to 4:00. We will have a costume contest, games, treats and snacks for all the kids. Mike Fontana will provide music and karaoke. God Bless those that defend our freedom at home and abroad. God Bless One and All. Fraternally, Dave Kunstman THE FUN BUNCH NEWS Our Food Drive held July thru August was a big success, we collected enough to not only help the Northern Illinois Food Bank, but Lazarus House and the Salvation Army as well. We also collected $428.00 dollars to present to the Food Bank, to purchase food. Thanks to everyone who contributed to our Drive. This month, one of our projects is Friday Night at the Movies, October 4 th at 9:30. The Board of Officer s has waived the 10:00 curfew, so we can watch movies, enjoy popcorn, snacks and beverages in the hall, while the adults enjoy the entertainment in the Social Quarters. We are hoping that we have a good turn out, so that we can have it monthly or even bi-monthly. We are also having a Kid s Halloween Party, Sunday, October 26 th from 1:00-4:00, with food, prizes, games and karaoke. Come out and get a head start on your Halloween candy. Bring the whole family and a snack to share. Scott Gramme GIMME FIVE Five years from now, the men and women of the Moose may face a tough choice: whether to continue to operate Mooseheart Child City and Moosehaven Retirement Community, or shut one of these facilities down. Every year the budgets to run these facilities is $32 million dollars, every year these costs are increasing. Fortunately there is a solution, Gimme Five. Every day for five years, you set aside five cents in the morning, and five cents in the evening for the kids at Mooseheart and the seniors of Moosehaven. This is just 10 cents a day, 70 cents a week or $36.50 a year. Over five-years each participant s contribution would be $182.50. If the entire Moose Membership participates in the Gimme Five program over the next five years, enough money would be raised so that the returns on the investment of those funds could sustain operations of Mooseheart and Moosehaven indefinitely. Contributing is easy, you can send a check to Moose International. Put a check in an envelope marked Gimme Five, and give it to the bartender, and we will send it in. Go online to the Moose International Web Site and use a credit or debit card, or you can put your contribution in the Gimme Five jug, behind the bar. Any way you choose to contribute, let s all try to make Gimme Five a success, to make sure that Mooseheart and Moosehaven are always there for those in need. We have also installed environmentally friendly soap dispensers for our dishwasher, in the kitchen. We are going to try and take our efforts a step further, by sending the monthly newsletter via: e--mail. The benefits to our members would be: you would get your newsletter faster, you would know if there were any changes made to the calendars, and you would continue to receive your newsletter without interruption, if you move.
